thank you but why did all the sharpness so high? tried some sharpening 20-30 looks a lot better and sharper. the other partners settings are not for me because I play a lot of CoD. you still have good 3d settings for me?

hi everyone! does anyone know what setting i can adjust so that the black is not sooooo black. I've tried different settings but am not thrilled. Also, any recommendations on a better remote control that this flimsy one that comes with it - something universal for the soundbar too?? THANKS!

A dude I spoke with a BB today suggested there might be a 60" or 65" HX850 coming out this fall. I can't find any confirmation of this on the web anywhere. Has anyone heard or seen anything to suggest this might be true? I don't know that he had any reason to lie as he obviously would have really preferred I buy a Panasonic Plasma. The hx929 is out of my price range in the size I want, but if the hx850 is really coming out in 65", I might be willing to wait for it. Otherwise, I will probably go with a Samsung of some variety.

It may or may not be bogus. Guy at HH Gregg told me the reason Sony has a short line this year (and nothing new over 55") is because they're still picking themselves up from the tsunami (having lost a manufacturing plant).

I know the HX950 is due this fall, maybe that's what the guy at BB is thinking.

Hi everyone i know all advance setting are not very good and have lot of knowledge about it but can someone explain in detail about these settings:-

hue, noise reduction, mpeg noise reduction, dot noise reduction, reality creation, video area detection, resolution, noise filtering, smooth gradation, black corrector, advance contrast enhancer, gamma, auto light limiter, clear white, live color, white blance, detail enhancer, edge enhancer, skin naturaliser, i/p conversion, sbm ( in video input settings ),
digital broadcast picture mode.

Hey everyone. I currently own a 46 Inch KDL-NX720 and I am considering upgrading to the 46-HX850. Can anyone compare/contrast these two televisions for me? I have been very happy with the NX720, but I would like to know if the 46-HX850 is clearly a better 2D picture than the NX720. I really do not care about Apps or 3D. Also, is the picture really as good as the HX929? Thanks.

It has all of the features of the HX929 (except full array backlighting) and IIRC Cnet said it had 90% of the image quality of the 929 for 80% of the price (although it's more like 70-75% of the price). And also a reduction in the blooming artifacts that the 929 exhibited.

I've seen the 2 side by side with the same digital input (unfortunately in bright mode), but any difference I saw I probably hallucinated.

I just upgraded from 52 XBR9 model to an 55 HX850. I am impressed. About the only thing I'm disappointing in so far is the surprisingly little amount of picture settings floating on the internet. I pretty much had this thread, CNET, and flatpanelhad's review to start my base picture settings on. Then again I only watched Regular Show and my daughter play Eye Pet whilst doing tweaking my settings. Gonna watch me some movies tonight to get some burn in time on the new set. BTW, anybody got some good recommendations on a good set of cool looking 3D glasses?

Well it sure does have alot better viewing angles, also it does not have the blooming that set has. The hx929 does have better blacks though. I think atleast from the 2012 lcd's released this is the best 2-d tv on the market. I don't think its better than the best plasma, like vt50, but any other, possibly.

I can afford to upgrade to the HX850 and I want to know if the benefits of me upgrading to the HX850 are truly worth it vs the Quality of the NX720. Or is the HX929 an even better choice? The HX850 is a great choice. But if you get the chance to compare it to the Panasonic WT50 LED, then your decision might even get tougher. My local BB has both the 55HX850 and the Panasonic 55WT50 side by side (not sure if they were intentionally placed that way) but as good as the HX850 was, the WT50 had better blacks and better vertical and horizontal viewing angles, and motion handling had a very plasma-feel to it. The Panasonic is a little more expensive but only by a couple of hundred bucks. It's a tough choice.

Is the WT50 any good? Cnet reviewed the DT50 and could not have said worse things about it (outright calling it a bad TV). The issues were mostly the colors and the blacks being blue. I doubt the WT50's local area dimming and minor other upgrades could really improve that... but I could be wrong.

Sooooooo after some Dark Knight, Kung-Fu Panda 2, and Avatar, I must say if you own a 2010 or older LCD TV, you can't go wrong with the HX850. After doing research on the all the major brands I was about to pull the trigger on the Panasonic (plasma) until the reviews dropped (Trusted/FlatpanelsHD) on the HX853/HX850, decided to stick with Sony instead. Plus I saved some scrilla thanks to my BB warranty (hells yeah!). So anyway, props to bitterkevin for his settings which I've settled on minus the motion stuff since I really do not go for the whole soap opera look in movies. I'm old school and feel if that's the way the movie is mad then that's the way it should be played. If anyone got questions outside of comparisons (I'm not rich enough to own more than one $2k+ TV) then fire away. I only got the PS3 hooked up since the kids hooked up the 360 to the XBR2 (our family's 'Old Faithful').

Was it a bright store by chance?

Not the place to judge PG.

The WT50 has an amazing filter on it that gives it inky blacks during the day, turn the lights off and see what happens. wink.gif

Thanks BVI! I have been using Motionflow Clear lately and I don't have BluRay frown.gif so I see no SOE. For me, Cinemotion makes things have SOE. Anyway to each their own! This TV is great for gaming, especially in Game Mode, it is supposed to have very low lag (some review said 30ms i think). I do not even notice lag with Motionflow and Xreality on, so this processor must be beastly.

Agree, the store is no place to judge PQ. FWIW, the store, at least the HT section, wasn't especially bright. It's away from the front windows and the lights were somewhat dimmed.

EDIT: Just got back from BB. I took my USB flash drive with me and tested the 55WT50 with some test patterns and some movies and I saw some very noticeable uniformity issues and edge-light leakage around the panel edges. It was awful. Didn't have time to do the same test on the HX850 but I plan on stopping by tomorrow and doing it. Hopefully it's better than the panny.

My apologies mate, I meant no harm. With your thoughts in mind, think I'll fire up a round and test it out, have yet to try gaming mode or gaming with the motion on and set to clear. Only a day and a half in so still exciting times! I should have mentioned first world problems as a disclaimer for my opinions in my post! Cheers man!

I initially considered this set but these reviews - from several highly regarded sources - were not at all positive. Simply put, Panasonic LCD TVs are to be avoided it appears:

That's good to know. I just updated my previous post about huge uniformity and panel light edge-light leakage issues with BB's display 55WT50. It was very disappointing.

Yeah there is no way the wt50 compares to this tv. I saw in best buy next to a gt50, and it looked awful compared to that. Atleast in terms of black levels.

Just bought this tv, a play alot ps3 so what picture settings are u using for gaming. do you use gamemode?
