I am looking at these two TVs to buy, is the $300-500 difference in price (depends where you buy it) worth the upgrade to the GT?

With the gt you gain thx cert, 24,000 gray scale, dual core processor, a better looking tv. But you also get more input lag with the gt, if your a big gamer I'd go with the st.

Only you can decide if the GT50 offers anything you want that you're willing to pay extra for. Some people are more willing to spend money where others just cant stand the thought of parting with the extra money and don't feel the extra features are worth the extra money.

I'd pay the extra money just for the thinner nicer bezel, that 4th HDMI input, and possibly even the THX Bright picture mode that the GT50 has that the ST50 does not. The other upgrades that the GT50 has don't interest me though.

Doesn't it offer better 3d as well?

I have literally zero interest in 3D and pretty much skip past every 3D post in any given thread, so i know nothing about how any of TVs handle 3D

Hopefully someone else can offer feedback about this . . .

I am a big gamer, so that could be a huge factor, thanks.

3d does not really interest me, so those features really dont matter to me. ANd I only use 3 HDMI ports on my current tv for HD, 360 and ps3 (which is also my blu ray player).

How much more lag is there? Will I really even notice?

I think I read up to 50ms vs like 16ms with the st, the vt is like 24ms that's why I went with the vt. I would Definitly notice 50 but it's hard to say if you would, it depends on the games you play. I play a lot of sim racing games and I notice anything over 30ms or so.

Any real benefits of the beefier processor?

I saw the st in store it's a very impressive tv for the price, I owned a vt30 and the st picture look much better to my eyes. I plained on getting a 60 inch st50, but my wife said if I would promised to keep our next tv for 5 years I could get anything I wanted, so I went for a 65 inch vt50. For the price of the st you can't go wrong, I considered buying the elite 60 inch until I saw the st50.

I'm leaning toward the GT50 for your first and last reasons, especially the last. I have a living room with a cathedral ceiling with windows up high on the north and south. I have the southern windows blocked with drapes, but quite a bit of light comes into the room, even from the northern windows. Of course, I could put drapes up on the north, but if the GT50 THX Bright could handle the light during the daytime, then I'd rather go that way.
