Whatever dude. It doesn't look like you help much anyway with 104 posts in over 4 years.

Looks like someone has an agenda here and enjoys putting people down....but anyways...back to the point of this official thread....the RX673.

When you do a network update and you have it on-screen on the TV, does it leave a static image on the TV while the update is being complete? Can the update be done while you watch TV (cable/SAT)?

highdefav1 - As you say it was a calculated risk. I think its fairly obvious as you are buying a 671 and hoping you get an upgrade. To be honest I would have waited until tomorrow to call them but the Newegg deal supposedly ends at midnight tonight.
So thank you for posting.. I was trying to work out a reasonable price for the 673 and you helped me with that.

In fact, he did not say it was a calculated risk. That is my entire point. And while you may think its obvious, others may not. Anyway....that's enough about that.

Hi folks. I have three equipments input in my Yamaha 673.

A Xbox 360, a Samsung blu-ray player and a Semp Toshiba STi SD 9070SR HDMI (SRTech) dvd-player.

The Semp Thoshiba dvd-player does not plays the sound in TV while executing in standy passtrough mode. The other both plays normally.

I checked the configurations of the input, changed everything but with no sucess. What can it be?

Thanks kerednai, glad I could help. I wish I could have helped more, but I only have 104 posts in over 4 years. I guess I need to start posting useless information and one word remarks to get my post count up.

On the inputs in the back of the 673 where the Xbox and Samsung are plugged into and work, can you unplug one of those and plug in the Semp Toshiba and see if that works? Does sound output to the TV when you hook the Semp directly into one of the HDMI ports on the TV? That might be the route to go and just connect the Semp directly to the TV and leave the other two hooked up to the 673 in passthrough mode, since you're not using the surround with it anyways.

Yes, I tested in HDMI 1, where the blu-ray player is connected. Connected directly to the Tv it sounds normally. Tested with another HDMI cable too.

Very strange. Maybe I will do this, connect it directly to the TV.

^^^

Good idea, connect it to the TV without the receiver. Some older (much older) players had only video through the HDMI. One option would be to hook up RCA cables for the audio. You can then go into the Yamaha menu and change the audio input.

Good idea, i had a similar issue and found that it was my old DVD player........ wife was happy about the B-Ray upgrade, but not happy about the upgrade to 50" flat TV as it was not compatible with the old one, but i loved it!!! New Amp, TV & B-Ray biggrin.gif

I have looked all over the threads and cant find the answer to the following, can any one help? i have an Iomega Hard Drive (HD) on the server which has all my music on which the 673 finds and can play with no issues;

1. how do i make play lists on the HD so that i can select them from the menu? (I use mac)
2. Is there a way of doing a search for a song on the Server, so i dont have to keep scrolling through all the 5000 odd songs?
3. Is there a way that when i select net radio that it plays the station that was last playing without having to select it over and over?

Sorry three Q's there if they have already been answered then please point me in the correct direction.... many thanks in advance for all your help. wink.gif

Guindalf,

I just bought a RX-V773... Any luck on the Airplay playing well with you Android? I have the same situation... Did you try DoubleTwist. I'm curious and will try it IF I uncrate this receiver. I heard from thier tech support folks that only Apple TV and Sonos was supported at this time.

Let me know what you've found if you get a minute.

According to the screen prompt you are not supposed to use or operate the RX673 while it is updating.
I would always download the update and do it via USB. There's a lot more chance of a network update going wrong. Either way, just leave it updating without pressing any buttons.
I'm just worried about the static image (meaning IR) being left on the screen while it's updating, as I have an ST50 plasma.

There is no reason to have the tv on to update the receiver. If you want to watch the progress for some reason then run the scrolling bar on the panny during the update and check on the progress every once in a while. The update shouldn't take more than 15 min anyway and the chances of ir from that are very slim unless there is something wrong with your set already.

I recently took advantage of the Newegg deal like some others have. I'm actually sitting on a $220 dollar gift card from a promotion they ran several weeks ago. I am now on my second receiver. The first one would not get an IP address no matter what I did. Called Yamaha tech support and they blamed the shipping. I've been in IT for almost 15 year so I did all the standard troubleshooting. Most importantly using the same patch cable and jack with my laptop.

Had to return the first receiver of course. Even with the discount, I think the thing should not be broken. The new one just arrived yesterday. Same problem! Either Newegg has an inventory of lemons or I am missing something. I did download the latest firmware update and will try that today. I will also try to set a static IP to see if that works. Just need to get the primary and secondary DNS info from Verizon Fios. Just curious if anyone else has had this problem of what appears to be a bad ethernet jack. I just can't believe I could get two in a row with the same problem.

I was updating the firmware on my 773 using the wireless adapter and it was doing just fine but in the middle of the update, I foolishly decided to wipe the front panel and brushed the power button. That resulted in the dreaded "ROM Error" message and it scared the crap out of me. Fortunately, Yamaha's procedure to fix that problem worked just fine. In the future though, I'll be using a USB thumb drive and I'll keep my hands off the receiver until it's finished updating.

I had a similar problem. Hooked up a Cat5e patch cable between the wall plate and the back of the receiver and it didn't recognize it. From the wall plate to my network closet, I ran Cat 6 and did all the wiring and keystone connections, so I thought I might have messed up one of the colors and crossed them when I was making the jacks. I decided to try another cable and I also noticed that it didn't "click" in the back of the receiver when plugged in, so I wiggled it a little and made sure it was attached and the receiver finally found my network.

I would try a different cable and just make sure it's plugged in securely to the back of the receiver.

Strange you would have two with this issue.

Thanks alot highdefav1. I actually have the same setup as you going from my networking closet to the jack. On your suggestion, I swapped the cable with another new Cat6 cable I had and also wiggled it to make sure it was really in there. I appreciate the feedback. As soon as I switched the cable I received a message for the firmware update. Checked and saw I had an IP address. In my mind I had ruled out the cable because it worked with multiple PC's in the same jack. Happy to have this thing working. Thanks again.

I have always updated via internet and never had a problem.

Not sure if this is what you might be asking about but I have been able to easily stream anything to this Yamaha rxv673, including my Google Music library in the cloud, right off my Nexus 4. There are many DLNA type Android apps around but I found BubbleUPnP to be about the best and, unlike the others I tried, allowed streaming of Google Music.

Also, when I initially connected this Receiver, I just happened to have a Belkin Universal Wireless adapter lying around, which works perfectly with the Yamaha. At under $50 via Amazon, it's a no brainer ethernet wireless adapter versus the twice as expensive Yamaha branded version. I even updated the firmware over wifi using it with no issues.

Yes, you can. It uses the surround back amp to Bi-Amp the front speakers which would then give you a 5.1 system. From the manual:

"When using front speakers that support bi-amp connections, connect them to the FRONT jacks and SURROUND BACK/BI-AMP jacks.
To enable the bi-amp function, set “Power Amp Assign” (p.91) in the “Setup” menu to “5ch BI-AMP” after connecting the power cable to an AC wall outlet."

Does anyone know what video processor this unit uses (Anchor Bay, Qdeo, etc.)?

thanks

It's Yamaha's own processor (I believe implemented in an FPGA), and is nothing special.

Only the top two models (RX-A2020 and 3020) use a 3rd party video processor (the IDT HQV Vida).

Hi, just replaced the Yamaha RX-473 with Rx-673. In the box there is only a small brochure and I was told to download the full manual from the net. I found it on the yamaha site, but upon trying to download it, I get an error message: corrupt file or not a Pdf.
Any of you had this problem (I want to get the English version of the manual)?
Also, any idea how much (watts) does this receiver consume? I found it nowhere mentioned. I know I've read somewhere that the RX-473 draws 285 W, but I found no info on RX-673 power consumption.
Sorry if this was already answered before
Thanks!

P.S. Just found out about the power consumption: its 300-330 Watts (for non USA and Canada receivers)

I'm able to download, but they do make you "sign in" with facebook/google/yahoo etc. first. Not a big deal, and once the download link is live, it downloads fine for me.

Are you using this link? :
http://usa.yamaha.com/products/audio-visual/av-receivers-amps/rx/rx-v673_black_u/?mode=model
post #1079 of 1852
Try Yamaha site in a different country, the download might work better (not all of them require you to sign in). For example, go here http://de.yamaha.com/de/products/audio-visual/av-receivers-amps/rx-v673_g/ and click on the Support tab. Under Downloads the English Owner's Manual is listed.

You'll find the power consumption specs in the manual when you download it. But these are maximum numbers and don't necessarily mean much (although the 673 will be higher than the 473).

My rx-v673 came with a CDROM disc that has the complete manual in a number of languages.
