Moving components to lower level

Thread Starter
This is what I would like to do is move my AV receiver, bluray player and dish receiver out of living room and move them down to lower level to a closet. What is the easiest way to do this and be able to control them like they are still in the living room. The location in the lower level is where all phone, network and coax cables are located for the house.

I suggest you keep the bluray player local, but that adds to the complexity.

To control the components, you would use an IR extender or RF remote.

If your HDMI cable would be less than 50 feet, use a long high quality HDMI cable. And run a few category cables with it, to use for an extender if the long HDMI doesn't work, and for LAN connectivity. And, I'd run a couple RG6 cables to the TV, if they are not already there, for future proofing.

A Harmony RF remote might be a consideration, for control.

There's definitely something to be said for keeping a disc player locally. You don't want to have to trudge up/down the stairs all the time. You can just as easily send it's signals back down to the rest of the gear, and then back up to the TV. You can use an IR repeater to pickup the local remote controls and send them down to the gear.
