I just received the 818 and have it hooked up with no problems. Loving the power that it provides at 135 watt / channel as well as the video processing capabilities. I noticed a difference in audio and video quality between the Denon 2113CI and the 818. Returned the Denon. Just make sure you dont pay full retail at 1200. I tried these both out on my 55vt50. The 818 i believe did help out in increasing PQ on channels that looked as though if they were highly compressed. Last nights SNF game looked amazing on the 818 combined with the 55vt50.

Maybe they all have a -2.

My first VT50 did not have a -2 in it and it was made in July 2012. They sure do have these in the pipeline quick, my replacement has August 2012 date.

BARAKA is a must for many reasons, 70mm to Blu-Ray is one. (comments on Amazon)

That is what i see when i turn 3D mode on, didn't even try my 3d glasses. I hope it is the panel though, then they'll replace it. Might explain why i need such extreme adjustments when doing white balance calibration.

Yep, 4-6FT veiwing distance is a bit close for a 65", I like a big TV myself........but that's big !

Or is the 50-Inch VT50 brand new a better choice, albeit more expensive? I have owned several LCD's and one LED HDTV, but I have never owned a Plasma. If you are knowledgeable enough to give me some good advice, please do smile.gif Thanks

I wouldn't buy it. That set, despite being one of the better LEDs on the market, has horrendous blooming during dark scenes.

I've sold tons of GT50/VT50 sets by having them side by side to the XBR 929 in the Magnolia room and showing how horrendous the Sony performs in dark settings.

If light is any issue, still go with the GT50 or VT50 because they do a great job with sunlight/ambient light because of their filter. The Gorilla glass on the XBR 929 is very reflective.

And I don't know where you're getting the display from, but most of the time displays are set to Retail mode, which means the TVs been put in dynamic or vivid mode and they've been consuming way more power than they normally would. So that 3500 hours shoots way up

How do you turn the pixel orbiter on? Do you have to be on "size 1"? Thank you

What Plasma has better Picture Quality: The 50ST50 vs, The 55VT50? Reviews I have read state they are equal. The reviews also says that the ST50 has a brighter contrast level and exhibits more "Pop" to the picture. Please help. Thanks

How about this: 55HX929 vs Panasonic 55VT50? Which is better and Why? Thanks
post #6231 of 13474
The Sony is a great set, so is the VT50.

-The Sony is price fixed and the VT50 is far less in price.
-The VT50 will never show motion blur and the Sony will.
-The VT50 is the best TV of the year, the Sony is not, for these reasons above and more.........

The Menu IR happens when you are in the settings too often when the set is new "under 100 hours". You would prolly never see that in content, but odds are it will never go completely away. Happened on a vt30 I had and was there aftet over a month of running a pixel flipper.

Thank you cleveland. I will let everyone know, if anyone is interested in my specific taste and strange picture quality prefferances. Im hoping the 55 is just right. Im playing gears 3 on my 65 right now and its an incredible experience. Love the black levels. Make the g20 look so bad. Its what i expected on the g20 at the time. G20 was always faded and grey in the black areas.

Im hoping the 55 doesnt feel too small now and really sharpens up some of the games that looked washed out. Ill let everyone know after ive done some testing. I can always go back to the 65 or go down to the 50 inch models. Gears 3 is great on the 65 at my 4 foot viewing distance, and god of war 3 looked great too. But with god of war 3 it has some crazy fast moving scenes which gave me a headache at that distance. So i need to find a size and set that is more consistant for my uses

I would love to know this too. I think it comes down to testing them since prefferances vary. I also have this issue on my mind.

I just got a 55"vt50 so I think plasma is the best but I wouldn't judge a LCD from what you remember in 2005 because that was almost 8 years ago and LCD tech has made some huge strides. It still not for me though.

Nice. Its so hard to tell in the stores. I have not tested on in home since then. But plasma has SO much potential to me and really reminds me of that glossy high contrast CRT image that immersed me so much.

The VT is also great so far with IR issues. I havent noticed any image retention on the set and I run it TORCHING at 100 contrast and 50-70 brightness for long gaming sessions and pausing for long breaks

The g20 always had some image retention which wasnt a huge deal for me but this tv has made many strides over that model. Noticably insane black levels, much less dithering at high brightness and contrast levels and not noticable IR to me yet. I do not break in TVs I just use them

Let me know how you like it and what content you like to use on it. Im anticipating my 55 inch as well. I have the 65 now and having a blast on gears 3 currently with my 4 foot viewing distance. ha ha Cant wait to run comparisons with the 55

Hoping it doesnt feel small now ha ha.. But just recently i was gaming on 50 inch which still felt huge for me.

I did have concerns about image lag. Im happy to report that after testing the tv with old school 8 bit nes and sega genesis games (the ultimate test), that I did not notice any significant lag. I am no professional street fighter player, but I was ranked 19 in world in ninja gaiden black so I take gaming pretty seriously and would notice if something was off.

Its all a trade off. If you think the VT is not bright enough, the ST is a little brighter. If the VT is bright enough for you, then you also get slightly better blacks and you also get much more picture control with advanced settings, if aesthetics important to you, then its a no brainer and the VT wins.

Nobody is going to have a magic answer. You now know the differences so YOU can make an informed decision.

Thank you. It is always so difficult to find the right set. I know nothing out there is perfect right now for all content. Not even CRT because of its screen size limitations. OLED I have no idea but ill have to wait to try those.

From what I heard the vt has better greydation than the st and of course the blacks are better from what they call Infinite Black Ultra Panel
