Hi, I am looking for purchase a speaker systems for under $1000. So far, here are some I was looking at:

- Energy 5.1 Take Classic Home Theater System (Set of Six, Black)

- Klipsch HD 1000 Compact 5.1 Home Theater System

- Mirage MX 5.1 Channel Miniature High-Performance Speaker System, Set of 6, Black

Anyone else know of better speaker systems?

Thanks!!

How big is your room? I don't own any HSU Researchd products but its Ventriloquist system is suposed to be excellent. Your other choices look good too.

You mention your budget of 1000 dollars, then list three systems that are priced around 500. So the question is, are you willing to spend 1000 dollars. If so, you can get a 5 speaker set up from the Polk Monitor series (New Egg), Infinity Primus (Amazon) and other? that will be better than smaller satelitte systems and likely leave you enough for a pretty good sub.

YES!

The Jamo S606HCS3 is way way better; it costs $349 at Amazon, which is an incredibly good deal on a system that could still be a good deal at twice the price.

Add the Rythmic FV12 subwoofer for $499, and you have a system that is pretty darn good, which you certainly can't say about those 3 mediocre mini-systems.

The subwoofers that come with those mini-systems are not really subwoofers at all; they are a bad sad joke!

Wow, the FV12 subwoofer sounds really good.

I was also looking at the Definitive Technology Supercube SC6000. Amazon is selling it for around $700. The SC6000 seems to have a lot more power, like 1500 Watt of destruction! HA HA HA

My room size is 24' x 18'. The ceiling is about 12 feet high.

Thanks for some great advice everyone!

SuperCube subs are over priced unless you are getting them about half off retail.

The FV12 has a 12" driver; the SC6000 a 9"--the Rythmik should eat if for lunch in terms of SPL output.

I guess I don't know much about subwoofers. I thought if the subwoofer got more watt, it should be more powerful. In your case, you are telling me the larger the driver, the more powerful.

The FV12 only got 300 watt. While the SC6000 got 1500 watt. How can a 300 watt subwoofer be more powerful than a 1500 watt sub?
It's just a guess, but

- Def Tech over states all their specs; good guess that's peak wattage; the FV12 is RMS, not peak rating.
- size of enclosure affects output; the 6000 is a midget compared to the FV12.
- and also size of the driver

One more thing, if you want more output than the FV12 for around what the SC costs, look at the SVS PB12-NSD and Outlaw Audio LFM-1 EX. Here are two reviews:

Possibly and very likely overrated amp specs. Regardless I HIGHLY doubt you'd even be able to reach 1500 watts. 1) that would be very loud. 2) You'd need a 20a outlet

And like Cel said, you have a 12 inch sub vs a 9 inch . The 12 inch will be able to play louder and deeper.

I would balance my budget - and make sure to have good speakers.
Forget about the Definitive hitting 14hz - not going to happen.

A while back, someone on AVS was explaining that 300 watt sub amps that have 1000 watt peak power accomplish that by storing up power in the capacitors. It's the 300 watts that you need the amperage for.

fully agree!

That s606hcs3 deal for $350 at vanns or amazon is an amazing price.
98 reviews with a 4.9 score out of a 5.0.

Name another audio product with that high of a review score with that many reviewers? I don't need speakers and I'm even considering buying a set!

http://www.vanns.com/shop/servlet/it..._c=site_search

Pick the sub of your choice for $800.

Another good choice would be the Jamo set with a Epik Empire sub, or a HSU VTF-3-MK4. Heck even a couple of the Klipsch RW-12D subs for $300-$350 a piece on sale would go well with the Jamo set if you wanted two subs to go with your speaker setup and still needed to keep the package price under $1K.

I can't see how you'd pick much else with that current sale?

I am leaning towards the SVS PB12-NSD. The Outlaw just looks like a wooden box to me. I am sure it sounds terrific.

Which is a better brand, SVS or Rythmik Audio?

Put a HSU VTF-15H (350 watt amp rating - 15" subwoofer)
http://www.hsuresearch.com/products/vtf-15h.html

vs.

the SC6000 (1500 watt amp rating - 9" subwoofer)
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B005XJCXMQ/...hvptwo=&hvqmt=

and see which one digs deeper and goes louder?

Actually, I have an EX. It looks like a GIANT black box end table, although not wood (lol). Someone has a picture of one posted in its natural habitat here.

For an HT system or mixed HT/music usage, get the SVS. If you were primarily interesting in musical critical listening, then the Rythmik would have the edge.

If you are listening to 2 channel music then I reccomend the Magnepan MMG at $600 a pair.

He's looking for a 5.1 and you need to tell him about the placement issues of a Magnepan.

Directly from their websites. They are Internet direct manufacturers (thus, the excellent value for their price).

Thanks!

I have decided to spend a little more on the subwoofer ($1000 - $1400). I have created a subwoofer thread under Subwoofer section. Since I am focusing on Subwoofers, I want to go to the subwoofer section of the forum.

Please see me there to talk about subwoofers. Thanks!
