I can't figure this one out, I must be missing something.

Use the Android app for Yamaha. With the app open while on the home's WiFi, you will see a music notes symbol in the upper right which opens the music library on your phone or tablet. Select your music...and BAM! playback will start automatically in the main zone. I think it is automatic through DNLA.

. Can you find out for me if Android, Net play, or Airplay will come out of the audio output jacks? I know HDMI/digital sources will not pass through (unless Party V773/A820), but what about Net devices. I need to extend a main zone with an aux amplifier/receiver using audio out jacks. I don't have one at home yet, but I've installed a few already.

access error when trying to access the yamaha control app or are you in the control app and error happens when trying to access your library. If its the former, unplug the router and or the yamaha. If its the later, check your media share settings on the device.

Perhaps you should download and read the manual. It is good to do your own homework. lol Good luck.

That's a great idea, and believe me, I did this. Except I did not find anything regarding this feature in the manual.

That was it.
All I needed to do was to set a new server on lan with the IP of my Android tablet.

Thank you very much!

Yes, the analog (not digital) audio outputs of the receivers will output any Net, internal or analog sources. So you can extend the capacity of the main zone with additional amps/receivers. You have to go to the Denon's 3313 $1000 to get an audio output for recording or main zone expansion.

Could any of you with good ears and a 673 put your ear to the left side and tell me if you can hear a transformer hum or buzz or both coming from it? Mine has a hum out of the box - a little louder than the Pioneer it is replacing but for some reason more audible than the Pioneer ever was while its in the wood entertainment shelf. I tried to listen to on at Fry's today to compare but the place was way too noisy to have a chance at hearing a 60hz transformer hum, though I could hear a transformer buzz coming from it. Thanks for any first hand reports.

I found out that A720 can be controlled from the PC/Laptop as well, although controls are not as sophisticated as in Android/iOS app.
I guess same can be applied to v673.
Double-click on the receiver icon in the Network/Media devices. The Yamaha driver will be installed and web-based app will be launched.

Is anyone having a connection issue with their receiver? My connection always gets interrupted during music playback only. It does this with my Ipod connected to the USB port, streaming from Airplay, or from net music library.
Not really sure if i have the same problem as you,but from time to time i get an "error -15000" when trying to do airplay from my itunes on pc. I reset my laptop and it worked,so it wasnt the 673. As far as USB,ive had a problem with it not recognizing my ipod, but after unplugging the 673 and plugging back it, i havent had the problem. What kind of usb device are you using?
Id print out the manual(if possible-138pgs) but very informative

My bad,i see u said ipod. Thats a little strange thats happening....i wouldnt think networking and the usb have to do with anything other than being inputs on the 673....id try to unplug the receiver maybe or call yamaha. Yamahas Customer service is not outsourced to another country,so it wont be as frustrating as most companies

Can anyone tell me what the latest firmware version is on the 673. Mine has never done an update since start up 6 weeks ago. Current version is 1.22

Thanks for any info.

Gents,

I'm building my first true surround sound, im upgrading from a old Z-5500 that ive had for years (still works great) . I came across this receiver and had a some questions before I pull the trigger. First off, Zone 2 (new to me) I understand the concept of playing 2 different types of source sound, however say I want to play music in my theater room as well as outside patio, can I do this? Secondly, I noticed this particular receiver has plenty of bells and whistles, however just not sure if its worth it. I have pandora on my direct tv and I have allshare on smart phone so I can stream music/videos to my TV (55hx850) So my 2nd question is, is there a comparable receiver that can give me the quality of Yamaha, zone 2 and the ability to control the receiver with my Android phone?
Picked up a 673 recently...pretty nice receiver for the money. Getting used to/understanding all the functionality is quite overwhelming. I picked up some Monoprice in-wall/in-ceiling speakers and they don't sound too bad. I haven't installed the speakers yet, they're just sitting on the floor. I figured I would test them before installing them. Like I said, they're certainly not tower/bookshelf quality, but I think they'll do the job just fine. I might pickup some Klipsch towers/center to use for movies, as I already have some KG 2.5's that I bought when they were new. And I've got the RW-12D on the way!!!

Has anyone been able to successfully play music from your iPhone without Airplay and without connecting the receiver to the TV? I connect it to the USB port and it recognizes the USB connection and then my phone screen says Accessory Connected on the Music screen and I can't get it to play any music...it won't clear the screen to show my music playlists.

I hooked up my router with the LAN cord and I'm able to play the music from my iPhone via Airplay just fine and also my iTunes. In reading the manual, it says I should be able to, without hooking the receiver up to the TV. It says to press Mode on the remote which I do and the Source and Receiver buttons on the remote light up, but nothing happens. Am I missing something?

Also, I'm running a 5.1 setup and I hooked up my speakers to the Front/Center/Surround Back ports in the receiver. For some reason, music played through the fronts and center, but nothing on the back speakers. And what's weird is when I turned up the volume, the receiver would shut off. When I turned it back on, it said Check SP Wires. I finally moved the plugs from Surround Back to Surround and it's working now...just in case anyone else runs into the same issue. I hope I didn't hurt the receiver...I'm guessing it is a fail safe to shut the unit off when it detected incorrect hookup???

And what are Presence Speakers? It doesn't really give a good description in the manual. When I'm playing my speakers, the lights FL/FR/C/SR/SL/PR/PL/SW are lit. I think you can manually change the SW setting if you're not using a sub, but what are the PR/PL (Presence Speakers)?

Easiest thing to do is run a digital optical cable from tv to 673. At least until you get the ARC sorted out.

I recently bought a Yamaha 673. I am running into an issue where if I use my iPhone app to turn on zone 2 and utilize airplay it seems to automatically turn zone 1 on to airplay as well. I'll be on my porch (zone 2) and come back inside to hear mustic blasting in my living room. Has anyone had this isue? Is it just a setting I'm missing? Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, KevinReplyQuote Multi 0

You need to make sure your TV supports ARC. I looked at your model on the LG site and unless I missed it, I don't see where you have ARC on this TV. If you do in fact have ARC, it's usually on just one of the HDMI connections on your TV, so you will need to utilize that HDMI slot to/from your receiver.

Hi Chica17, no and neither is defective. Most likely the receiver "Audio Output HDMI Out" is to "on".

- connect HDMI cable from receiver to tv HDMI ARC port (should see the letters "ARC" printed next to HDMI port
- power on the tv and set "SimpLink" to "on" and "ARC" to "on"
- power on receiver and set "HDMI Control" to "on" and "ARC" to "on"
- now power off and back on the receiver
- do the same with tv ... power off and back on
- receiver should be set to AV4 input

Hi

Thanks for your point...
LG 55LM9600 Has a ARC HDMI out and I am using the same jack connecting TV to receiver.

Thanks for suggestion, I did exactly the way you suggested step by step, "NO LUCK". Though when i see the T V volume control, it identifies home theater but no sound is coming out from the receiver speaker. in RX V 673 thread, one post I found it has same problem with 55LM7600 which is same LG TV. I doubt this TV and this Receiver do not work together :-(

More help, suggestions greatly appreciated. Thanks

Regards

Run a fiber optic digital cable from the tv. It provides a digital signal that is just as good quality as HDMI. Whether or not you will get 5.1 depends on the model of the tv. My LG LH90 did not but my Panasonic ST50 outputs a 5.1 signal.

i am having the same problem now. I had it working correctly before.

You have to innitially power everything up in a sequence. I had the same issue, read the manual about the initial powering sequence and now everything works like a charm. I have last years LG 65in version. When the Reciever is off the sound comes through my telivision. When I power on the reciever the sound switches and I can also use my TV remote to control the sound. Also, If I want to stream anything from my smart TV capabilities ie YOU TUBE, NETFLIX ect, as long as my reciever is on the sound ARC to the reciever. Very nice. It was a pain getting everything setup though. Just hang in there.

The built in EQ is the best I have ever seen. Not only can you change the gain of each of 7 bands like most EQs but you can also change the frequency of the bands. You can do this for each individual speaker. This is very helpful if you have different kinds of speakers and know their frequency response. For example I have 2 towers and a large center with 4 satellites (surround and prescence). The towers have a much wider usable frequency range than the satellites which really are best for midrange. The YPAO setup was severely limiting my towers (esp for bass it wasnt sending anything lower than 100Hz to my towers and nothing higher than 8KHz and they are rated at 37Hz to 20KHz) It was sending 78Hz to my satellites and there is no way they can handle that efficiently so I raised it to 100Hz. It was terrible. I put the Yam on 7 channel stereo and a Jazz station. Turned it up to -30 and spent about 30 minutes fine tuning the EQ and it sounds way better than any of the YPAO settings.
