Well i have a GT50 so i have a sense of what it should look like when it's functioning properly. The colors are basically massively out of whack with lots of halos in the dark scenes. Just doesn't seem like a settings issue.
Do you have the TV hooked up via component by any chance?
I don't trust "price drops." Best Buy had the 65" VT50 "on sale" (about $400 off MSRP) ending Dec 31. Went back after the 1st and it was lowered another $400. Go figure.
It's a nice mount, and has a built in level.. it brings the tv about an inch and half from the wall..The power plug does stick out a bit but this mount clears it fine without any mods..
I know running the slides for "aging" before calibration isn't always considered necessary by most, but I plan on doing it when I receive my ST50 in a couple days just because I'm overly cautious with anything that costs me more than $30. I have one question though, will calibrating the TV before running slides for a "break in" period make any difference to the end result? Is there a reason you are supposed to "break it in" BEFORE running them?
Greedings from finland!
I just bought EU version of tx-p65vt50e and now i'm shocked.
What have they been thinking whn locking "panel brightness" low on eu models without posibility to adjust it??
Is there any way to force Us firmware to Eu model or "unlock" setting from service menu?
I spend last night calibrating tv and result is fine except picture is waaay too dim.. Very very dissapointing.

I dont think they had a choice with energy requirements in certain countries. Panasonic EU and Panasonic NA do things completely different and do not answer to each other.

A plasma changes most rapidly when it's new. If you calibrate before you've used the TV for a reasonable amount of time, your work will be effected by those changes. That's costly if you're paying for a quality professional calibration. If it's just your own time, I'd wait anyway. What's the rush?

By "them" are you referring to the slides? The only reason for running the slides is to mimic D-Nice's exact procedure if you are going to use his settings. One thing is almost certain, if you go into the menus for an extended period of time to adjust your settings, there is a good chance your screen will retain the word MENU for a good while.
It's almost 2 AM where I am, so I can't go into more detail. It seems to me that there is some confusion about what the slides are for and what "break-in" refers to. In fact, there is nothing wrong with using your TV for a few hundred hours before you worry about calibration or changing settings. Just be sure to mix up the type of source material you watch, and avoid leaving the same fixed image on your screen for long periods of time. You can also hold of on the brightest mods too.

You should have been able to get a check for $400 then.

Panasonic support answered pretty fast.
They said that limiting "panel brightness" setting in safety precaution, because this setting could damage panel if handlet without care (WHAT?)..
Support tech also said that pro calibrators have access codes to adjust panel brighness on EU models? So if there is such code, could someone (ProCal with codes) PLEASE pm it to me.
If panel brighness could damage plasma panel, why setting in availeble on us models? Maybe panasonic has decide that we (european idiots) are too stubid to handle our plasmas.

Ours may be brighter than the EU displays, but you're still likely to want them brighter for a bright room setting.
I'm still hoping that someone would find a hack to the ABL (automatic brightness limiter).
Sorry for the late response if someone already answered
I got a Bluetooth keyboard that is advertised in the Viera store, it functions fine, except that our tv's dont support the mouse function, so the track-ball feature on the keyboard is inoperable
The trackball does work when the keyboard is hooked up to my ps3, so I do know it works Edited by billmich - 3/19/13 at 7:01am
Are the settings the default settings in Jeff's pre calibration report?
Anyway my point is that these VT50's in the right modes are fairly close and for the most part within specs.
Look at the pre and post numbers and grafts, not a big difference. And Jeff as always did a nice job with your calibration,
ss
I was using the D-Nice recommended setting following 120 hours of panel prep with the slides. You're right that there doesn't appear to be a huge difference in the graphs, but the picture is noticeably better post-calibration. Prior to the calibration, skin tones looked very red and unnatural to me, and now they look normal.
Over the weekend I had my first experience with noticeable IR. I was watching the Golf Channel and NBC coverage of the PGA Tour event in Tampa for a few hours. The two channels use a combined GC/NBC logo, which was noticeable onscreen later when watching other channels. I put on a couple of full screen HD movies on channels with no logos (and ran the scroll bar once) and it is fading.
I have the viera app on my iPhone 5, but couldn't get the keyboard to transmit to the TV. What I missing? Everything else seems to work as far as I know except the keyboard.
Ok so my pink screen has at least temporarily been resolved. Btw I also had that terrible buzzing fan like noise when it happened. I called Panasonic and they had me do a factory reset and it completely fixed everything..... But why did it happen in the first place? Bought a 3 yr square trade warranty just in case.
Can someone enlighten a fresh starter whether modern HDTV plasma panels are capable of reproducing AVC-encoded video with 10-bit profile (from PC)? My understanding is that currently there are only few PC monitor models on the market that are capable of doing that... or else I'm very much mistaken?
hf
The reason I'm asking is because official specification for VT50B model sheds no light on such technical intricaces whatsoever, albeit I've been told by someone recently that Pani's European lineup for 2012 is in fact capable of reproducing both 8- and true 10-bit video in "Prof" mode. My understanding is that any manufacturer that had implemented such a feature into their consumer TV lineup should be bolsting about it from any corner, unlike Panasonic.

I fired up the vt50 last night and since the box looked like it had been open, I checked the hours. It said 48. Now I can't remember if that was minutes or hours, and I put the tv back in the box until I get the mount.
Does the service menu show minutes, or just hours?
======================================
[EDIT]
This post says it shows hours and minutes. Can anyone confirm?
1. Enter Service Menu (Hold Vol. - down on the TV while pressing the INFO button on the remote 3 times).
2. Press the {2} button on the remote 1 time, to go to SRV-TOOL.
3. Press the {OK} button. A blue grid will appear with the following information.
TD2Mictocode: 81c00011
Flash ROM: 1-227E
PTCT :00.00.00.00.00
4. Cursor down to the PTCT :00.00.00.00.00 line and then cursor over to the right to highlight the empty box.
5. Press and hold the {MUTE} button on the remote for 3 seconds.
The TIME / COUNT info will be displayed in Hours and Minutes of Operation.
6. To exit, press and hold the {POWER} button on the TV for 2 seconds.
The display will re-start by itself. Edited by M3 Pete - 3/19/13 at 11:09am

Interesting conclusion to my TV dilema. First thanks to everybody that pitched in trying to help me problem solve the issue. Just one of the reasons this forum is such a valuable resource. I have another thread going in the Marantz forum about my pre which isn't outputting sound. While on a tech support call with Marantz i brought up the TV issue an asked if the sound portion of the pre is screwed up could it also be messing up the picture, he said it could be and suggesting going source directly into the TV to find out. Obvious, but didn't occur to me. So i plugged my blu-ray player directly into the TV and viola perfect picture. So thankfully i'm only dealing with a defective pre. Since it's last years model i have to choose between trading for a open box or upgrading to the current model for more cash. Blah decisions! And again, thank you!
