LM7600 vs. LM8600

I saw the LM7600 at bestbuy and it looked great.

The LM8600 has:

1. Dual core for smoother smart TV.

2. Voice control via a mic on the magic remote.

3. (probably) better PQ due to software (from dual core).

4. Different frame.

IMO the 8600 is not really worth the extra money unless you plan to use the smart TV features a lot. However, no one will really know how good the LM8600 is until some reviews start showing up.

If you want the best PQ, I'd suggest looking at the top of the line LG LM9600, which has backlit LED (the lower models are edge lit) and TRUE local dimming.

I returned my Samsung 55es7500 today for the lm 8600. I hate to say it but the pq is far less superior. I do liked the 3d better as it seems to be more comfortable. So far no flashlighting, the Sammy was bad and only had it for 7 days.The display is more reflective which means i have to buy some curtains now. If you have any questions please ask.

Absolutely , I am watching the lg now and its great but the detail in the Sammy was awesome. I'm coming from a Panasonic viera , but so far I don't see any flash lighting on this set. I probably just need to calibrate it but the Sammy was awesome right out of the box. Also there was an issue in the Sammy with motion plus , seemed no matter what it was set on it overcompensated? And lastly the Lg has a pretty reflective surface which is hard to get use to. All in all its seems to be just pq on the es is much better

So your comparing a calibrated tv to a non calibrated and then saying the picture quality isnt as good? Seems a little fishy

Ah well then, but I have a c8000 and Id have to say the tv was inaccurate compared to what you get after its calibrated. Id assume the es7500 would have the same issue but I havent read a review on it so I couldnt give a definite answer. But if you were to ask me the LG7600 (Im not sure about the 8600) has a teeeeeerible in box setting, but once calibrated correctly it does very well compared to the samsung d8000 in everything but min black levels.

I'm glad to here that I really like this set ....design,3d , ....should I just buy a wow disc ? What would you recommend for calibration.

Well as you know, every tv is going to be slightly different so a + or - in a setting may be needed but based on the links I posted used:

A disc is always useful but you can find slides to do your own testing for free everywhere and use a usb instead of a disc (honestly who uses cds anymore? )

I am trying to decide between these two sets. My concern with the Sammy was active 3D vs passive 3D on the LG. Everything I read seems to say the LG is much better for 3D with the passive glasses but they say the PQ seems to be a little better on the Samsung. So if you could do it all over again which one you pick now that you have spent some time with both.

The 3d is more comfortable but I am returning the Lg for the es8000 the shiny screen is just to much for my viewing. But yeah I would have to say the Samsung has better pq.I'm sure others will say different but in my opinion Samsung has better clarity.

If you plan on watching 3d more than 50 percent of the viewing time then the log is the way to go. My preference is pq For normal viewing , 3d ....I also looked at the Sony xbr 929 but read they are having lots of failures with that model.

I think you make a very good point. If PQ is the best on the Samsung and you want non 3D most of the time you would go with the Samsung. I think this is the case with a lot of us in that we would not watch 3D the majority of the time. Maybe for some sports, the Olympics and an occasion movie for which the LG would be the best.

Now the new flagship LG LM9600 is not out yet and it has full- array dimming and this could improve the PQ to equal the Samsung in which case it would be the clear choice as it would have both PQ and best 3D but that remains to be seen.

i think HX929 will still a winner because of Gorilla glass, glossy but not reflective. and i think once you watch any full HD movie on HX929 you will hate edge lit TVs

The Sony was too high priced for me and just couldn't over look the pq of the Samsung .I went with the es 8000 and ordered the wow disc ....wish me luck.

I just returned the 7600 for the 8600 and was pleasantly surprised by the sharper PQ. I was wondering, as you mentioned, If the dual core plays any role in the perceived better PQ/dimming on this set.

The Netflix & YouTube apps are much quicker and streaming from my PC is infinitely faster. Since the 2 are so close in price, Id definitely recommend the 8600

My feeling is that a faster processor does not affect the PQ. It only affects the speed of applications and steaming/internet would be improved. Just like in a computer, a faster CPU does not always make for a sharper monitor but I could be wrong.

IMO, you do not buy the better quality 2D picture T.V. if you watch >50% non 3D content... I can't sit through a whole 3D movie with active glasses because it gives me and my son a headache: too much eye strain. As far as I'm concerned, active 3D is not an option so the question isn't what percentage of time you are going to watch 3D T.V., but rather how much is the option to watch 3D important to you?

That being said, watching the superbowl with my kids in 3D is worth a lot to me, so I'd choose the LG over the Sammy any day.

I have found a few sites stating the 7600 is a 120hz panel and the 8600 is a 240hz panel. I know they both have trumotion 240. But these websites suggest that the panels themselves are different similar to what Sony did with the ex720 and hx820. Can anyone confirm or deny this?

On LG website they indicate that both models are 240hz panels.

Looks like the LM8600 series has the Plus video resolution upscaler and the LM7600 has the Basic one. Also it looks like there are a few differences in connectivity features too.

I have seen both devices side by side. After calibration there was absolutely no visual difference.

Also there was no difference in menu speeds or with the apps. We didn't test streaming.

Well the 8600 is only a couple of dollars more on Amazon so I would assume it price is basically the same one would purchase the 8600.

I wish I have found this thread earlier. I had the LG47LM8600 for three weeks (bought it from Amazon) and I loved it. Picture quality is great BUT with some big flaws:

CONS:
1) TV relies on edge lit LED technology to light up the LCD panel and uses local dimming to achieve better blacks. This makes group of LEDs to turn on/off independently but it causes to display a band of light (halo effect) on the screen that really shows up on dark scenes. It can be seen when switching between TV inputs, the screen goes black and only the LG logo and the pink cursor from the magic remote shows up and BANG!! here you can see how a band of light follows the cursor wherever it moves. So I said no big deal, but then one night with all lights off and watching a movie (Safe House) suddenly the screen goes black and only the face of the actor shows and BANG!! the band of light is now really really apparent.

TV during the day when room is brighter you might not even notice it but at night when lights are off, you can really notice is and it is not appealing.

2)TrueMotion: I really did not like this feature at all, it comes with multiple set ups (Clear, ClearPlus, Low, Medium, etc). But you always get the "soup opera" effect. I think despite being 240Hz it does not handle very well fast action scenes. I ended up having this option off, even when watching sports.

PROS:

-3D is by far the best I have seen. And I prefer the passive technology, LG uses, than the 3D active technology.
-Media connect is great you can easily connect to other devices such PC and stream movies (MP4, MKV, AVI, etc) directly from there. I also liked it recognized AC3 or ACC encoding to take advantage of 5.1Dolby.
-Good looking, prefer it looks over a samsung.
-Having a dual core processor and a fast ISP made streaming enjoyable. LG app market has Redbull TV and I watched it all the time like if it was pure HD

CONCLUSION:
Despite loving this TV I could not live with the band of light so I had to return it. I have found some people saying they found the LM7600 not having these issues, so I might get one or the Samsung UN55ES6500. Any thoughts?
