Official Sony HX850 Owner's Thread (46HX850, 55HX850) - Page 44

It's possible they stopped manufacturing them so they can start onto 2013 models.
They may very well have plenty warehoused. The stock only needs to last them a few months.

A lot of retailers still show these as available, including Best Buy, so I don't see the issue.

Maybe HH Gregg just didn't get any more. They have a pattern of weird problems with manufacturers and lying about the status of models.

You didnt read my earlier posts. Many websites including best buy show it as available but when you attempt to checkout it tells u otherwise. Try it and ull see what im talking about. This has happened on multiple sites.

hey, why don't you go to the sony web site and buy the extended warranty directly from them.
the 5 year extended was only $249.

I went to the Best Buy site last week. When I plug in my zip code for delivery it says it’s unavailable. When I click store pick up for every Best Buy in the tri-state area it says it’s unavailable.

It’s the same story at Sears, so I guess Sony has been busy producing the new sets and they are done with the 850. At this point I guess I'll just wait until the comparable 2013 set comes out.

Can u do that with a floor model? If so, how soon after u buy it?
I would try it. if not maybe you could still get it extended where you buy it.
but if they say you have the new factory warranty I would think you still can get it at sony.

what I'm trying to say is, "if hhgregg says you get a 1 year factory warranty with it."
you should be able to get it extended from Sony.

go to the sony web site and put in yesterdays date and see what it says......
that was the linked posting

Sony Warranty Extension

Finally got an email from Adorama saying it was backordered. It wasn't backordered when I ordered it. mad.gif Anyway I found one new at Best Buy one state over. Luckily it was in my hometown, so I bought it, and I'm having my parents drive it up here.

Hello, wondering if the AVSforums can help out. Got a 40" HX850 recently and having a bit of an ish - it's somewhat has a blue cast out of the box. Other than that I'm happy with the quality of the picture, and have tried calibrating it but can't quite lose the fact that it renders greys a light purplish colour, accentuating blue over everything else. Whites seem clear though. The effect is generally pretty slight but wondering if I should get a replacement? It has flashlighting a the bottom left/right but you can barely see it (even trying really hard) during normal use thanks to the LED dimming - certainly outside of the blue cast the best picture I've seen on LED...

The other thing is Motionflow on Netflix - HOW THE HELL DO YOU TURN IT OFF???? :P

Thanks in advance!

Danediz ,FYI i talked to a sales rep at Crutchfield a couple of days ago when i was looking to buy the 55" HX850. He said they removed it for sale from their site but they have 2 available for sale over the phone. I ended up buying mine from hhgregg in northeast Ohio. They did not have this in the store but their warehouse had 39 available. I ordered it on Thursday and picked it up yesterday. So far i am very pleased with the set. It has no dead or stuck pixels, no banding, flash-lighting or DSE. I guess i lucked out and got a great set the first time. It has a September build date.

I wonder if they can ship it here? Do you mind giving me the northeast ohios number??

Are the TVs produced in China or in Japan? There was an earthquake a few months ago in Japan, maybe they have production issues because of that.
And yes, here in Switzerland it's the same issue with it being out of stock frown.gif One Sony sales told me the next delivery should arrive middle of January and the next after end of February :/

I sent you a PM.

I would like to buy this TV but was planning to wait until March or April. Is there any way to confirm whether it is out of production or this is just a temporary supply glitch?
So far they did not officially say it's out of production, but I think they do have some production problems or are simply overwhelmed with the demand.
After posting I called Sony and the saleperson I talked to said it was likely out of production because she is not seeing an expected availability date.
Just to clear up an earlier question I put out, thanks to a user on another forum, Motionflow for internet video is disabled by going into Youtube, playing a vid their, pressing Options>Picture and disabling within that app. It stopped the problem I had and may help another user, so posting here.

Not in North America. My both of the HX850 I had in hands where produced in october 2012 and were manufactured in Mexico.

This is probably the reason I'm having so much issues with flashlighting. My theory on Flashlighting is that the assembly of the TV isn't being done properly. The bottom of the panel is squeezed too much by putting the screws too tight on the corners.

When sony had everything assemble in Japan, we didn't have that kind of quality issue.

that sounds real good for anybody wanting to purchase a floor model somewhere.
it is a lot less expensive than the extended warranty insurance many stores sell. biggrin.gif

Hello. I just bought the 55HX850 tv today. I'm looking through the picture settings and I don't see the Cinema 1 and 2 Options anywhere. I just have Vivid, Custom and Standard. Were the Cinema options removed in an update or something?

Make sure you switch scene first to "Cinema". You can access scene by press option on your remote. "Scene select" is listed toward the middle/end of the list.

Once you switched your scene to Cinema, go back into pictude adjustement and you'll see that you have option of cinema 2 and cinema 2.

Coming from a plasma I notice the picture washes out quite quickly from a fairly narrow angle on this set...if I move just a few feet from dead center I get colour/brightness changes on the corners of the set.

One thing that REALLY bugged me about this set (although I may just be doing something wrong)...I set up everything for my HDMI 1 input and liked how everything looked...went to watch a Blu Ray on HDMI 4 and I had to set up everything for that input as well...I tried to use the "common settings" thing from HDMI 1 but it wouldn't take on HDMI 4...HDMI 4 would override HDMI 1 when I tried it in there though??? Why would it work using HDMI 4's settings for 1 but not 1 for 4....if that makes any sense???

For the view angle, it's the limitation of the technology. If it makes you feel any better (or worst), the panel used on that TV is one of the "good" non IPS panel I've personally seen. I've seen much worst view angle from other PVA panels. You could get better view angle from an IPS panel (mostly on LG TV) but you will lose some of those inky blacks.

As for your other question, I prefer to have seperate settings on all my input as I set them differently considering if I'm playing video games, watching a bluray or cable.
