Jedi Theater (JR)

I've been working on my Star Wars theater over the last year. This forum has been invaluable in coming up with ideas on how to put it together. I built the theater in a 2nd floor bed room which was a nice space, but smaller than my previous house theater. This time around I wanted a screen wall but posed some difficulties, because I needed to conserve every bit of seating area I could. After looking at some various minimalistic screen walls, my dad and I came up with a screen wall that hid the speakers, but also prevent loss of screen to chair distance.

All right phase one. Paint and carpet. Lost the battle to replace the newer carpet in the room, so I just ended up carpeting the riser and front. I went with a flat Micky Mouse Ears paint for the ceiling and Mick's shadow (Nice gray) for the walls. I had to cover a window, and removed a door to swing outward to make space for the riser

Riser Construction:

Here is the riser that we kind of free formed to fit the space, and allow enough room for the speakers.

Came up with a plan to mount the screen directly to the wall and build the screen wall out to surround the screen. From all the posts advice the recommendation was to build a screen wall with plenty of depth, but I just didn't have the space.

We used Linacoustic RC for the back wall.

At this point I stopped for some time, before proceeding with the screen panels. I ended up going pretty simple using 1x2's, Black GOM, and lots of glue and staples. I used industrial grade velcro to attach the panels. It wasn't until towards the end of framing the front wall that my Dad came up with an idea on how to hide the front speaker. Turned out pretty nice.

I used blue LED rope lights for the front and riser. Not sure I like them yet, hopefully when I install my Grafik Eye, I can tone them down a bit.

I really wanted some other design element and went with the Retro Buck Rogers looking theater I saw online. I spent a huge amount of time on them. The fins didn't come out as clean as I wanted, and the pillars just ended up taking up to much space, so I scrapped them. This is a memorial to them

Here is what things look like today. I still need to replace the door, install Grafik eye controller (4 zones), install 6 recessed lights, finish baseboard moldings.

I have to open issues, one is to block off the closet (Thinking heavy theater curtains), open for thoughts and ideas. Second is the wall space, It needs some type of treatment/design element...any thoughts????

Built four simple wall panels, mostly for look, but they should serve as acoustic panels as well.

Its been a while since I put up the screen, but I believe it was about 110".

I'll see if I can find some photos of the screen wall construction. The small bedroom didn't have enough space to build a deep screen wall, so I had to adlib with what I had.

I'll look back on my drawings for the room size.

Front row is a little to close, so they are my IMAX experience seating. :-)

Originally the posters on the wall looked kind of plain, so I came up with the pattern on both sides of the frames to give the posters a sense of motion and sci-fi look. I just used some 1/2" MDF, routed the edges and covered it with a heavy black felt that I picked up at Hobby Lobby. I used picture rails to mount them on the wall.

For the sign, I found a free star wars font, by googling it. Then had a local sign shop make and paint the signs using a cheaper sign foam board. Turned out great. Still wasn't super cheap, I think it was about $275.
