Budget ~ $1300 or thereabouts.
I'm looking for a 50"-55" CCFL LCD (or a direct LED - no edge-lit!) that has the following features:
- 1080p
- IPS panel (or something with comparable viewing angles, PQ)
- Good 24p mode (#1 reason why I want 120Hz model, if possible)
- Plenty of I/O: lots of HDMI in, component in, composite in, analog and digital audio outs, USB port and/or SD Card slot, LAN port would be nice (but optional)
- User-upgradeable firmware process
- The ability to stream from my PC or NAS (via HDMI or LAN or DLNA? or something other than analog VGA port, if possible)
I do not care about 3D, or duplicating any of the Internet capabilities of a new BR player, or the "looks" of the TV when powered off (it can be bulky and ugly, so long as the PQ is good.) I will not be playing games on it much, so input lag doesn't have to be the best, so long as it isn't terrible.
I love the specs and user reviews of the Samsung D630, but they don't have any larger than 46". Samsung doesn't use IPS panels, do they? Is PVA nearly as good for viewing angles? Toshiba has a new 50" model for $999, but I don't know if it is edge-lit or not, and it is very basic. LG uses IPS panels in many models, but are any of them NOT edge-lit (and under $1.5K)? What other brands/models use IPS without being edge-lit and very expensive? (I know that local-dimming at this size is way beyond my budget.)
Thanks for any advice! (This will be my first HDTV ever, btw.)
