Polk Audio Home Theater recommendations and info.

Let me begin by stating I have always loved music, being new to this about 10 years ago I bought a Sony receiver and speaker package. Later upgrading pieces at a time like any college student. Jump to about 3 years ago I purchased and Onkyo TX-SR806 and 2 Polk VM 30s and a Polk CS20 center with Bose 301 rear and side speakers with Polk PSW505 sub. I have slowly phased out my Bose speakers. I current system has 2 Polk VM30 front 2 Polk rt1000 for side 2 Polk rt800 for my rear, CS20 center, polk psw505 sub. I purchased the vm30 for the design and clarity like most other owner you need a good sub to go with it. So I connected a small 150 watt Polk sub to the vm30 via the speaker wire from the receiver then it goes to the vm30 to "create" full band front speakers.
My question is as follows I have a Polk cs400 center would sound better with my system?
I also have another set of Polk rt1000 in my bedroom with Polk rt/ fx surround powered by my onkyo TX-SR606 the cs400 is from the bedroom where sound isn't as important.
I was also considering moving the vm30 with the small sub to the bedroom and moving the rt1000 to my living room. So my living would then have 4 rt1000 and 2 rt800 stil not sure which center the 20 or 400.
I think my living room would then be a bit low end heavy.
I welcome any and all suggestions.
Thank you in advance.

I've heard the cs400i is a very nice center speaker, much better than the cs20. I think that since you have the speakers, just plug and play and see what sounds best where.

I have tried the CS400 last night in my main room and I love the sound so I have decided to keep it there. Any suggestions of the VM30 or the RT1000? For my main room. It is a hassle and pain to move them up and down 2 flights of stairs.

If you have the time I have another question for you. I am looking for a set of RT3000 or RT2000 as well as CS1000. On my quest for the towers I found a set of RT20 they seem similar to the RT2000. Would you suggest I continue with my search for the RT2000 or take the RT20?

The RT20p's are an older version of the rt2000p's . Basically you should look for a pair of Rt2000i's which where the last powered RT tower made as far as I can remember. They will have the best overall sound IMO as I have listened to all 3 models.
The RT3000p's IMO are the best speaker of that time. They are remarkable compared to the RT1000 and Rt2000 all offerings and years. They are much clearer , more detailed and have way better low end response. If you are going to buy different front channel speakers for your system , I suggest going with them a CS1000p center and getting wall mounted FX/1000 surrounds and surround back channels. They will truly be an incredible older model speaker package. It's called the RT5000 system.

The VM's are a good sounding speaker and I'm wondering if they perform better then the Rt1000's in your opinion? I have little experience with the VM's as I have done the wall mount versions and never did the 30 floor standing models.

I'm curious why haven't you looked into the newer RTia models which IMO are the very best sounding RT model anything I have ever heard. They are a try upgrade from all older models as Polk just keeps finding ways to improve on them. The RTia7's are awesome speakers as well as the RTia9's. They out class the older models especially in detail and balance. They are pretty damn good.

Your receiver is a weak link in your system as well as your sub woofers. You would benefit from better power and sub's. I suggest if you like the Onkyo sound look into the Integra DTR80.3. It has much better power then your 806 and I think they sound much better then the Onkyo offerings. It's also damn sweet as a preamp if you really want to go to the next level and get some power amps like a used B&K REF200.7 or a Rotel RMB1095 with a RB1080 for surround back or mains using 2 channels of the RMB1095 for surround back. Either way is fine and very powerful.
Subwoofer I would strongly suggest a Velodyne SPL1200 or a pair of them over hunting down new front speakers. 2 MiniV 10's also would be a very good score. You would be amazed how better sub or subs sound then a lesser quality model with good main speakers or in a full theater array.

Your current system can be much improved. Its nice the way you have it , I think you did a very good job building it. I'm a long time polk audio fan and still have polk speakers around the house.

Good luck with your upgrades , fun isn't it?

Thank you for you insight, this is actually my first step a decent audio system. I would love to invest in a better quality I am getting married is a 3 months. So I am just using play money to get something decent for the meantime. Slowly buying new components when I am able to. I purchased the VM30 because of the design and he clarity. Like most people who on them there really is very little low end from them. They sound great if you want details and little low end. That was my main reason for moving them into my bedroom, now after listening to my vm30 in the bedroom i miss the clarity of them. I was wondering if I could hookup an external am using my onkyo preamp. I like to keep my AVR for now and eventually move it into my bedroom. I would like to purchase the new LSI setup, would you recommend the RTiA line when I upgrade to multiple amps since the power rating on the LSI can only handle 300 watts whereas RTiA can handle more. Keeping in mind I am not looking to go crazy and have an audiophile setup. I have and am considering the external amp options. What would you suggest?

Thanks in advance.

I actually picked up a set of RT3000 locally and now have them set up as my mains rt1000 for my side rt1000 for my rear as well as the cs400 for my center. I would like to upgrade to cs1000 if I can find one. But in the meantime I would like to keep my AVR and use its preouts to host a decent 200-250 wpc amp for my speakers any recommendation?
