I found an adapter plug, but I am nut sure what kind of power (amps) the "trigger" supplies. Is it enough to run a small fan? I have a USB powered fan behind my AVR drawing cool air from behind the entertainment center blowing over the AVR. Right now I am using the front USB jack, but would prefer to use something in the rear.

This is no help for the 673, but the manual for the new 675 is now on the Yamaha web site, and one of the (few) new features is a setting to change the rear USB (DC OUT) port from always on to switched.

My pleasure. It's so seldom anyone on these
forums is having a problem that I actually know something about, that it's nice to be able to try to help.

I was having AirPlay issues and found when I set the RX-673 with a static IP and set the router to reserve it for the RX-673, then it worked fine. Thanks forum!

Thanks for the tip about the video behind the net sources.

I ran YPAO today. In some ways it is really superior to Audyssey (Multi EQ XT is what I'm used to) as far as its tweakability. I don't think it did as good a job out of the box. It really takes the bass away which is fine at high volume levels, but at low volumes just sounds thin (which is what Audyssey's dynamic EQ is supposed to deal with). What I did was to copy down all the parameters from YPAO flat and then input them into the manual EQ, but I left the lowest 1 or 2 bands on my main L and R channels flatter so as to not suck so much bass from 2-channel music. (I don't have a sub so my bass is routed through my mains set to large). It was a little tedious, but I'm happy with the result.

My SPL meter and AVIA disc claim that the levels were set correctly within 1 dB and a low frequency sweep confirmed the EQ settings, I just like more bass I think.

My only annoyances are the lack of 480p analog video conversion (although there are ways around this) and the lack of a dimmer button on the remote. Overall not too shabby.

Glad youre happy with it. It only takes a few seconds to dim the display through the Menu once you get used to it.

Hey guys,
I am debating between the 673 and 667. I'm not really interested in the network features, but was wondering if there was anything else on the 673 that would make it worth buying? I am only running a 5.1 setup. A guy I know has a 667 for sale for $240.

No. Not at that price. I would jump on the 667 if it has been taken care of.

I know how he is and I'm sure it's mint.He just upgraded to another receiver. He also said that he has a Square Trade warranty on it until February 2014 that is transferable. I have dealt with Square Trade one time and it was a very good experience.

The mode button releases the "accessory connected" screen, but no navigation on the iDevice is possible. In this mode you can only start playback using the yamaha remote's play button and use skip buttons. On-screen mode seems to work fine but can be tedious. I don't recall this problem with other 673/773 installs. Could somebody check for the same problem?

Also the onscreen GUI of Network sources is sometimes squished off to the left. I currently have background video behind for these network sources set to HDMI2 (satellite)

Thanks

Anyone having problems with the USB playback like mentioned above.

Hello

Sorry if I'm really barking up the wrong tree, but I'm really interested in one of these Yamaha 673's to stream video and music from my pc via Ethernet cable.

I'm currently doing the same via a cheap media player box (wd live tv).

Do I need a media player on my computer to make this work? Or will this amp only play certain types of video files/codecs etc? I can't find any reference to this, so not too sure how it works. My current media player reads from my computer harddrives and plays pretty much anything it can find on there. Is this how the Yamaha will work too?

Thanks in advance!

The 673 is not a video player nor is any AVR as far as I know of.

HI. I just bought one of these and got around to hooking it up last weekend. It is replacing a Harmon AVR635 that weighed something like 50 pounds.

After hooking up everything, I ran YPAO. I'm not expert at setting up home theater. I don't know what a sound meter is. With the HK, I never ran any sound programs - I just played a little with settings and got it sounding to my liking. Like many others, I ended up with no bass. I fiddled with it and got the bass going and overrode some of the automatic setting, taking my front speakers down to "small" even though they are good sized.

I'm now watching tv, playing music, and messing with DVDs. I can't put my finger on it, but it feels significantly less "good" than with the Harmon. The whole system feels a little flat and lifeless vs. what I remember from before.

In addition, I have to crank the volume knob way up to get volume. It feels much less sensitive to increases.

Any thoughts on what I should do?

Thanks.

Are you referring to the actual size of your speakers? The small or large isnt referring to physical size, but the frequency the speakers are able to handle. Below 80hz for example.
Yes, my fronts are full range speakers, rated down to 28 hz.

My whole system sounds kind of uninspired and flat. I'm sure it's fixable and maybe my memory of how things sounds with the H/K is flawed.

Im sure its fixable too. Its difficult to help you without more specific info than "It just doesnt sound right.". Read the manual and keep playing with the settings. You will find something to satisfy you.

Would anyone happen to know what the largest amount of storage the front USB port can access on the RX-V673? My original idea was to plug an external drive to that USB port, however I discovered there are limitaions to the amount of stoarge it will accept. Am I limited to 32 GBs, 64 GB 128 GBs?

Thanks

I just replaced an Onyko receiver with the RX-V673. I ran the YPHO calibration and was reviewing the setting and made some changes. I have a 7.1 configuration with Zone 2. I could not find what the system set the speaker crossover settings. I manually changed all speakers to small and wanted to ensure the crossover was around 80 Hz. Is there someone in the settings where I can find this?

It is under Configuration in the Manual speaker setup.

You may have to scroll down through the list of settings for all the speakers to get to the entry for Crossover. I forget how it is labeled exactly, but I think it says "Subwoofer Crossover" at the bottom of my list in my A720, which is substantially similar to the 673.

Thanks. My fault. I wasn't clear on what I was looking for. I am trying to ensure the speakers are set to 80 Hz.

I have also bought a 673 on Saturday. I have connected my blu ray player in and need some advice. On the screen of the reciever it says hdmi1 which is where the blu ray is connected, why does it not say blu ray?? Also I had a denon 1910 before I upgraded to the 673. I had to change settings on the bluray player to get a hdmi light to illuminate on the denon. When a blu ray is playing through the 673 are there any special lights that should be on screen??? Any help would be appreciated please
post #1344 of 1843
You can change the assigned name of the inputs by going into the AVR's setup menu, which appears onscreen. You should review the PDF manual (available on the Yamaha website) to get started.
Oh excellent I will try and give that a go. Thank you. Do you know if there are any on screen lights that should illuminate when watching a blu ray??? Should I reset all the bluray player settings as Iv had to change things to get my old denon hd light to illuminate?? Just never know if I have got it all running properly??? Cheers
post #1346 of 1843
I have a question about YPAO. Is there any difference between YPAO flat and manual if I have input the exact same EQ parameters? YPAO flat sounds lifeless (no bass). I wrote the EQ parameters from flat down and I input the exact same EQ parameters into manual. The treble sounds the same to, but there is way more bass with manual. Does manual bypass something or is there an issue with my receiver or YPAO?

I'm not really complaining as I like the sound from manual, but I just think it's strange.

It's easy to miss something when entering the settings manually. You should use PEQ Data Copy to copy all the YPAO settings to Manual. Then it should sound the same and you can make additional manual tweaks from that starting point.
Haha, PEQ Data Copy. I never even saw that. I'll play with that tonight when I get home. Although I'm nervous since I like the sound as is. I guess I can do a backup/restore if I muck it up too badly.

Thanks!

Hi all. I am struggling to set up my new yamaha 673. I have read about changing the yapo sounds in the flat and manual but I think that will get me even more confused. I am running two wharfedale 10.7 as fronts a 10.0cs Two 10.3 as surrounds and Two 10.1 as sbl and sbr and a t1 rel unit as a sub. Just wondered if anybody had advice as to what I should switch on or change to get the best from the reciever??? Many thanks
