I've begun taking pictures at specific times in the Planet Earth Caves episode. I noted the time of the evening and camera settings. I will take some more tonight when its dark to compare black levels. I will do some things like purposefully over exposing the image to amplify any differences in black levels so that we can more effectively make comparisons, given that both TV's are capable of producing a fair representation of video black. I expect the VT50 to trounce the 5080 in this regard. I'm also taking pictures of some more "colorful" bits to make that comparison as well.
I'm using a Rebel T2i with the Canon EFS 15-85 (not the 17-85 or 18-85 lower end kit lenses). I'm shooting at an aperture of 5 which will be reasonable sharp but still allow us to capture adequate light in the various conditions.
I'm shooting in RAW and exporting via Lightroom. Any whitebalance adjustments will be applied to BOTH pictures in the same fashion to ensure adequate comparison.

I love the idea, and I'll anxiously await your findings, but be ready for the those who say comparing a new, uncalibrated set to a broken in, calibrated one is apples to oranges. Any chance we could get your initial review and another in 30 days or so after it's more "equal"?
