Newb needs HTPC receiver...I think. help!

Ok, although I'm pretty good with computer hardware I know nothing about sound, has never been a top priority of mine and with a tight budget it's always cut short. A simple sound card and speaker system is what I've always run off my computer.

Anyways, I run a HTPC for 90% of our TV/Movie/DVD/BR watching and have decided it's time for a sound system other than the built in tv speakers (horror!). I did a search and found some suggestions but my level of knowledge is so limited in this area I couldn't even confirm if these are good options for me.

So the idea is a receiver and 5.1 speakers, it's a little rectangular basement and has in the wall wiring for a 5.1 system. I guess I'm looking for a relatively affordable ($200-400) receiver that will run my HTPC and cable. Other than the HTPC we also have a playstation, wii and old VHS setup for family movies.

What would you guys recommend for an affordable low-mid level receiver? Thanks, it's really appreciated.

He has a Playstation, Wii and VHS.

The 2112 will be fine for his needs. PS3 uses HDMI, Wii component or composite, VHS composite. The 2112 has enough analog inputs for that.

Also consider the Yamaha RX-V671, Onkyo RC-360 and NR609 and Pioneer VSX-1021 if you can find one.

You guys are great, thanks.

edit:

Ok, doing some looking around for local toronto places here is what I've found around the $500.00.

http://www.electronicsforless.ca/aud...kage-2726.html for 600 (comes with speakers)

I couldn't find the specific models you listed other than the 1021, just wondering how the others compare. Oh, being a small basement small speakers are a must. Thanks again.

There's a GRANDSLAM of a deal going on at EE right now. Search slickdeals for it.

Sorry to revive the old thread but I still haven't pulled the trigger and then i saw this one:

http://www.amazon.com/Denon-AVR3312CI-Integrated-Surround-Receiver/dp/B004Z50L6E/ref=xs_gb_ATITA7JGIYADF?_encoding=UTF8&m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_p=441937901&pf_rd_s=right-1&pf_rd_t=701&pf_rd_i=20&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=01SDDFMQ661T0VNXM4WC

What do you guys think? It looks to meet my needs...plus more. Considering we're looking to move to a larger home within a year or two I figured this might work for now and then.
