Lesson learned, dont let the delivery guys leave until you have unboxed and checked.

This is gonna suck

Who delivered that?

Not interested. I prefer plasma.

Are there any settings anyone can recommend that I can plug in when I go back to look at the VT50 or is THX fairly solid?

Panasonic EPP had it go through a company I never heard of, NVC. I let them leave before unboxing it and only saw the crunch marks on the box after I had the top off the box and had a roomate helping me to take it out of the bottom of the box.

It made an AWFUL buzzing noise as soon as I hit the power button. I turned it off immediately and disconnected the wire.

To answer the Q above yours I don't know what Panny will say, I hope they resolve it quickly but as of right now I have a $3k+ boat anchor surrounded by big piles of cardboard in my living room.

The good news is I have taken it in stride without completely freaking out. Yet. What can you do really? It's after hours and panasonic has been sent the pics. I will hear what they have to say then and will freak out as appropriate once I hear what the plan is.

Default THX settings are excellent untill you break it in
And it only gets better after that

That's a new one on me then. Please forgive me if I have to see it for myself. There's one near by, so I'll check it out.

Ordered the 65VT50 from my local best buy store today here in Salem, OR. Had them price match Cleveland Plasma believe it or not. All I did was have them go to the web site and pull up the price. After a consultation with the store manager and a price override...my new baby will be delivered this friday! I cannot wait to get my hands on this thing and prep it for calibration. @ D-Nice or Chad B...do either one of you guys ever make it through Oregon by chance?

Do any of you vt50 owners know if the tv
Has a blue mode for doing a color calibration?

Hey all,

New to the forums, and just got a VT50 55 inch. This is my first plasma, i have always stuck with LCD/DLP.

Just had a few questions about this TV.

When I first turned it on today (after the initial setup) I hooked up my ps3 and the home screen was very noisy and the letters were kind of fuzzy. After setting the picture mode to "game" it became better.

Then after I exited the main menu, I noticed the image of the menu stayed on the screen (like ghosting), I was still on the ps3 home screen. The same thing occurred if I used the "e-help" or "viera" screens. Those screens would stay on the panel.

So I started a blu ray, and in some scenes of the movie (where the colors were right) I could see the menu screen still there. After letting the move play for 20-30 mins, I could not notice the image anymore (maybe a little). So im back at the ps3 home screen and start to mess with the menus again, after I exit, the images start to show again.

I also noticed that on the ps3 home screen at the box on the top right (that shows the time/date and some news and your PSN name). There are faint lines that travel horizontal with the edges of the box and continue towards the end of the screen.

Is this normal for plasmas? Is there some kind of break-in period? I apologize for the long post but I need to know so I can return this with the 30 day period.

Any input is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I feel cheated ......... lol ...... but then again I assume it was not a true price match after sales tax is considered.

Hi everyone,

I'm new to the forums and want to thank everyone for their contributions. I've been enjoying the discussions. I'm taking delivery of a P65VT50 tomorrow and planning to run D-nice's slides. Do you all think it prudent to run them for 100 consecutive hours or would it be wise to break it up. Cheers

Breaking it up is fine. I ran them at night when sleeping and while at work when my tv was new, other than that it was regular mixed movies and cable content... no IR issues.

Wow first report of IR maybe a panel to panel difference because mine seems like a rock.

As long as your display isn't in a hot room, you don't need to rest it. I ran ours 500 hours, non-stop, with the slides or normal programming running. I also used normal settings the whole time. Over heating is the only thing that could potentially cause a problem.

Under the conditions you describe, it's nothing to worry about. As your display ages it will be less susceptible to image retention. Over the long haul just mix what you watch so that there is a big chunk of time watching full screen (16x9) material without side bars that does not contain fixed images.

For now it will probably relieve your concern if you run a lot of HDTV from channels that do not have high contrast logos. Also movies with a 1.78:1 aspect ratio are good to get rid of IR. Animated movies like some Pixar films are 1.78:1 and will fill your screen completely.

As long as you don't get fixated on something like ESPN 24/7, you will be fine.

Enjoy.

Newbie here with a quick help request. I'm about to take delivery of a 65" VT50 on Thursday (Amazon) and I need to get a mount. Actually I already have a Sanus mount that is rated up to 60" and 170 lbs, and I was wondering if I could use it despite the fact that my VT50 is 65".

Assuming the answer is no, I've got my eye on a low profile Sanus mount that is only .55" off the wall, and I'm wondering if the TV's power cord protrudes enough from the back to preclude my using such a low profile mount. Can some who has a VT50 already look at the back of his TV and tell me to what extent, if any, the power cord nugget sticks out from the back?

Finally, I'd actually like a mount that is about 1.25" off the wall, but every non-articulating mount seems to be ultra slim these days. I have a wall niche and I actually would rather the TV's screen be flush (and not deeper in) than the wall.

Many thanks in advance.

I would turn the Picture setting to 30 or below and reduce Brightness to around 10. This should reduce the likelyhood of IR. The factory presets are usually too hot.
I got mine yesterday and out of the box MLL was .002
My gamut was pretty far out but I'm going to let it break in some before I do some serious work on it. I'm also new the the HSL controls so I have a lot to learn on how to dial it in. I'm used to the Samsung RGB controls.
I'm very impressed with the picture. Lot's of shadow detail and great blacks. I watched some of the new Underworld movie and the blacks and detail in the movie are great. It really shows off the blacks
The 3D is pretty good afik as I this is my first 3D display. I put it in THX 3D and was able to dial the crosstalk out with the tv controls. My source was cable 3D so take that for what it's worth.

I put in D-Nice's slides and didn't notice any uniformity issues with the screen. I haven't noticed any DSL but I haven't looked for it.

Does Panasonic really think people spending thousands of dollars for a TV would be happy listening to shatty internal speakers?

I will gladly eat my words if someone can show me I am wrong,

You have heard of Audio Return Channel? You should be able to listen to all of your apps through your receiver via HDMI, assuming your receiver is ARC capable.
That's what I was working with on HDMI 2 but it was not working. I just changed a few more settings and I am at least getting stereo sound. So eating my words happily. The arc was working for media player stuff but not netflix for some reason.

You got to my post before I could delete it. Lol thanks

I've been searching for an articulating wall mount for the 65 inch VT50 that will span 3 studs, but haven't found one yet. The TV will be mounted on a narrow wall that's only 6 inches wider than the TV with a stud in the center of the wall, spaced 18 inches apart.

I may have to buy one that will span 2 studs and mount it offset, but I'd really like to mount the wall mount in the center of the wall.

Edit: Some say they fit only with studs spaced 16 inches apart. I'm going to have to remeasure to make sure if it's 18 or 16 inches.

I got a tilt mount from Monoprice.com that spans 3 studs and I'm sure some of their articulating stands will do the same.

I mounted mine on 3 studs by getting a piece of 3/4 inch plywood like 60 inches wide by 2 feet tall, mounted the wall mount with 6 lag bolts to the plywood then 6 lag bolts into studs and even two lag bolts do through the mount into the middle stud. First I painted the wood my wall color, looks fine and it's strong I hung myself off it fully extended and I'm 200lbs and it didint even flex, I can post pictures to show you how it looks if you want. My tv rooms in my downstairs and the inside walls are 24 inches apart.

I was planning on something similar with my speakers, although not sure what kind of wood I was going to use yet. For the speakers was thinking of using a 1 x 4 in size. Going to be mounting 5 of these (3 above and 2 below tv) and they weigh about 16 lbs each. The plywood for the TV mount sounds like a good idea.

The guilt involved in the transaction was tremendous If I didn't need the 36 month interest-free financing, I'd buy from you in a heartbeat, Chris.

Check out monoprice's 5918 mount. We mounted my 65" last night, got 3 (16" spaced) studs, and the TV is .75" from the wall. Took some time and patience but it looks amazing. I went to Lowes to get some M8x1.25 16mm bolts to achieve that distance, and I think it's as close as you can get. There are included spacers and bolts that would get you about 1.2" away from the wall but you'll have to ensure they are not too long for the TV's mounting holes. A trip to the hardware store will take care of you in that case.
