After reading that, I'm afraid I may not be able to record certain programs on TV. Since my current VCR is 10 years old, maybe it's not as sensitive to copy protection. But I don't want to invest $100 in a recorder and then find out that I can't record.
There are ways around that for another $100. The Toshiba DVDRs work well but I hate the 2 Hr. limit. The cheap Funai recorders (Magnavox. etc)have a 2.5 hr. speed which I end up using a lot because movies sometimes run over 2 hours. With the Toshiba you have to go 4 hours and there's a big loss in PQ. 2.5 is hardly noticeable.
