Ok, so I've had my 65" VT50 up for 2 days now, and I figured I'd post some initial thoughts. To preface, I've had (or still have) 2 2008 lower-end Panasonics, a Samsung PNB850, a Panasonic V10, and a Panasonic VT25 (which the VT50 is replacing).
PQ: Exceptional so far. Shadow detail (and depth/preservation of black) is the best I've had in my house--by far. It is substantially brighter than the VT25, giving it an extremely dynamic picture. The THX Cinema settings were pretty much spot-on for my room out of the box, with one exception (gamma), so I've moved over to Custom. I've got the basic settings dialed-in pretty well using a gamma setting of 2.6, and it's giving me an extremely exciting image. The greatest thing for me so far, though: NO FLOATING BLACKS!! (which I've been dealing with for the last 2 years). Motion handling, of course, is superb, as long as you turn of the Motion Smoother (which is on Medium by default for some insane reason). The more I watch this TV, the more amazed I am.
Design: The VT50, in my opinion, is the best looking TV in in production. The silver trim is not distracting whatsoever and really adds to the design (again, my opinion). Sometimes, I just stare at it while it's off (which has been a rare occurrence).
Buzzing: It's there, but the only units I've had that buzz less are my 2008 42" Panasonics. The Sammy B850 was WAY louder (even after it was "fixed"), and the VT25 was appreciably louder on similar bright content.
DSE: Faint--I've only noticed it a couple of times, and I am REALLY sensitive to it. My VT25 edges out the 50 in this regard, as it was pretty much non-existent on it (it was the only TV that I don't think I've ever seen DSE on).
SD Performance: well above average, although I avoid it at all costs. Better than my VT25 was.
Overall, the VT50 is spectacular so far. Panasonic has really stepped it up this year, resulting in the conundrum for many where the move up to the VT50 does not seem like it is worth it, given the stellar performance of the ST and GT lines. However, the 96Hz processing and design made it worthwhile for me (also, I want to keep this TV for a few years, so an extra $300 over a few years isn't a big deal, relatively).
