The "official" Yamaha RX-V673 thread. 7.2-Channel Network AVR - Page 17

They didn't get rid of Pandora, they just allowed you to Airplay from any device with Airplay capabilities. This way you can use anyones list, not just the one programmed in the receiver.

Any idevice can stream Pandora via Airplay. They just have to be on the same wifi network. The beauty of this is that anyones Pandora stations can be used. Not just the ones programmed in the receiver. I probably have installed 8 of these in the last 6 months and everyones loves the ease of use and Yamaha has the best App to date with ease of use and controls you can modify to your preferences. I have the 673, and 820.

Funny. I am also having issues with my receiver. It connects sporadically to my network either when being used or in standby mode. standby. I do have network standby enabled. Lately, it has not been connecting without pulling the plug on the receiver. Nothing wrong with my router. All my other devices connect to it without any problems. I have called Yamaha and they want me to drop it off at a Yamaha repair center. Before I do so, are there any others experiencing this problem? Any potential solutions.? I really bought this receiver for its Airplay capabilities.

Truth is that they did get rid of Pandora. If they didnt then you would not need another device to get it. They also got rid of Netradio, Rhapsody and Napster. It may be hard to imagine but everyone does not have a house full of Apple devices. It is disappointing to see Apple take exclusivity of yet another device and forcing people to get an Apple product to use previously basic functions.

Thanks guys, the 30$ wireless adapter did the trick. Now I am able to play music from iPhone and iTunes using Airplay.

If anyone has this Verizon FiOS actiontec MI424WR (Gen2) router and have issues with Airplay, buy a wireless adapter and connect through wifi. Airplay works flawlessly now.

Just bought one to replace my TX-SR707, which, you guessed it, just died.

Excited about the network capabilities.

Did you buy from Electronics Expo? If not then read the last 4 pages.

Hey guys, newbie here. In every sense of the word.

I am looking to get a receiver and get everything hooked up for the house that I am building and like the option to have dual zones and airplay. I don't know much about sound quality and all that...so I will get to that. I have read most of this thread and am thinking about ordering the 673 for EE. Does the same deal still apply?

I chatted with them today and the agent told me to call and they could offer a really good deal on the 673. I assume that's the $450 that is advertised for the 671? It seems the price used to be $389?

Sorry to burst your bubble, but the receiver plays only audio files.

What is the difference between this model and the A720? Running specs, the only thing I saw was component up conversion and about 6 lbs of weight.
So they offered me RX-A720BL and I accepted. biggrin.gif

$389 for A720 shipped....not too bad.

Thank you Onkyo..you might ask why "Thank you Onkyo"?
My beloved TX-SR707 has died just in time, otherwise I would miss this deal.

It belongs to Yamaha current top line, Aventage.

6 lbs..AFAIK, the heavier the receiver is, the better.

It also has a fifth foot, a second front control dial for selecting sources, a removable power cord, and an extra year of warranty.

Thank you Galileo2000 and JBWIII for the info. Will do a little more research and then decide.

No big differences between the A720 and 673 but the 720 is a higher model. At that price I would jump on it.

I think they ran out of 673s and now subsitute 671s with A720s.

How nice of them. And unusual.

Maybe Yamaha gives them incentives, trying to corner the market.

I've been looking at the Denons before I've heard about this deal.

I don't like Denon policies regarding MSRP and "authorized resellers only", so I am glad to help Yamaha. biggrin.gif

Is there a way to use an Android device to stream Pandora or Spotify (not just files on the device itself)?

I dont know why either but someone else got an a720 instead of the 671 about a week ago also.

Because he had asked for A720 biggrin.gif

And yes, they ran out of 673s, there is a thread on slickdeals about this.

It is a gamble at this point, but anyone ordering 671 from EE has a very good chance of getting A720 instead.

I see the price is higher for the 671 is higher. Is that why you say it is a gamble now?

I haven't checked the price lately, so I wouldn't know.

No, the reason I was saying it was a gamble was that they could reverse their policies at any moment and instead of saying 'Very well, we will upgrade your order to A720" say "OK, your item is no longer in stock, we are going to cancel your order".

It is up to them.

I really wish that all the AVS contributors /and I do mean contributors/ willl get this nice upgrade.

But yes, it is a gamble at this point, IMO of course.

He was given the choice of the 673 or the 720 for about $40 more. So you have gotten the best deal I have heard of. I cant imagine that they could sell a $700 receiver for $389 for too long but who knows. They have been selling the 673 at 671 prices for a month or so.

I have installed several of these (673, 710, 820). A few times I have seen some intermittent play over AirPlay. One time I had to give the receiver a hard reset to get it to be recognized on the network. On two other occasions the router was upgraded to a higher speed router and it solved the problem. The router I changed to was netgear n600. I had a linksys that worked perfectly on my system until I added network receivers. Since changing it out, no more problems.

That's a smokin deal on the 720!

I have mixed feelings about Pandora, Napster etc being removed from the Receivers main system. But I like the option of others in the house (with apple products) being able to use their personal Pandora stations via AirPlay. I really like the product line over all.

A tweak for Apple users that completely removes a nice option for everyone else. Kinda like you having to eat hot dogs so that I can have A1 sauce on my steak.

Has anyone found the correct remote control code to program a Directv remote to control the Rx-v673 on/off and volume and mute functions?
