Compared to a LED hows the power consumption? Also how is the 3d on this tv?

Power consumption is probably double that of a comparable-size LED/LCD set. Not really significant on a yearly basis. 3D is excellent.

If you saved your Custom Mode settings as default via the option within the menu, will those get reset to factory as well? I assumed they become your "factory" presets.

When I originally purchased this set last summer I did not have much interest in 3D, so I did not have a separate ISF 3D calibration done at the time. Instead, Robert copied the ISF Day/Night settings he created over into ISF 3D slots for future use.

Now I'm starting to play around with the set -- bowl games in 3D perked-up my interest -- and I have been using the copied ISF Day setting. To me it looks as good as my normal ISF Night 2D viewing.

For those who have gone thru the process to create a separate 3D calibration, did you find it makes much of a difference?

Plasmas put off some pretty good heat. So be sure to count air conditioning expenses. But then again, you pay less to heat your home in the winter ;-)

My 65 VT50 puts out less heat than my LG 55-LHX which is Full-Array back-lit!

That surprised me!

I don't recall. I would write them down just in case. smile.gif

Much less than they used to, and LED sets can be warm too. Certainly less heat than my old Sony SXRD set...

space heaters try to be as efficient as possible at converting electricity to heat. If you used one to heat your room at night, you'd probably see a huge electricity bill like I do. The tv uses such a small fraction of electricity compared to the heater (miniscule in comparison). I doubt the tv is more efficient than the space heater rolleyes.gif

Everything's relative.

I switched from a 38" CRT TV, and I'm pretty sure that the VT50 uses less power and puts off less heat. Since it's bigger and looks a lot better, the lower power usage is a bonus.

Calibration in NY NJ Area.

I will get my 55VT50 tomorrow and i am pretty excited and also a little worried about reading some of the comments in the forum.

I have the TV in the basement, so it is pretty dark all year long down there and i plan to watch movies and sports.

Should i get someone in the Tri-State area to calibrate my TV or is that only something for people looking for the best of the best picture.

Also, is it really true that i cannot watch a double header basketball game on ESPN or any other network without risking a burn-in?

I am switching from a Samsung LED 46inch and i am excited and nervous at the same time.

Cheers

of course, i recall that the 65VT50 only started coming out in May of 2012, so with that as an example, you're correct.
Yet, with the press release, they seem to have changed the expected available date this year 2013.
Thanks in advance.

We tend to go by experience. February could mean February 28th. And it could also mean in Korea only.

The ST came out around the end of February. The VT around the first of May. I seem to remember the GT was during April.

Quick question: I want to get a 3D-capable Blu-Ray player for my P65VT50, but I'm wondering if I need to get one that has TWO HDMI outputs, since I run all inputs through my Yamaha RX-V3900. Will that receiver interfere in any way with 3D material? I'm an absolute noob as far as 3D stuff goes.

Thanks!

I just read this quote:

http://reviews.cnet.com/flat-panel-tvs/panasonic-tc-p55zt60/4505-6482_7-35567247.html

" I was also told the ZT60 has a slightly better light-rejecting filter than the VT60, but it was tough to tell any difference in the booth. Suffice to say I'm psyched to get my hands on a shipping sample, which Panasonic says will be in the April/May time frame."

Based on my quick search on the internet it would appear that your receiver, while being quite impressive, does not pass 3D signals. I did see one example of gaming in 3D working, but not movies. A player with 2 HDMI outputs (Oppo 93 for example) would take care of you nicely.

Or the pioneer I just got the elite BDP-62fd has two outputs and I paid around 289 for it new.

Yes 2 HDMI outputs you will need, I recommend the Panasonic DMP500.

You need to check the Yamaha RX-V3900's user manual or an owner's thread here at AVS. Sony, Panasonic, and OPPO haver good Blu-ray players with two HDMI outputs. The main reason for the extra HDMI output is to allow for AVRs that are not 3D compliant. The OPPO 103 is their latest model and it's outstanding, but it may be overkill at $499. It depends on how you plan to use it.

Hi, Does anyone know for sure if the front panel on the 65vt50 is glass or plastic? I know that they call it glass but? Problem is that I had some finger prints removed from the plasma panel under warranty today and before he put it back together I wiped it with a swiffer duster which I didn't know has a dust adhesive in it. Now I have a bigger mess. He is coming to help me out but I need to know if it is plastic or glass. The AR is on the outside right so I don't have to worry about damaging that. What would be safe to use to clean the inside of the outer panel. Thanks Scott

How does the VT50 perform in a bright room?
I'm a little concerned about the large window behind the couch and the French doors on the side

Ill post links so I don't clog the thread

My VT arrived an hour ago, its 30 degrees in Buffalo right now and the TV was cold when I opened the box so I want to let it warm up before I power it on. But no cracks or any damage I can see, what a beautiful set even when its off. Have it mounted on my stand and ready to go.

Hello all VT50 owners... I have had my set since thanksgiving ... Still love the picture quality it seems to be getting better with use.

I have a new issue and would like to know if anyone else has had the same problem? And if so how did they resolve it? I hope
the answer is not in this thread already, as I couldn't read the entire thread.... If someone has had the problem and written about
it here maybe they can duplicate it again... Thanks...

I have been watching a series called LIFE on Netflix and every so often the screen flashes a quick black flicker ... Netflix says its
refreshing the picture to catch up with the connection .... I have Fios with the 2nd highest speeds they offer...

Could it be an issue with the TV? It doesn't happen with regular TV so I'm thinking it's the streaming with Netflix and they are right.

Netflix has made me set the quality level on streaming on my account at the lowest level which I have done.....

Also I have a Pioneer TV in our basement and it's not happening on that TV.... so its a bit confusing .... Any suggestions to help
would be appreciated ....

Thanks

I'm not sure its going to hold up to sun coming through those french doors and hitting the screen directly. Only thing that would have a chance at holding up to that would be an LCD from my most recent experience.

Hi seabreeze, are you using the same type of device to stream netflix to both? Also, usually you can hit pause during the transmission to see the speed (Mbps) that's currently being streamed - I would check that you are seeing similar numbers on both.

Design
Minimal. The front panel is a single glass pane with an inch-wide border. Buttons for channels and volume are clunky, but you'll never use them—it comes with separate remotes for TV watching and web browsing.

Looks like it is glass. Not sure how to tell without touching mine (55)

Agreed! We watched 2 of the 4 quarters in 3d and it looked fantastic! Of course the other 2 quarters in 2d looked incredible as well. I am extremely impressed with the picture on this set from what I have seen. Looking forward to the X games in 3d as well which looked excellent on the advertisements. cool.gif

Thanks for the advice on the RX-V3900 and 3D - perhaps time to upgrade the receiver to something from this decade ...

Im very jealous of you guys. I was looking forward to finally watching a 3D game on my VT50, but apparently Comcast does not offer 3D channels in my area yet frown.gif

My Netflix does the same thing occasionally. It isn't a problem with the tv. Your post stated Netflix is set to the lowest quality. It should be set to the highest quality especially with FIOS.

I don't think my Tome Warner has any 3D channels either. I just bought Dredd and Frankenweenie on 3D bluray though.
