The only real advantages the Panasonic glasses have are:

1) They're rechargeable.
2) The sides can help block out ambient light.

Thanks, I'm not sure "rechargeable" is a plus, as opposed to just putting in new button batteries when you need to. No wait if you have a spare battery, and no extra charging wall units. But if I do end up with the Pana version, I then have 2 sets, one for a guest. Next decision is going to be the extended warranty for the 55" TV itself, I normally don't buy them, but this being an open box purchase, it's a roll of the dice, and very heavy to have to ship to some repair place if I ever had to. Always a gamble I guess. Thanks for your help!

I just charge our pannys off the USB ports on the TV. Takes less then five minutes to get enough juice for one movie.

I charge them when I get done each time. They last for about 10hrs if I remember right.

Yeah, I read that PANY recommends charging off the TV set itself, but that suggestion seems "odd", any USB device should require 5volts, and I have a ton of iPhone/iPad chargers that SHOULD be capable of doing the charging. Does the TV have to be "ON" to deliver a charge to the glasses?

Yes. If I remember right a full charge from dead takes about 30 min. I never let mine get dead. I charge them when Im done and when I get them out the next time they have a full charge. Which I believe is good for about 10 hrs.

I've had my panny glasses for little over a month and watched about 5 movies on them and they still show that they are 50% charged even though I've never recharged them yet eek.gif

I've also been impressed with the battery usage and also the quick charge. Pretty solid product.

Have to chime in. Had my 55 VT for about a week now. OMG so much nicer than my last Sony projection TV. The Sony was very nice and I was happy but damn...
I'm so glad I took the time to do the D-Nice slides and settings. There are so many options in the set up I would have been lost and it looks amazing. Also, I finally did some bias lighting and that makes such a difference as well. My only regret is that there were no 65" available at the time. I went down 5" from the 60" Sony and while the 55" makes me super happy I would love to have the extra inches! LOL

I'm all set for blu ray but what setting do you guys watch cable on?

What are some of the best Soundbars for the TC-P65VT50 both aesthetically and acoustically?

I was also interested in researching 3D glasses after I decided to get my 55VT50. I found a few CNet articles and this thread:

http://www.avsforum.com/t/1409490/panasonic-2012-compatible-3d-glasses-thread/0_100

The thread has reviews and discussions primarily about the following 3D glasses which are compatible with the 2012 Panny's: Panasonic TY-ER3D4MU, the Samsung 4100GB, and the Dimension Optics 3Active. The Xpand X104 is also compatible with the 2012 Panasonic TV's, as reviewed by CNet, but it requires a separate RF Dongle, which does not interest me. The big advantage the Panasonic models have (as noted in a post above, as well as in the linked thread) compared to the Samsung's, is the blocking of ambient light, which increases 3D immersion, apparently. I guess if you are watching in a bat cave, or giving them to the kids, the Samsung's would do fine. I have been following the pricing, for the Panasonics for around a month, and they are around $50 either on Amazon or ebay; no deals found yet. If you read through the thread linked above, you will note that Sears had the Panasonic glasses for $30 in January, and alot of people got them price-matched. Unfortunately, that was just before I decided to buy a new TV; argh!

As far as the light-blocking ability of the various compatible models, you can judge for yourself from the pictures:

Dimension Optics 3Active

Panasonic TY-ER3D4MU

Samsung 4100GB

XpanD X104

That's actually pretty true from what the delivery guys told me. Not saying that was the case with your set, but it's quite possible. I ordered mine "new" from BB, but ended up getting two already-used units anyways before getting a 3rd set that was truly new. So even if you bought new, it seems you can still get "open box" items. =P If you see no visible defects, it's probably fine.

I would also avoid any source with fixed images in that area of the screen for a few days too. If you still see no improvement, I would contact Panasonic.

You didn't say what kind of settings you're using. If they are high contrast and very bright, I would tone that down with something like D-Nice's settings for your display.

Tried to run those white/black scrolling bars for few hours and ran multi coloured slides for sometime too but to add to my misery last night when scrolling bars were running I could see 7 channels logo on bottom right of TV screen. I am very upset with what’s happening to my TV and I am not sure what else can I do get rid of these flaky things on screen.
Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks, Sid

Yes.

Please see the photo attached. In this photo you won’t be able to see 7's logo but you can easily see the blurry lines.
Logo problem appeared yesterday for the first time.

If it is diminishing at all then it will disappear entirely.

Anybody have an answer about turning on if the unit is cold? Thought I read somewhere it should be okay if it's only on for a few seconds just to check that it works? I appreciate your help:D

It will NOT be ok. Let the condensation evaporate first.

For a few seconds yes, then power it down and let it warm up naturally to room temperature. Why would someone do this ? For example, I have a person driving 3 hours to pick up a VT50 today, I would hate to find out the unit has issues after he drives all this way and then home. A few moments will not hurt anything and save a 6 hour round trip.........

Thank you sir, I tried to quote my original post but must have messed it up. I ordered my TV online. The vendor will only accept a return if the TV is inspected at shipment and has an issue. Otherwise they want me to deal with Panasonic. Just want to make sure it's all good before I sign for it.

Just got my new 65"VT50 delivered. Had the white glove inside delivery. They opened the box, plugged it in and bzzzzzzzz, bzzzzzzzzz, no picture did this for 5 - 10 seconds everytime. I of course did not accept it and have to wait for a replacement. I guess maybe 2 weeks frown.gif. My questions are this... 1) has anyone ever had something like this happen? 2) when the plug it in (no cable) what is going to show up. 3) any suggestions of what to look for once they bring new the next one. I'm a bit gun shy now, but know these things happen. The place I bought it from promptly sent me an order confirmation for the replacement after I called them so that was encouraging. Thank You!!

You should see the "no signal" message.

Have an SD card or USB drive with slides (or just general pictures) and slap that in and run a slideshow. That will at least let you know that the panel can display pictures. Pretty much everything but the panel itself can be swapped out on a service call, so if (for example) the tuner didn't work but everything else did, you don't need to know that right away, and it's easy to replace under warranty.

I have the exact same thing going on with my set and i've just kind of taken it as a normal part of the filter. I can usually only see it on a white background. I've had my set since October and it's been on for 300 hours or so (I don't use it heavily). If you follow up through panasonic or if it goes away, let me know.

CANNOT RUN JPEG SLIDESHOW!

I'm having a rough time with JPEG photo viewing on a two different "standard" USB sticks. Details below.

I found and downloaded D-Nice's JPEG photos. I'm on an Apple Mac computer, which may or may not be the issue.

D-Nice's JPEG photos are 13 all together, but when I plug in the stick, I get a total of 21, 8 of them are NOT viewable, and therefore I cannot "run" a slideshow.

I've kept this as simple as I could to trouble shoot. Two different memory sticks, formatted "FAT32", one I even formatted in "Parallels Desktop", on Windows XP, using an HP USB format utility, as yet another test. Made NO difference.

On the Mac, I am able to temporarily view "invisible" files, and there are NO invisible JPEGS, but I've even tried deleting two of the three invisible MAC files (all Macs have these in every folder) from the same and only folder with the photos on the USB stick, (you can not delete the invisible trash file). This did NOT work.

After mounting the USB stick on the 55" VT50, and using the "INFO" button on the files that won't play (8 of 21 total, there is really only supposed to be 13), they show the name as example:

"._Pattern_01" and the proper file name should be: "Pattern_01.jpg".

The difference of course being the addition of "._" in front of the file name. Don't see any of these (8) when looking at the same folder on the Mac, just the 13 properly named files.

The info button on the Display, also shows the "working" files NOT showing the date, neither do the ones that don't work/play, but the files that DO work/play show "SIZE=1920x1080", the ones that DON'T work/play do NOT show any files size.

The other oddity is I'm not getting 2x as many files, seeing 21, not 26. So there is not a "even" duplication of the original 13 either.

This is making me crazy. These invisible, mystery "bad" photo files keep showing up, and I've tried two different brand USB sticks, one is a 1 GB, the other a 16 GB, so I don't believe it's the sticks, and of course FAT32 is supposedly the proper format for them. I believe most are using Windows to begin with, and can only assume so far it's because I'm on a Mac, but cannot find any logic as to why something as simple as copying 13 photos to the USB stick is failing this way. Since no one has mentioned this as far as I can find, I know the original files must be fine, so I'm sure it's a computer issue or a formatting issue. Writing in case anyone else has seen this behavior before? If there is a better thread to post this, let me know. Thanks!
