can I extend the cables on this BD player? if yes by what lenght?

I do'nt see a problem extending the data cable however I'm thinking the power cable maynot be extended?
could a AC powered USB hub provide enought power?

I would like some recommendations on BD software.

I've read that one reviewer saved the included 30 day trail software to HDD and simply renamed the extention file any tips on how this is done is appreciated.

Thanks STB

An extension cord for power and check monoprice for USB cables in the length you need.. BTW, why do you need it so far from your computer?

I have no idea what the purpose of changing the file extension for the playback software is. Can you provide more information as to why you want to do this?

Look into active USB cables, they allow extensions of 25 ft. or longer.
Regarding power, you might be able to power it using a USB cellphone charger.

here what he reviewer wrote reguarding the 30 day trial powerDVD software "The CD contain a free trial software of PowerDVD 11, but it are in a undefined format. Not a big deal too. In this case, copy the file to your HDD, change the name of the extension for *.rar, unzip with Winzip, Winrar, or 7zip and ENJOY!!"

Hello Bryan yes this is the current plan to hide the PC inside the cabinet and have the BD drive acessable in front inside my dust proof container.

I'm concidering cutting a simiriarl hole on the other side which is much less visable (my media storage area) exposeing the power buttom, DVD tray & card reader.

As far as extending the cables, an extra couple of feet will be fine. Just make sure you get a usb extension cable that will support that power, i.e. a lower gauge cable.

As far as your software question, I still really don't understand the problem. Can you not install the software at all?

To extend USB, for long runs do USB over Cat5e (Monoprice). For runs under 20' just buy an appropriate length cable. Chaining shorter cables will just cause headaches.
