Upgrading BR player, what are you using ?

I use an Oppo 95 BRP feeding my X-9.
I also have a 83SE for backup just in case.

OOPS,the 250 ishh range,maybe a Oppo 83.

I use Oppo 93 but that is > $250. I have a BenQ W6000 that I am using for CIH with an A-lens and using the letterbox feature such that I am not even using the vertical stretch (scaling) feature of the Oppo.

I had heard PS3 slim on sale is $299? That can also be used with a projector with vertical stretch scaling. Purely based on Amazon reviews, I think Sony has some good players in the $250 range but I am not familiar enough with them.

Your price range is most likely the reason you are not receiving information.

There are some good sonys out there, but by far the best, although above your range, is the Oppo 93. This player is used as the base by many, many ultra high end companies and players. Lex, Theta, etc all use Oppo as their base, I cannot remember all of them, but do a search on here or google and the list is long.

for 500 you get a player that does more and is more accurate than most players that cost an order of magnitude more.

No. If your projector stretches, you should be ok.

Don't know if they are still available, but the player I have been using for about a year now(?) is a Phillips BDP3000. This player loads fast and the guy that recommended it to me (he has one) claimed it was faster than his OPPO 93. The Phillips players have a "cinema 21:9" feature (future BD format?) and so have the ability to shift the STs (the main reason I bought it.

The ONLY neg about this player is it does not pass PLUGE (above video white or PC235, below video black or PC16). In the end of the day, we should not be seeing below video black anyway, but I do notice from time to time that whites are being clipped and that is not just for those horridly compressed Universal titles. Anyway, for less than $180 shipped, I can't complain.

If subtitle shifting is what you're after:

The 21:9 mode has been implemented on the US based Philips players now. There's no need to import one from Hong Kong as some of us did a couple of years ago to have the subtitle shift option.

Check on the US Philips that the model you're after has the 21:9 mode in the specs or in the readme of one of the firmwares.
