Does anyone think this model will drop in price again anytime soon?

It seems to be the ONLY LCD I can find that I'm happy with but the wife is pretty stuck on staying below 2k.
@wlee1225: A frequently asked question that no one has answered. I can only assume no one here buys 3D glasses.

Hi everyone. Just bought my Sony and it's truly amazing. I have set my blu ray settings based on information here and the picture is breath taking.

One thing I'm wondering is I no longer have cable and only stream through the tv, since streaming isn't truly 1080p does anyone have settings that work well for streaming?
Hello ,
I brought this TV 2 days back and PQ is pretty good , but when looking through off angle the picture is tending towards red , how to fix this ?
How is the SD content on this?
Rick
I do not know what you are streaming but in many cases the box Roku or apple will determine the resolution. Roku does 1080 and Apple 2 720 and Aple 3 1080.

However the source material will determine the resolution. Netflix has many Dvds in 1080 others SD.

If you are streaming through the Sony TV then the source will determine the resolution .

Your picture settings should be no different that when watching HDTV by sattelite cable or OTA.

You may want to start out with the same settings that you have for network TV then tweak them to your preference. I believe sony lets you apply the normal TV viewing to all settings or you can individualize,.Blu ray, normal tv Hulu or netflix

A better way to stream and get a stronger signal is use cat 5 or 6 cable to the modem as opposed to wifi.

Thats why sony gave you so many options so you could twek the set to your preferences.

Hello everyone,

Need some advice. I am interested in buying this tv but I am weary about blooming. I had bought a tv with local dimming and the blooming was terrible. I made it about 10 minutes into The Avengers and had to shut it off and return it. How is the local dimming on this tv? Is blooming an issue?

Best Buy is so lame. This week, buy a magnolia Samsung and get a free 32" Samsung led. Buy the magnolia Sony and get a dumb soundbar/wireless sub, worth "$300". I doubt I could even get $100 for it on Craigslist. Why can't they just keep the soundbar and reduce the hx850 by $100 or so?

I would think LED Dynamic Control would add to input lag hence it being off as standard.
One thing i will point out is that LED Dynamic Control is no where near as aggressive in Game mode, ie the blacks never go as deep as they do in Standard or Cinema Scene. So that being said i doubt LED Dynamic Control adds as much input lag in game mode as it would in the other scenes.
As for the edge/detail enhancer, i personally see no need, if in doubt about their effects with regards input lag, just crank the sharpness control up, i see no need for it to be above the default 60 though. Personal choice though.
Aaron

Anyone interesting in doing an input lag test with edge enhancer and detail enhancer turned off?

Here you can find details regarding downloading the software and executing the test:

Could anyone PLEASE tell me if you can enable MotionFlow for native 3D games on this TV? My HX950 has MotionFlow grayed out for native 3D games, but not for 3D movies, which is silly. I complained to support about it, but would really like to know if its a general Sony thing or limited to my model.. Thanks!!

The Playstation ones are best, better than the Titaniums from my testing. The PS ones are the only ones Sony makes with a built in polarizer. The 250s are supposed to be not that great. They will distort the 3D if you tilt your head just like the Ti glasses due to lack of polarizer. Not so on the PS glasses.

To start with, i'm a newbie and i'm going to buy sony 55 inches HX850 LED tv in few days time. As a basic knowledge, i know that the inbuilt speaker which comes with the TV is a crap. So i thought of buying a combo bundle which includes sony DAV DZ340(specified as "DVD home theatre system 5.1") and 3d blu ray payer for discounted price(since i'm buyin the TV).When I started searching about the product quality, i came across the following comments
"u cant hook up your TV with 5.1", "it is best to go with speaker with AV receiver", "u will receive only the stereo", " Onkyo is the best choice for HT not sony, lg or samsung",etc...
so my questions are:
1. i'm basically going to use dish TV, cable and i'll watch 3D film often.do i need AVR,if yes ,why and what for it is used?
2.Is "DVD home theatre 5.1" means whether that i cant play 3D films with 5.1 sound in those sony models. Is HDMI cable is a solution for that?what is the purpose of it?
3. To put it simple, what are the other thing should i buy with the TV and blu ray disc to enjoy surround sound?

@Favlius: Thanks. That's the first I've heard of which are better. Do polarizers really have an effect on these screens? I wouldn't think they would do anything.

Also, have you had a chance to try the xpand x103s (or x104s)? I'd like to get the added cross manufacturer compatibility... but not if the 3d is crap.

I have three more different brands of 3D glasses coming in the mail for a shootout including X103s. But yes the polarizer makes a huge difference. Samsung 3D glasses are all polarized by default, btw. The Ti glasses are just a glorified version of the 250 glasses, also without a polarizer, which directly corresponds to head tilting 3D loss. I also like the color and crosstalk a bit better on the PS glasses. I will report back in the HX950 thread with my findings.

Now can anyone please tell me if native 3D games on HX850 force off MotionFlow? Thanks! biggrin.gif

The HX 850 has great reviews from CNET

Do a Google search on HDMI it will tell what they do. Cables should be 5 to 10 dollars and there is a sponsor on this site that sells them monoprice I believe ??.
You do not need expensive HDMI cables contrary to what a salesman tells you. The HDMI cable carries both audio and video between devices including the 3 d signal.
That receiver you looking at is inexpensive comes with a dvd player not blu ray. I attempted to look up the number of HDMI ports on the back of the unit on the web. I was unsuccesful..

When you buy the television, usually the 3 d glasses are extra forget about the receiver at present, also you may have to buy a stand or bracket which will ad to the purchase cost.
That TV is selling for approximately $2000.00 in many places. Buy a blu ray player make certain that it is equipped with 3D most average to above average players are so equiped.

Connect everyhting up to the TV and enjoy it. The sound on the TV is not as bad as you think there are sound fields you can adjust on the TV and this set had a built in woofer as well as a left and right speaker.

Certainly your sound will be enhanced if you have an av receiver. These units usually enhance the video signal and improve the sound think of them as the brain of you audio video set up.

You would need HDMI ports on the back of the avi receiver minimium, TV, Blu ray DVD,aux This will permit a choice of devices that you can attach.

I would suggest that you buy the receiver or sound bar once you have become more knowlegeable and have a comfort zone in their function and use, or in the alternate have a knowlegeable friend assist in the purchase and set up

Does anybody know how to pass super whites on this tv? I'm using cinema 1 defaults and when looking at a whiter than white ramp on avc709 I get no flashing bars above 230. When I raise brightness nothing flashes below 16 no matter how high I put it. Does this t.v. even support super whites?

Are all Best Buy's offering this?

I was just at the one where I live in VA on Friday and they had nothing to offer.

looking at buying this or a samsung 7500 what do u guys think between the 2 for the same price, do u guys like the hx850

Also is the gorilla glass scratch and break resaitance.
Go to CNET they have reviewed both sets.

They list the cons and pros of both sets.

CNET recomends the HX850 as the best set to buy for 2012. The price on the 55 inch Sony has dropped recently to around the $1998 range at most retailers

An other source of review is Consumer reports and of course the comments on this forum.

The Gorilla glass is a nice touch especially if there are children in the house. The sound will be better with the sony as it has a woofer speaker .
Sound is normally poor quality on most sets due to the small speakers.

Personally I prefer the Sony over the Samsung

No blue tint. Amazing for reflections too, don't know how how they do it. Btw, its Gorilla Glass. You don't go to war with it.

thanks for your insight dude..Dont worry i ve a adequate knowledge about receivers and HDMI. HDMI cables are used to interface TV with the input signal to tranfer datas at higher speed than the normal cables does which results in better PQ and audio if i'm right. i'm urging to buy 5.1 with the TV itself cuz i can snatch a 3D blu ray player + sony DAV DZ340 5.1 HT as a combo pricing 16k in discount where it cost around 30k(14+16) if i buy them separately. definitely i need to buy 3D payer to play 3D movies so if i get some queries cleared i can get a proper 5.1 with almost in half price. i dont ve a knowledgeable person around me to help so i ve to learn by myself so please help me, if u still think that combo doesnt worth it i'll better avoid it.this 5.1 model has 1 HDMI port ( for entire spec refer this link: http://www.flipkart.com/sony-dav-dz340-5-1-home-theatre-system/p/itmd29nzzgvm4kff )

1.when we connect this model 5.1 with the 3D blu ray player, it wont play that file since it doesn't play BD format(since the receiver which comes with the sony DAV DZ340 will support only DVD, Xvid,... but not BD)...am i right?

2.how should i set up DTH and blu ray player with HTIB or HT with receiver?? wt are the HDMI compatibilities i should look upon the HTIB and bluray player b4 buying??

3.if i'm right, the o/p from DTH is 2 channel so the 5.1 connected with the TV doesnt plays 5 channel surround system so i need a receiver in between to convert 2 channel sound to 5 channel sound..am i right?

4. The price of the sony HX850(55 inches)quoted for me in Trichy showroom is 1.83 lacs where can i get the tv for much lower price as u said in TN ??also is it safe to buy from outside the showroom??

my hx850 is 4months old and bleeding light..strangely changing hdmi ports made it worse to the point where its bleeding in the center and all 4 corners...would this warrant an exchange from sony?
^^^Sonys save settings separately for each input. If you reduce the backlight setting on one input to reduce flashlighting then switch to another input the backlight setting may not be the same.

Sony will either have you send them pictures or have a tech evaluate your set to see if it is outside what they consider "normal".

i'm hoping the HX850 will drop a little in price after the HX950 is released on Best Buy's website... rolleyes.gif
