Just bought a 65vt50. Using custom mode because the other modes weren't bright enough for us. Having what appears to be motion blur using the custom setting, but the problem goes away under THX Cinema mode. Has anyone had this issue, and if so how did you resolve it? Thanks.

Lucky you! I can't get Skype audio to work PERIOD!

One question Guys. I was shopping in a BB today and was offered an Open box 65vt50. I asked them to open the service menu to find the present hour usage . The geek came back and said the former owner had the set calibrated by BB and because of that calibration the hour usage no longer shows in the service menu which he checked.Could this be True or BS. Thanks Guys

I just had my 55" VT50 delivered today from Paul's TV. There is no plastic covering around the TV bezel; is that normal for the VT series?

Thanks.

You really should. The heat from the tv over a long period of time may make it impossible later.

Just a FYI to those who didn't know....
There is a new smart phone app (Viera link 2)
Seems to be laid out in a smarter pattern
2 changes I noticed so far

1) added dedicated power button to power off AND on
2) they took away the sleep function button off the "remote"

You guys may want to try it out

my 65vt50 that was delivered from pauls had some damage to the bottom of the silver bezel. A long gouge about 1" long. I refused shippment and they are sending me a new one. They offered a 2 yr warranty or $100 off to keep the damaged unit. It works fine but $100 was not enough and the 2 yr is really only one extra year. Did I make a mistake?

I too settled on Custom for my recently acquired 65VT50, not liking the appearance any of the other factory provided presets.

But as I did with my old Sony 34XBR960 going to "Pro" mode (as with Panny's "Custom", Sony's "Pro" starts off with FLAT/0 color bias/offset settings) I also turned off all of the other video post-processing settings available with the 65VT50, essentially reverting the set to FLAT/0. That means all of the CMS, white balance and gamma adjustments available with the Pro subset of settings on the Panny, are ALL still sitting at FLAT/0 as they appear when you go to "Custom".

This is clearly not ISF Calibrated, but from my own subjective perspective these Custom results are very satisfying.

I used the Spears & Muncil HD Benchmark BluRay test patterns to adjust brightness (to 56) and contrast (to 75), and decided the factory-provided COLOR=50 and TINT=0 setting looked good although I preferred GAMMA=2.4 instead of the 2.2 as comes from Panny with Custom. Also, I know that Panny's Custom starts with color temperature of NORMAL but I kind of mostly prefer COOL1. I definitely do NOT like WARM1 or WARM2. I just prefer a bluer white myself as comes from COOL1, but for some programs will feel that the slightly redder NORMAL is a bit more natural.

Anyway, in my Custom setup I've reset all of the other Pro settings to either OFF or 0. I don't know what your source is that you are complaining about "motion blur", but I don't have any such complaint watching HDTV or BluRay discs. Note that all of my source is being upconverted to 1080p by my Oppo BDP-103 player, to which my HTPC/DVR is also coming through the 103's external HDMI input, so 720p/1080i HDTV is also being upconverted to 1080p before arriving at the 65VT50.

So my Custom setup has:

sharpness - 0
contrast - 75
brightness - 56
color temperature - NORMAL
video NR - OFF
C.A.T.S. - OFF

Advanced picture:
block NR - OFF
mosquito NR - OFF
motion smoother - OFF
black level - light

Pro settings:
color space - normal
white balance 0 - all 0
white balance detail adjust - all 0
hue, saturation - all 0
color detail adjust - all 0
luminance - all 0
black extension - 0
AGC - 0
contour emphasis - OFF
gamma - 2.4 [changed from factory 2.2]
gamma detail adjust - all 0
panel brightness - MID

Again, this is not ISF calibrated. But it does provide the shadow detail and natural color (for skin, hair/makeup, clothing, etc.) that I want to see in well-lit "live" 1080i/720p studio white light HDTV programs and award shows. It definitely doesn't have a "yellow/reddish jaundiced" skin color tint that I associate with more "cinematic and theatrical 24p film" appearance.

I like it. And I can't recall ever noticing "motion blur".

Yes thats normal for THX mode which auto-disables the pixel orbiter.
Pro settings are only active in Custom mode and you can manually enable or disable the pixel orbiter in that mode.

Relax that's all normal. And as far as Orbiter goes I would not use it in any mode, because I don't feel that it really helps protect against IR plus it can cause "Motion Blur".
However the sweeper tool right below Orbiter is of some value.

ss

Sorry for the same post, but I am leaving my post because of the IR and motion blur Issues.

Thanks billmich. " VIERAremote2" on the app store. For me connected to the VT50 right away biggrin.gif ( using iPhone 5) whereas the last app took several attempts if it connected at all.

I have the same issue with the Skype using the Panasonic web cam. The start up sound comes thru the receiver but as soon as the call connects I have to use the TV speakers to hear the other party. The You Tube app works fine over ARC.

You would be surprised, unless you get into technical support and talk to a higher up, the questions you are asking are normally beyond the realm of their normal conversations at the standard customer support level.

I wouldn't MIND using the TV speakers, except that not even they work. I can hear audio just fine up until the moment the call connects. The instant it does, all audio goes silent.

Is there an online version of the full owners manual? I dont want to look at it on the tv
post #10341 of 12296
Hopefully not to long of a post, so here is my question for the Plasma experts. My question, would you go with TCP60ST60 (I can get it for the employee discount roughly 1400) or go with tcp55vt50 plasma for roughly same price?
Thank you very much for your response. We are very happy with the picture on custom. The issue we are having that you aren't is that once there is a sudden movement like a person turning their head or moving quickly, there is a jerky rather than smooth movement. If i change the setting to THX Cinema, that movement issue doesn't occur. Any other thoughts. Thanks.

Turn off motion smoothing.

I would get the bigger ST60 and spend ~$400 on a good professional calibration. biggrin.gif

But, that's me not you. wink.gif

Go to Panasonic.com and do the following:

"First, search for your Operating Manual either by Model Number or by Product Category. If searching by Model Number, start by entering the entire model number of your product as indicated on the bottom or back of the unit (ignore any dashes). If that search does not produce the desired results, try eliminating characters from the end of the model number until a list of possible matches appears. Model numbers with suffixes indicate color or year of manufacture and usually share operator manuals with similarly numbered models. You can even enter a prefix such as KXT, which will provide a list of ALL possible models starting with that prefix. Should you still have problems locating your manual, please try the Product Category search option or call our National Parts Center at 800-833-9626. "

The Operating Manual for your TV will be a PDF file that you can store and read on your computer.

Good luck Trying to find it. I did all that and got to the supposed site where it tells you to download the pdf file, but it isn't there. A call to Panasonic told me, "We no longer have our manual for download from our site."
