Perhaps having the Reality Creation on is actually making the crosstalk look more pronounced.

The T.V. performs great in anything else thrown at it -- blu-ray 2D, H.D. broadcasts, even non H.D. stations and standard DVD's look good as well.

I have not re-tried Hugo yet since everything thinks that film has some serious cross-talk.

I appreciate any feedback you might have or any suggestions.

I don't think the 3D on yours is faulty, too, even with Hugo; and as I'm discovering, perhaps mine isn't either (though the ghosting on the characters was pretty heavy toward the end of the movie). Depending on the television and the glasses, Hugo will eat them alive. The HX850 is apparently prey and not predator for that movie. It can handle other 3D movies fine, but in general it's doesn't appear to be the top 3D performer in its class.

I am considering trading up to the F8000, though. Its latest review compared it to the HX850 and gave the win to Samsung, and I do like the Samsung's feature set. I would just have to get a refund on the "premium service plan" that I got with the Sony in order to do that. I don't think it would be a loss. "Speak to a live person in America, 24/7! We'll help you with anything!" I actually gave them a call and got routed through several different automated machines before it hung up on me. "Premium" my butt!

Hi Folks,

I was trying to figure out how to play Sirius Satellite Radio on my HX850 but I can't seem to figure this out. I've tried searching around but I'm not coming up with anything. If there is no way to play this directly through the TV, I'm thinking that I could probably stream from my Galaxy pad. Can someone please point me in the right direction?

BTW, I can't use my A/V receiver as I do not have internet connected to it.

Thanks.

Hey all,

I'm experience audio lag when using my xtreamer media player (connected via HDMI).

I've got another tv which is a Sony KDL46W4500 and there is no lag when using the same media player and HDMI cable...are there any settings which I could toggle? or do you guys have any suggestions in general?

It's a straight connection via HDMI between the media player & tv, nothing else in-between e.g. receiver etc.

I have had the KDL46HX850 for a few months and love it. I am still playing around with the settings to get the best picture possible. Does the type of HDMI cord matter to produce the best picture. I read that the HDMI cords that are a few bucks are just as good as the ones that can run 50 plus dollars. Any HDMI cords that can be suggested?

Read this:

Then buy off of Amazon.

You can thank me later.

For those in and around Toronto, GG Electronics on Kingston Road in Scarborough has a skidful of HX850`s. They are labeled as ``R1`` which means damage to the box only. I picked one up and it is working great. It was manufactured in Mexico in October so it does a very tiny amount of flashlighting in the bottom leftt corner but with the right tweaks and time it is getting better.

For those that live by a Sony outlet you can now pick up a BRAND NEW Sony 55 850hx for 1599.00. Used my tax refund and purchased one yesterday and loving it. I also own a 950 and I do not really notice any big picture difference (that stands out) as I have calibrated both sets with the same settings. In certain images the 950 seems a bit brighter which might account for the full array but it isn't that far apart in over all picture quality when compared to the 850.

Have the 850 set in the bedroom and all is well.

According to the site the Miami store is not an outlet and shows the price to be $2000 on the website. Are you certain you didn't get an open return or something?

I am unable to get my 55HX850 to show Amazon videos in High Definition. My other devices are able to get Amazon videos in HD. Is anyone able to watch Amazon videos in HD? If so is there something I need to do to enable this. I have a 30MB internet connection.

Thanks,
Jim

I have watched Amazon HD videos on my HX850. In fact I just chose a random prime movie Rango in HD and it played just fine. I haven't done anything special to enable it, it just plays. Are you sure you're choosing the HD video and not SD?
Yes I choose the HD version. When the video loads for you does it indicate it is a HD video connection when it checks the connection speed. I can watch the HD videos but they are not in HD. They are definitely not as sharp as when I watch the same video streamed from Amazon on my blu-ray player. Also my blu-ray player tells you it is a HD connection when it checks the connection speed.

Thanks,
Jim

since it is in the sony outlet, and if they do like the HX800.
keep a eye out at costco, it may be in yours for a short time until sold out.......

How do I tell where and when mine was manufactured?
Label on the back of the set, bottom left side.

My local BB has both the hx 850 & 950 in. Money not an issue. Should I wait for the w900a, or which of the 3 is the best buy right now?

i've been waiting for the best deal and best tv for a year and I just want to buy one now. Whats the best tv of the 3? will the hx950 be updated with full array triliminous? worth it to wait for an unknown release?

Thanks in advance for the opinions and help.

Know one knows about the w900a as it's not out yet but I own both the 950 and 850 and can give you my veiws.

I judge the best tv's not so much about cost or features but best bang for the buck. I personally do not see that much of a difference in picture quality between the 950 and 850 to justify the price difference.

Please keep in mind that I purchased my 850 last week for half the price of the 950 BUT even if I didn't for the features and picture quality (both about the same minus full array on the 950) I would recommend the 850 and save some cash or use it for a sound bar.

Because your local BB has both in stock take a look at them up close and compare picture quality with the same source.

Hope this helps!

When I choose a movie through the Amazon app on the TV, it does not indicate whether or not it is an HD connection. All it does is check the connection speed and then loads the movie. When I use the Amazon app on my BR player, it does show along side the Amazon movie loading icon a HD icon. Whether or not that is a feature of the BR player or not I have no idea. The picture does seem a bit more clearer/sharper coming from the BR player.

Hi Fegam

Just wondered if you managed to calibrate your tv yet? Having tried a number of settings I keep returning to these:

Picture mode: cinema 1
Contrast: 93
Backlight: 3 or 4 (room lighting dependant)
Brightness: 38
Colour: 53
Sharpness: 45

Everything off - for Blu ray, Clear for cable

White Balance: 3-1-1-0-0-0-1

Anything abover 40 for brightness just seems to loose that filmic look for me - Just wondered what your thoughts were.

Thanks

I'm looking to take advantage of the current EOL run out sales on tv's, and am searching for an LED for my bedroom to replace my current Samsung 50" C7000 plasma. The plasma is moving to another room so I'm checking out some 46-55" LED and have narrowed it down to the following -

Sony HX850
Sony HX750
Samsung ES7100
LG LM7600

I have become very accustomed to the plasma look and love my C7000, but the HX850 seems to provide the closest thing to a plasma feel from all the LED's I've viewed.
From all the researching I have done, it seems the HX850 is about as good as you can get for an edge lit LED. The only thing holding me back is that it's quite a few $$$ more than the alternatives in my list, but most stores are down to their last 1-2 sets so I don't want to miss out on one.

It will be in a fairly dim room and will used for 50% blu-ray, 25% gaming and 25% regular TV.

What do you guys think?
Steer clear of the LG. I returned a 7600, 8600 and 2 9600's becaus e of DSE and edgelight bleed. Didn't try the Samsung so don't know. Compared the 750 and 850 side-by-side and preferred the 850. Very happy with my 850. A very minor amount of corner flashlighting but I'm getting used to it and starting to forget its there.

Go for the HX750 or 850. Both are excellent tv's.
Only concern I have with the HX750 is the matte screen seems to make those blacks a bit "dull". The Gorilla glass on the HX850 really deepens the blacks to my eyes. Is it worth the extra $300 though?
I had the 750 at first, but returned it and got the 850. IMO, the 850 is worth the price difference. PQ on the 850 is heads and shoulder above the 750. No matter how hard I tried to tweak the 750, I just couldn't get the PQ I was looking for. With the 850, a few minor tweaks and the picture just pops. You won't be disappointed with the 850.

It is totally worth it, don't think about it to much. The hx850 is superior in every way. I had the chance to compare them both with movies and games and the 850 has better blacks, better color reproduction (on cinema setting) and the gorilla glass is pretty elegant (it has reflections in sunny days but no to much and the glass collects almost no dust at all)
I had a choice between the HX750 or 850 and I went with the 750 because 1 the gorilla glass was to reflective and 2 I didnt see very much difference PQ wise to justify the higher price of the 850. That being said though you cant go wrong with the 850. Its a great tv but superior in every way to the 750? I beg to differ on that but thats just me.

I can't seem to find this simple information in the manual, or through a google search. And I know I saw it in this thread somewhere but it's 60 pages long.

I got a floor model and want to make sure I'm in home mode. Should this be apparent? Or should I do a reset and if so how do I reset the TV?

Sorry and thanks! Great TV btw!
