Yep, I stand corrected. I misread the specs sheet. It is in fact limited to 50". While I figured that the larger screens would wobble more or have difficulty offering a large degree of swivel I'm not fully understanding why the swivel is limited only to the ST and GT line?

I'm looking forward to a proper review of the US VT50. Specifically I'm interested to know the MLL to see how much it separates itself from the UT/ST50 regarding blacks.
Me too. From what I've read, the small issues that the U.K. reviewers had seem to not be an issue in North America releases, such as brightness limitations, and 50Hz playback, because 50Hz is only PAL broadcasts, I believe. The only place I could see a reviewer knocking it, is the price compared to the ST50 which has a pretty darn good picture too, just not all the other goodies the VT50 has.

I read in german forums, that the VT50 still has noticable linebleeding, just like last yeras model.

Would you people do me a favor and take a look at these "green screens" that are always at the start of US movie trailers?

Many have also found the chrome trim on the GT too distracting and cheap looking.

Your saying half the features, it's more like 3 compared to the GT50 Can you explain how does 96Hz benefit someone and what difference it really makes? As for the chrome trim the VT has chrome trim aswell. They both look high end in my opinion.

Ummm, that would be the VT dear where the chrome is more pronounced at the forward edge than on the GT.

All the bells n' whistles in the world won't make up for not having a lower MLL. I want to be able to pick out the VT from an ST in a pitch black room.

You crack me up!

I would like to see a VT50 directly next to a VT30.

At work i offered a customer that exact opportunity.

horrible picture but the vt 50 has better colors, brighter, overall a great set

Most would agree, but not all........

Aren't we all here day in and day out researching for the best PQ? Bang for the buck is one thing but this is the VT50 thread. At the end of the day blacks is still the most important aspect of PQ, as you know all too well. I would hope this doesn't get brushed off like the lack of proper film cadence lately on AVS.

I know everyone won't agree...but I'm just sayin'.

For anyone who is wondering about price, I asked at my local BB today how much the 55" VT50 was, and it's still $2199.

Do you think it will go any lower anytime soon? I know they get discounted toward the end of year but in the meantime would you consider this to be a really good deal...even in say 2-3 months?

Does anyone have any experience with having Geek Squad doing a calibration?
Bad idea or do they do a good job?

Most will say not to have them do the calibration and to have an independant pro do it.

There is usually a geek squad calibrator who will pop up to defend Best Buy and will say that it depends on the individual that is sent out.

Personally, I wouldn't waste my money on them. You'll eventually find on one of these threads some recommended settings that will get you close. To get that really great picture, you'll still need to hire a pro.

Higher Definition in Oakville, ON will also ship and they quoted me $3150 for the 65GT50 and $3800 for the 65VT50. FYI, Future shop salesperson confirmed that they have 200 65VT50's and 10 65GT50's in their system (odd ratio!) for the Toronto West district with availability planned for 3rd week in May, so other areas should have them around then too.

UPDATE: A few minutes after typing this post Gibby's called to let me know that the 65GT50 I had on hold will hit their warehouse TOMORROW (Monday May 7) and could be delivered this week!! So Panasonic is shipping earlier than anticipated . Unfortunately I had to temporarily cancel my order as the built in shelving we are constructing in the family room may only hold a max 60" unless we can work a re-design .

Thanks for the update, DrRx, it helps quite a bit. Now I know what kind of price to expect. And you better work that re-design

Is it worth buying the calibration system from spectra cal or hiring an independent pro to do my vt50 calibration?

Probably better to ask in the Calibration forum:

Whether the cost is worth it or not, it might be worth it to some people but not to others so it's a personal decision that only you can make.

Also wondering about this.

They've really got no reason to, based on where competitive models are priced. $2199 is a pretty fair value, if you ask me.

Thanks for the pic! The 30 on the floor looks much larger even though I know the trim around it is wider then on the 50. I guess it is deceptive since the 30 is a little closer.

Most of the experts are saying that many of the "added features" gained from step up to VT50 are also useless options. It all depends on the value of those features to the individual, and until reviews and comparisons are made between the three in real-world observation the true value is unknown.

Anyone know what the extended warranty from Panasonic cost? It's not easy to find on their website.
