Need AVR recommendation

I need a recommendation on an AV receiver. Just upgraded to a new TV (after using my 35" Sony tube for 16 years) and now find that my Denon 1802 is just a little out of date. Can't hook up the TV to the Denon due to no HDMI.

Here's the current equipment list:

TV - Samsung UN46D6500
Speakers - Center: Mirage OM-C3; Fronts: Mirage OM-9; Rears: Mirage FRX; Sub: Mirage OM-200
Dish network

Other thoughts...I don't care about 3D capability or 7.1. Definitely want 5.1. Would like to have speaker calibration, iPod/iPhone capability. Entry level is fine as long as it does a quality job.

Thanks in advance for the recommendations.

For now the 1802 will work fine with your Dish receiver. Connect the Dish box via HDMI to the TV and use optical from the Dish box to the receiver for audio.

It'll be the same Dolby Digital that you would get if you run HDMI to a new receiver.

When you add a blu ray player is when the HD audio from HDMI comes into play. And of course the room calibration is a plus and the USB port for the iPod.

The Denon 1612 might be all you really need.

Thank you sir...I thought the video for the TV had to go through the receiver for everything to work properly. Will give this a shot.

Regards...

Tried this but did not work. According to Dish, once you hook up the TV to HDMI, it kills the optical audio output port. Stinks but is what it is.

Thanks anyway...

I have DirecTV and don't have that problem. All audio and video outputs work simultaneously.

Another option is to use component video to the TV until you get a new receiver. Then you could use the optical output for audio.

Run the digital audio from the sat box to the stereo.
Don't send any signal out of tv.

He wasn't using the TV optical output, he was using the Dish optical out.

He said once you use the HDMI port, it disables the optical out on the dish receiver. Sounds crazy to me, Doesnt work that way on the DirecTV or Comcast boxes I've seen.
