ACK!

So I noticed a dead pixel today while looking at the TV while running D-Nice's slides. It's black and in the lower right corner. Now that I've seen it, it cannot be unseen from even 8' away.

Is there any way to remedy this (something to run to get it to "pop" back)?

I bought the TV two days ago at Best Buy and it was delivered today so I'm well within the 30-day window. I just wonder if I should continue with the prep or go to the store and start the process to replace it.

For those of you who have replaced a set using Best Buy for their TV, am I supposed to somehow repack it myself or will they do that if they replace it (provided I hold onto the original packaging of course)?

Thanks for any help!

Best regards,
Einskaldir

Well, finally went and ordered my TV today. My previous Samsung died and could not be repaired. My 65VT50 will be delivered Thursday evening.

All the 2012's and up will be bluetooth so the 2013 tv's should be compatible with 2012 glasses. Pansonic is coming out with a fifth gen set of glasses to go along with the new tv's, most likely some minor improvements.

I read where one guy put a thin piece of plastic over the pixel and thumped it with his finger. It supposedly started working again. If you have the box, BB will take it. You don't have to re pack it.

Appreciate the responses guys! Thanks!

I just returned from my local Best Buy and I have to say, that was an easy task. I just snuck in right before they closed and they have me set up to receive another this Saturday. As was mentioned, since I have the box and packing materials, the delivery guys will go ahead and repack the damaged TV themselves so I won't bother disassembling it and trying to do it with my wife. I didn't expect it to be this easy to be honest as I've read about horror stories, although I think most of those come at or after the 30 day period. And to clarify, the new 30 day return period started tonight so it reset. I just wanted to make sure you guys knew in case some of you were curious.

Here's to hoping the next TV won't have any dead pixels (and won't be dropped 2 inches against the floor either due to faulty stand construction by the delivery guys!). At least now I have a flash drive that I know works and which I can pop in as soon as they unpack and setup the new TV to check for more dead pixels.

Posted this on the other-forum, but it's kinda dead... thought I'd ask here too:

Just opened my 65VT50 and wondering: does it come with just a single smallish multi language owners guide??? Thought there'd be a big-book-o-info with it?

Gracias

There's a PDF manual on the product page on the Panasonic website.

As far as I can tell, the PDF manual is the source for the "Help" text built in to the TV. It's good for quick checking of something, but not really for reading the whole thing.

Neither is good for explaining technical details. If you don't already know what the jargon means, the manual won't help.

I'm more concerned about getting extra pairs for my 2012 set

That's the best they have for the consumer. This forum is your best bet for legitimate technical questions.

I downloaded D-nices Panel Prep Slides, I copy them to a SD Card, but when I go to play the slideshow my TV shows extra files and when the slideshow gets to them it displays "Cannot read file". I formatted the sd card, I tried putting the slides into a folder and just playing the pics in the folder, I still get the slideshow trying o play these files and is playing this message. Any ideas?

They don't play nice when loaded via a Mac. Use a PC and you're good to go.

FYI, using a usb flash drive to run .mp4 pixel jogger and whitescreen wash. i did notice when the movie loops. there is a top bar that posts for a few seconds that the movie looped and the time.
BE CAREFUL., i did notice slight IR with the 1:00 time of the move in the upper right of my screen.

Slide pics in slideshow do not show the loading bar when they looped.

In the last two months I've owned both my first LCD/LED (samsung ES8000) and my first plasma (vt50 obviously). I returned the LCD for banding defects and ended up with the vt50. When I was in the showroom its funny how all I could appreciate was the brightness of my LCD. When I had to return it, I was quite disappointed to realize that getting a banding free one was impossible too. But having had both tvs in my living room for periods of time I've gotten to appreciate how much better the plasma picture really is and how not so subtle good PQ is once you've had to stare at it for a couple of hours with varied content. But I will say, my initial choice of LCD over plasma was based more on fear of IR than just the perceived PQ quality of the LCD. Thankfully I've overcome that fear, but recognize for different people and different viewing habits it could be a deal breaker.

The LCD had some serious pop on some scenes and I was a bit worried that I would never get that back with the new plasma vt. Now that I have my VT setup right I've got that 'pop' back. Although the LCD is able to produce much nicer brightness, the vt50 when calibrated seems to have the same brightness as my LCD when I had it dialed in. Where the LCD starts to fall down, imo, is in many scenes where its processors can't tweak the picture well (dynamic contrast etc) you end up with that washed out look because you are forced to see the tv picture closer to its raw form and you end up with very bad contrast since the tv is not allowed to cheat with its tweaks and is forced to use closer to its native contrast. One of the things I appreciate most about my plasma and its pq is that from scene to scene the colors and black/gray are consistent; the LCD was constantly trying to dim parts of the screen in some scenes via both software and hardware to the point where you would have quite a few cases where a scene is set in one room and when they switched camera angles the processors would make an object that looked light in one scene, dark in the other, and vice versa and the colors would be washed out sometimes, but then pop very well at other times (I really don't miss this).

Also, say you are looking at a field of red beutiful flowers on a scene, I've noticed on the plasma's picture I'm actually seeing all different types/shades of red that I never really noticed on my LCD/LED - could be that they were there before, but the improved contrast of the plasma is just 'highliting' it more for me, I don't really know except to say I see it and appreciate it. So if vivid means more color, then I give it to the plasma again.

So take this for what it is, I'm now biased by my LCD/plasma side by side experience and feel fortunate that I ended up with the plasma.

Hope that helps,

Excellent post. I really appreciate it. I watched transformers and star trek on the LED last night and albeit a great picture, I just dont see any 'POP' in the imagine. Again I've tried almost every setting posted under the official board. I could be chasing a pipe dream but I wont know for sure unless I see it person and take advantage of the exchange program and grab a plasma. I guess if the plasma doesn't satisfy me I can always exchange that back for an LED. Now the trick is which Panny Plasma to get....hrmmm. biggrin.gif

Anyone know what I should set my sony 590 BD players output to; 4:4:4, 4:2:2, or Auto? Would there be any benefit using 4:4:4 and the 1080 Pure Direct together?

Thanks, I kind of thought this might be the case, I will have to find a PC to save the files and try again.

I've noticed that my vt50 while on 3d the brightness pulses a bit and goes darker. Its not super noticable but its there. With my 3d glasses off I can not see it happen so it makes me think its maybe the glasses out of sync a little.... Or maybe it's just somthing these glasses do. It's not the normal flicker you get with active glasses because it happens every 3 to 5 seconds. Sometimes if I turn the tv off and on again it will not do it again but other times it won't matter. I'm kind of sensitive to any kind of flicker but I never noticed this with my vt30 and I have ut50 in my bedroom and I could not see it on there. Any help would be great!

What 3d glasses is every one using for vt50. I see conflicting reports on what the best ones are

I just got my first ones this week for the 2012 Pannys. The only 2 I know of are the Samsung SSG-4100GB and the Panasonic TY-ER3D4MU which are very expensive unless you can find a deal. The Samsung works very well, but they don't totally cover your eyes and can let external light in. They are also run on a single non-rechargeable watch battery. On the plus side, they aren't expensive and are very light on your head.

I may end up getting a bunch of the Samsung unless someone can recommend something better.

I was just going to see if anyone has used the Monoprice ones. I was thinking I'd get the Samsung for now since they are so cheap.

I have both. I find that with my glasses (tri-focals) that the Samsungs fit easier over my glasses. External light is not an issue in the evenings, but might be distracting during the day.

I cannot discern a picture quality difference between the two.

Those glasses don't work with the 2012 Panasonic TV's. Those glasses are IR, the 2012 Panasonic glasses are bluetooth-based.
There is a separate thread for 2012 Panasonic 3D glasses. In it you'll see my experience with the Monoprice BT glasses - they don't work with the VT50.

Also available are the ones from Dimensional Optics that come with a nice case and microfiber cloth.
http://www.dimensionaloptics.com/search.aspx?l=00010001000100090000

or from Amazon
http://www.amazon.com/PANASONIC-Compatible-3ACTIVE%C2%AE-Glasses-2012-Rechargeable/dp/B00A3FVH3G/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1358360453&sr=8-1&keywords=dimensional+optics+2012+panasonic

Don't know if they're any good (I own the Pannys and Sammys) so YMMV.
