It could be relay which turns off/on and makes the click. For example my surround receiver does that when it shuts completely off after some 30 seconds with no signal on the HDMI ports smile.gif Not sure if the Sony has some "traditional" relays built in.

Oh ok pato now I know what your talking about. Like I said mine doesn't do it when turning it on only when I turn it off. I don't even notice it anymore.

I just saw that the HX850 won the 2012 EISA European 3D TV of the year award. After owning this awesome tv for a month and half now I can see why. Sony won it again this year for the W900. Nice to see that Sony is still at the top of their game. It may be only a European award but to me it says a lot.

I know my PS3 Slim pops and cracks like crazy right after I power it off. Must be a Sony thing...

Mine clicks when turned on and twice after being turned off (about 1 minute after then again roughly 5 minutes after).

I cleaned my HX850's screen for the first time this morning and again I asked myself.....why didn't I buy this set when I first had the chance? Gorilla Glass is so much easier to clean then a regular non Gorilla Glass screen which my HX750 had. Another benefit to owning such a magnificent tv. smile.gif

I have noticed significant lip-sync delays (80mSec to 120mSec) when playing Blu-rays from my Oppo player to my HX850 Tv.

I posted a description over on the Oppo forum here

Does anyone have similar experiences? Or better is there a fix?

PS my HX850 is a European model PAL 50Hz with terrestrial digital cable tuner.

Hmmm, when I first got my HX850 I played a pinball game on my Xbox 360 and noticed what I was pressing on the controller was happening a split second later enough that it really felt weird. Obviously input lag.

Anyway, I switched the HDMI input from 1 or 2 (can't remember) to one on the side and the delay was gone in that game and it's been good since. Pretty weird but it happened. I'd have thought all inputs were equal......

Just a suggestion to maybe try that with your Oppo?

Oh right, came here to post regarding the known rebooting issue with this TV.

I read about it in this thread when I first got the TV, but had only experienced it once or twice within the first few months. But it seems like it's happening pretty often to my set now.

I'll turn it on, and maybe 5 minutes later it'll go black and flash the Sony logo and come back as though it had soft-rebooted itself.

I'm just wondering how often this happens to other people, whether this could be something of a concern for us owners if it's a problem that might get worse over time etc.

Happens to me several times a week now, sometimes every day.

I haven't had any issue's like that with mine. Give Sony a call they might be able to help.

My advice still stands with regards everything in advanced options off bar LED Dynamic Control Standard. I would personally have Motion Flow on Clear as it adds backlight scanning and no soap opera affect, Standard and Smooth do very little to help with motion blur and add spades of soap opera affect, again its all personal, but i don't like the soap opera affect. My picture doesn't go nuts, it just looks like it's on Backlight 2, and the flicker is noticeable. I was going to suggest to you to try Motionflow Clear, since that improves contrast, improves panning, and takes the edge off the whites, but you may have a more serious problem.65pFOdbiggrin.gif

This tv must be set to game or graphics scene mode to get it's lowest input delay.

Change scene mode to game mode to stop all extra processing.

FYI - Tiger Direct has refurb 46" units available. I've never bought a refurb TV before but am giving this a shot.

That's the only way your gonna get one due to the fact that they are pretty much gone. I know a friend who has a refurbished Sony 929 and he has had zero issues with it. As long as they offer a good warranty with it I would give it a try.

anyone have any idea what this sticker on the back of my hx850 might be about?

in case it's not readable, the yellow sticker says "Privacy Review Completed: Feb 26,13 Associate ID#JP3R"

my set was a floor model, i wonder if it was refurbished or something?

looks like it was manufactured october 2012 and inspected in february 2013. unless this sticker is something best buy put on there when they moved the set from their display to their regular sales area?

hmmm.

the tv is perfect anyway, but i'm just curious.

More then likely all it is is an inspection sticker that BB placed on there before they were ready to sell it.

Funny thing happened last night. My wife and were watching the excellent Blu ray Baraka. This was the first time she saw it from beginning to end and she was blown away by it. All she kept saying is how beautiful the picture looked and then she brought up something that made me think. She and I were at our local BB last week and we looked at Sony's 4K HDTV. She loved the PQ and how clear and clean the PQ looked not to mention how good the colors were. Well while watching Baraka last night she made the comment that our HX850 looked to have the same detail and color that the Sony 4K tv had and her eye sight is better then mine! Basically my wife was saying she saw no difference in PQ between a 4K tv and our HX850 and that made me think of why I would even want or need a 4K tv when we have an excellent set in the HX850. It also made me think that 8K will be better then 4K if it ever appears in future TV's. They said in the Extra's on Baraka that the film was shot in 8K and you can tell with the detail and colors. The detail in the film was beautiful and looked incredible on my HX850. All I can say is damn I am so proud to own this tv. biggrin.gif

Hi, guys just got a 46HX850 display model with 2 years warranty from a not busy store in excellent condition, I've tested it and there is only one issue, Banding not as bad as my 46W905A that I'm selling but noticeable during sports and at the moment playing GTA5, should I keep it? I went from a 47W805 then 2 46W905 and now this HX850 which banding is not as bad as the W905. It is so annoying, I guess I could deal with it but it wasn't a great deal but I got a useless Blu-ray player with it lol. Don't get it wrong, I love the TV but Banding gets on my nerve. So should I keep it for 2-3 years or return it?
At the moment I think I want to keep it, mostly because I'm sick and tired of this TV haunting. My last TV was a 37L4000 which look yuck compared to any of the TV's mentioned above but at least It's issue free.

Anyway guys, please give me your thoughts.

Just keep it Delta. Its one of the best TV's Sony has made in years. But its up to you but getting rid of it would be a mistake in my book.

Yeah, I'm keeping it, shame it as some banding, but it's a lot less than my W905, handles angle better as well.

Thanks for your opinion mate.

Hi, Trying to find the best settings to game with, and have been wondering about two settings called edge enhancer and detail enhancer. I can see that these cause the picture to become sharper, and this does seem to make the games look a little more high res. I noticed they are both set to low by default, but do either of these add much input lag or cause any motion problems such a blurring/ghosting?

Do most of you guys turn these two off for gaming or use them?

Cheers, CJ

Thanks for the help Steve. I am playing GTA V atm (isn't everybody) and I have read its best to reduce picture sharpness as the game has no AA so will look better without artificial sharpners etc. I have to disagree with the HX853, using edge enhancers/detail enhancers on low setting just makes the game look even better!

Loving this TV!

Great to hear Crimson. Your loving your tv? I have been loving mine ever since I got it. Its the best investment I have ever made in a flat screen tv. All around best HDTV I have yet to own and its gonna be hard to find a replacement when that times comes and I hope that aint going to be for a LONG time. biggrin.gif

Very satisfied with the picture quality but i cant find the right zoom option for black bars.my pioneer kuro just stretched the black bars but this sony also streches the sides so you miss some of the picture(a lot of picture of the sides)what other zoom options are there so it just stretches the black bars and not the sides as wel.anyone else have this problem?
In regards to gaming on the HX85:

I only care about the best possible picture quality, should I stick with Cinema 1 which I've calibrated to hell and back, or is there anything of value to gain in a Game mode in regards to picture quality (ignoring lag and so on).
