If you do then make sure your PS3 has the 3-D update. Also, you need to go into the output settings on your PS3 and set it to 3-D. I'm not exactly sure where it's located but it is in the output settings or display settings.

Yes I have an HDMI cable and I run 1080p. I'm told the 3D update came with firmware 3.53, and my unit has 4.21. I go into the display settings-->video output---> I choose 1080p then it doesn't give me the 3D selection after that.

??

I had the 3-D update for over a year before getting a 3-D TV and had the same problem. I had to go into the PS3 Settings to change it to output 3-D. I have the original PS3 (60G) so it might be different than the new slims. I wouldn't think it would be though. Sorry.
What's supposed to happen is I click "yes" when it asks if I can see the 1080p screen, then the 3d compatibility screen comes up. This is as you navigate the video output settings on the PS3. I'm not getting that 3D compatibility screen. So the TV isn't doing something it's supposed to be.

That's why I'm on a forum for the TV and not the PS3....

Has anyone run into this? HELP!

Do you have the PS3 going through a receiver, or directly to the television? The receiver may not be 3D capable.

If you are going direct to the TV, then I'd try a different HDMI cable and port and see if it makes a difference.

When I use my Xbox to play a 3D game, there are some games in which you need to go into the game settings itself and set it to 3D.

Mexico! Build date August 20212.The shipping guys must have been messing with me. I looked at the bill of lading and it originated from SSCS in Romeoville Illinois. Really liking the picture a lot. Still playing with settings though. Got the sound from the TV speakers somewhat better by changing my cable box audio settings and maxing the bass out on the TV sound settings. Still not great but tolerable. I didn't really do any comparison shopping because of my situation, but I really like this TV and would definitely recommend it for consideration to others.

I will try your options but I can tell for sure that Warm 1 is what I like more and Reality Creation OFF.
Any tips for the White Balance settings?

I too like Reality Creation OFF for 1080i and 1080p movies, Reality Creation = Manual makes the picture SOFT.

If I got it right you use RC on manual for 1080p movies?

OFF for both 1080i and 1080p movies. I don't like Manual at all.

Does the included stand on this TV make the TV tilt backwards as mentioned and shown in the flatpanelshd.com review?? Is there any way to make it sit straight and non-tilted? It looks like the new HX950 has a similar tilted stand, which is a total deal breaker for me. I don't watch TV standing up! Having the TV tilted upwards instead of perfectly vertical would be unbearable. What the heck were they thinking making the TV tilt backwards on the stand??

The US model stand is tilt-able. You should be able to tilt it forward and get it vertical.

@allencc3

Can u please post you're settings for ps3 gaming?

Thanks

Thanks for the responses....

Mine is on the stand where it is slightly tillted backwards. You don't even notice the tilt...don't worry.
The tilt reduces the relections on the screen during daytime by a lot!

Okay I just got this Sony KDL-55HX850 delivered yesterday and for some reason some of the non HD channels are way to blurry for peoples faces.

I replaced a LG 50" Plasma which did not have this blurry problem so I am lost.

The HD channels seem okay for the most part, although my eyes seem to have a hard time focusing on the LED screen at times, unless this is normal from going from a Plasma to a LED.

I did copy some settings from Cnet.com to the TV to see if that would help. These are what I used. If anyone has better settings for this TV let me know.

I just do not understand why some of the non HD channels are so blurry.

I bought this from Bestbuy and they did give me a great deal on their Geek squad Calibration for the TV. Did not want it but they kept pushing it, was the worst hard sell I ever went though for a non tangible item. They said they have to wait till the TVs been in use for 100 hours before they can come down and do it. Said it will take like 90 minutes to do the calibration if that's even true I will see.

Doubt it will do anything much really, but I got it real cheap so did not care.

Any help would be appreciated.

The Cnet Settings are for Blu-Ray in a dark room if you want a theater like experience.

For non-HD channels, use the Auto Scene Select that comes out of the box.
It's still all blurry in the non HD channels with it on auto scene.

About to send it back. When I stand near the TV screen I can see lines and stuff I never saw on my Plasma. Maybe that's what people refer to as the Dirty Screen Effect (DSE).

Also I had to turn the Brightness way down to like 20 cause otherwise all the dark images on screen where becoming blocky, this did fix that though. You did not see it as bad sitting on the couch, but if you stand near the screen you see it big time.

I bought this TV cause of the good reviews on it, but so far I am not impressed and thinking of sending it back for one of the good Panasonic Plasmas.

I notice the blurry non HD channel stuff on The Peoples Court show the most. On my Plasma it's perfectly fine and not blurry at all, but on this LED it's blurry and hurts your eyes.

Anyone see this kind of problem on non HD channels?

Plasmas have a softer image that obscures the crap on your overcompressed SD channels to a certain extent. you've got a classic case of garbage-in/garbage out. for best results go on Craig's list and find a working 27" crt tube set to watch people's court on.

Hello guys I need very very good settings for ps3 gaming on the HX855. Nobody here can post a pro setting?
Hi guys,

I am new here, this is my first post. Just got 40HX850 and have a problem...
Overall TV is excellent and picture is great but when browsing through menus there are some kind of white clouds on black background and I can only decrease it if brightness is set to 80 or over, but then, of course, the picture is too bright. Is this normal? Can it be fixed with settings? Or I need to return it and replace it with new one?

Thanks everyone!
That is clouding and this is normal.

Is there a way to return back to the last firmware update or does anyone know how to reset or repair the Netflix? Prior to this last update it worked flawlessly.
Thanks in advance

Bump. Anyone have a clue?

Do you have the 850? I'm seriously interested in the 55HX850 and have read through this forum top to bottom and haven't heard anything about clouding. Doesn't sound like a "clouding" issue would go this long without someone complaining about it. Clouding is normal to the Sony BX520 but I don't think it's normal to this set.

Local dimming or led dynamic control = standard is what eliminates clouding.

When you browse through menus, local dimming is not in effect.

I hope you didn't know buy your tv to only look at the menus.

So, there is clouding on the HX850? I'm sorry but I didn't exactly understand your post. Clouding and Halo-Effect are two different things correct? From my understanding clouding is there all the time, regardless if your cycling throug menus or watching regular programming and halo-effect happens with the local-dimming.
I'm not at all trying to be rude in any of my posts so If the last two posts seem that way I apologize in advance. I'm on the verge of buying the 850 and thought it was pretty good in the way of screen-uniformity, atleast I haven't heard of any issues until now.
You can search the forum for led dynamic control and clouding, like I said we have noticed that when you set led dynamic control to standard, clouding is not visibile. This is the recommended setting for this TV and with this setting, one cannot see clouding while watching cable/blu-ray or gaming.

I just had the Sony HX850 delivered 4 days ago and yes I see Clouding, Dirty screen effect and Blurry faces all the time and it's much worse if you watch a SD show.

If you stand say 5 feet from the TV I can see all kinds of things, but if I sit on the couch which is about 10 feet away I can only really see the blurry faces. My 10 year old LG plasma I just replaced with this Sony does not have blurry faces at all. I still use the LG plasma in another room, just it has 5 pixels out, 5 vertical lines top to bottom still watchable, but annoying and the faces are clear.

It might be that my settings are off. I used posted setting for this TV I got from various places, but still my old plasma has a way better picture then this new Sony 55HX850. Half tempted to send it back and just watch my old set with the 5 lines.

I do have Geek squad coming to calibrate the TV in 6 days and I am hoping this will help, but doubt it.

I will have to try setting the LED dimming to Standard and see if that gets rid of clouding at least.

Anyone know how to get rid of blurry faces even in HD?

I have not figured this out yet.
