Will a soundbar work for an open concept?

I am in the process of remodeling my condo and am doing an AV upgrade.

My issue is that i am not sure if a Soundbar will work well.

It is a large space that is the main living area and flows into the dining room/kitchen. See pictures here http://www.vrbo.com/49316#photos

My AVR is an Integra 20.3 and im using the 2nd zone for speakers in the kitchen via a Sonos Amp.

The whole space is 16w x 40d, but the living area where i am concerned about sound quality is 16w x 22d.

Thoughts on a soundbar?
Suggestions for my space?

Hi Nitro,

I'm in a similar situation as yours, since you have an AVR you should be looking into a 'passive soundbar', basically it's just 3 set of speakers in a soundbar form, each speaker, L/C/R is divided with its own chamber, check this thread for a pretty good list of passive soundbars:

Price range varies from 500-above 2k, so check those out and see which fits your budget/size/look.
I'm debating between a few within that post myself, goodluck with yours!

I have an open space similar to this. I normally do not really turn up my soundbar too much, but when I do turn it up I get some real good sound from mine and the bass is good from the sub which sits right next to me.
