Its so unlikely that turning the pixel orbiter off will help smooth motion that it is barely worth considering. Changing the Contrast setting may help too but its unlikely. rolleyes.gif

not that it helps with motion, but I have had one instance where I turned it off because I noticed the screen jittering from it. It was in generation kill where they had a lot of black backrounds in desert nights and you would have these close ups where they are talking and you would see the faces shift unnaturally.

I'm watching a 1080i baseball game today. No motion blur bothering me. Have to see what that NCAA game on CBS looks like later

Thx.

Still seeing motion blur on the BB court on CBS. Seems most prevalent when a player changes direction quickly. Ball movement or a player running straight down the court is ok. Certainly looks to me like sometimes the TV just cannot keep up.

Something is wrong on your end, I'm watching the NCAA right now on my GT50, No motion blur. I am watching it on TSN2 ( Canadian Cisco optic cable HD)

Must be the CBS station then. Every NCAA game I watched on CBS looked blurry. The other games on TBS, TNT, ect looked fine

Sure would be nice to know what is up.

This discussion came up with a friend of mine yesterday and he has the fortunate ability to switch providers. While watching the game, he was watching CBSfrom Directv initially and found the blur problem on his tv to a horrid level. He switched over to WOW cable and turned on CBS and the picture was glorious, no blur. He thought it was his cables so he switched the hd/Dvr's hdmi cables between the two companies and found the same result. The only thing we could come to determine is that the "feed" that directv is sending to us is garbage?

I was at another buddies house on Saturday and he has Comcast. Watched the NCAA basketball games there and we thought the picture looked like crap too, blur.

Anyway, Michigan should have won that game last night. GO BLUE!!

What CBS affiliate are/were you watching? How may sub channels do they have?

CANNOT TURN ON (power on) Viera VT50 with iphone app Viera Remote2

I tried to connect it via ethernet wire, reset the router, re-pair the TV with iphone Viera remote app2, and it still works the same:

when it is on i see this icon

when i swith it off

and i'm not able to turn it on

should i see this icon right?

I also tried to tweak the power saving options of the tv, thinking that those might put the network card on/off.

Any other advice please?

Thanks

I'm in southeast Michigan and I have comcast cable. How would I determine how many sub channels are used?

What about the people who report that it makes a difference for them?

Unlikely is a fine word and can include a wide range of possibilities, but you wrote "so unlikely that turning the pixel orbiter off will help smooth motion that it is barely worth considering". DLP projection displays caused a very small percentage of people to see rainbows when an object was in motion. Some of the people who saw them couldn't believe that everyone wasn't seeing the rainbows to the extent that they would use words like "That must be a lie". Some of the people who didn't see them thought the ones who did were nuts. That debate was taking place here at AVS in an environment where there was a U. S. Navy white paper on the use of DLP technology in their fighter aircraft. The Navy's conclusion was to reject DLP technology because a small minority, probably under five percent, of there pilots would see rainbows.

Turning the orbiter off is a simple and very easy test to do. For those with the problem "barely worth considering" is probably worth the try. smile.gif

One additional thing to know about the orbiter is that some people report that they can see it in action when it's turned on. Since I can't tell if the orbiter is on, I can't be sure what they are seeing.

Not saying anybody is 100% right, but when I had my Kuro's and now with my VT50 I always turn off the orbiter, and all other "enhancements".
On my source player (BDP-95) I set it for source direct and 4:2:2, mainly because I use only (98%) Blu Ray's.

I do not own an iphone but I do own the 65VT50. Your post caught my eye and since there are no other suggestions...you might try this. I noticed that you said you "re-pair the TV with iphone Viera remote app", that suggests to me that you are using Bluetooth. If you are, that would be wrong. Here is a link to Apples web site describing the app.

https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/viera-remote/id427126362?mt=8

Read the full description. It states that it connects over your wireless network (Wi-Fi). Look at the screenshots provided, there are no icons like the ones you have. Also notice the Wi-Fi signal strength indicator.

Turn off the Bluetooth function on your phone and make sure Wi-Fi is on and you have a strong signal. Remember your phone is connecting to your network, not the TV.

Good Luck. I wish I had an iphone to try it, but that should work.

I sure don't know either, but when things are easy to try, I'm willing to try them. Our Kuro has the orbiter turned off for all dot by dot (Pioneer's term smile.gif) sources. We almost never watch anything without 1:1 pixel mapping so, in effect, our orbiter has almost never been on. Maybe that's why I can't tell if it's on or off. wink.gif

There is a setting that turns on WOL (Wake-on-LAN) on the VT50. Should be in the Network settings. I haven't tried this on my VT50 since I'm using wireless--WOL only works with hard-wired connections.

I didnt say not to try it. My original post said "It shouldnt make a difference." If you want to spend a bunch of time nit picking a common sense post have at it. rolleyes.gif Next time someone has IR I will suggest changing the volume because "who knows" it might be worth a try and its easy to do. Can we get back to reality now?

I'm sorry, I have to LOL. BTW, I'd amend that to suggest they unplug their tv for 4 hrs and perform a reset for any and all problems. If after 200hrs the problem still persists they can come seek additional help wink.gif

Unbelievably, in a matter of mere minutes I've received emails from Samsung and LG asking if I'd be interested in heading up their India/South Asia call center divisions eek.gif

Hi everyone,

I recently bought a VT50 and i am kind of disappointed by the "flickering" especially in white background, like in old CRTs computer monitors with low refresh rate.
I assume this has to do with a slow refresh rate also (50-60Hz)?
Is it something which is known or can be fixed/calibrated?
It is my first plasma screen, any advice is welcome!

Thank you

I tried the wired connection but i cannot find the wake on lan option anywhere in the menu.
I updated the last firmware and have an european model (italy)

Anybody with the same issue:

CANNOT turn the TV on with iphone app Viera remote2

OK--I have the NA version. The European model explains the missing WOL--they are different than the NA versions. I sincerely doubt that feature will work without that setting. I also have a UT50 without that setting, and it's hardwired, but it doesn't have WOL option, and I know for sure that it doesn't work on that.

Unfortunately, probably not. Some people are just more sensitive to it than others.

its not the refresh rate, although what you are seeing is real. I found this article summed it up well http://www.tweakguides.com/HDTV_9.html
