My final choices are the sony hx850, the lg lm7600 or one of the panasonic plasmas like the 60gt50. Everyone rates the plasmas really high, but I just don't know if I can deal with any potential burn in and am not a fan of darker whites. I went to best buy to look at all the tvs, but only the LG looks ok. Just about every other tv, including the supposed best tv available in the panasonic vt50, look ridiculously bad at this best buy. I did like the design of the hx850 a lot though. Is the hx850 worth the extra money vs the LG or panasonic plasmas? I'm leaning towards it right now despite how bad it looked at best buy.
Thanks!

The hx850 has excelent PQ and very good deep blacks, for what I have read in professional sites de LG have average blacks but very good 3d. The panny plasmas have very good PQ in dark rooms but the PQ suffer in moderate to very bright rooms aside that the white look soft. For what I know these plasmas don't suffer from burn in anymore but they do have the image retention problem. The 850 probably didn´t look good inthe store because is in torch mode (vivid) but in the cinema preset have excelent color reproduction and brightness out of the box.

Whats PQ?

PQ = Picture Quality

can someone help me on how to turn on and off the x-reality on my KDL-46HX850 pls?
There is no off switch as such, but turning off Reality Creation in picture settings and SBM (Super Bit Mapping) in System Settings will cut out the processing associated with X Reality.

What does reality creation do? I have not not noticed any difference in PQ with this ON or OFF.
Adjusts detail and noise for a realistic picture. So it won't make a difference for high quality content
Below settings are available:Auto: Automatically adjusts the effect of Reality Creation.Manual: Changeable detail and noise effects.Off: Turns off Reality Creation.

Ok, First I must say that I finally bought the HX850 and couldn't be happier. The blacks are amazing and anything in B&W is a WOW factor.

With that said I am a complete idiot when it comes to 3D. This like many others is my first 3D TV and would like any tips or tricks that some may have.

However my main question is this...I have heard some say that the Sony TDG-BR250 glasses do not work well on the 850. Is this true? If so what is the major issue with them?

Next I know the Titanium glasses are the best but are there any other recommendations?

And Finally.....What about glasses for the kids; any ideas here?

I would like to thank all of you in advanced for your help!

I have about 10 days left to take back my Samsung 60EH6000 which has the dreaded Sharp panel that causes purple tinges.

After going from a 55" LG 7600, I love the size of the 60" EH6000. My only options left are Samsung 60" E7000 plasma (least IR for plasmas, but may get buzzing) or the 55" Sony HX850 (best blacks for LCD, no flash-lighting from what I gather).

I'm just VERY concerned I may be disappointed going from the 60" to the 55" of the Sony. I would love to get the 65" HX950 but that would make me completely broke. As it is, I'm trying to wait and hope the 55 HX850 drops to $1900.

I dont know who said that, but I got the 250, and they are awesome. 3D looks great and I dont have to sit like a statue either. Further, I like the fact that they completely shield my eyes from any stray light as opposed to the titanium ones which are more like specs

You may want to consider the KDL-60EX645. I had the 46" version, and it has great PQ.

edit: Regarding blacks and flashlighting, it has better blacks than the HX750, and as flashlighting is a gamble, just make sure you buy it from a store with a hassle free return policy.

Sounds great, but it's not listed on Best Buy's site frown.gif

Call and ask them about it. They might still be able to order it even though it's not listed.

P.S. Best Buy's Website is never current. Even employees complain about it.

Any other suggestions?

That was what I got when I asked.
I supposed the x103's are a possibility if you want compatibility across different makes of TV, but no one has commented how they work with the hx850.

The EX645 has better blacks then the HX750? I have the 46HX750 and I can say this the EX645's blacks dont even come close to matching it and the reason is is the HX750 series tv's like the HX850 it has Dynamic Edge Backlighting and the EX645 does not. Believe or not that feature alone makes all the difference in the world.

Best Buy's ad this week sucks, no price drops, no special bundling, no nothing. Look's like the HX850 price wont budge. Although if I get it, I have 30 days to pricematch if they do drop the price...

The price just dropped $100 a few weeks ago and it dropped $100 a few weeks before that. Wait until the middle of Nov or Black Friday and the HX850 will drop considerably.

Best Buy will price match a lot of online stores. For Columbus Day there were two places coming in $300 less than BB. Prices have since returned to where they were.

I'm sort of waiting to be within 30 days of Black Friday at this point. That way I can enjoy the TV for a few weeks and still get a rock bottom price by phoning them later.

has nothing to do with bestbuy sony has a price lock on their tvs.

Sony does price fix, but Best Buy is allowed to price match less than legitimate dealers that come in lower.

Does enabling local dimming and edge enhancements add to input lag?

I don't think local dimming or edge enhancements would have any effect but having motion flow turned on or cranked up could add to input lag.

The out of the box GAME mode comes without any local dimming or edge enhancements. I bet this is to minimize lag as much as possible. So turning these on may add to lag, not sure if you can perceive it or not.

Surprisingly edge enhancer and detail enhancer are on by default in game mode. LED Dynamic Control however is off as standard in game mode.

I would think LED Dynamic Control would add to input lag hence it being off as standard.

One thing i will point out is that LED Dynamic Control is no where near as aggressive in Game mode, ie the blacks never go as deep as they do in Standard or Cinema Scene. So that being said i doubt LED Dynamic Control adds as much input lag in game mode as it would in the other scenes.

As for the edge/detail enhancer, i personally see no need, if in doubt about their effects with regards input lag, just crank the sharpness control up, i see no need for it to be above the default 60 though. Personal choice though.

Local dimming will definitely add input lag.
The amount of processing to analyse the image
and apply the local dimming will add a certain
amount of input lag -- whether it be noticeable
is also subjective to the person.

Surely enough, most times it is easily noticeable.
Turn it off while gaming, along with the other
PQ enhancing options.

Which 3D glass is best for HX850? Playstation 3D but a bit bulky?
