I finally got around to signing back up for Netflix again yesterday so that I could stream movies through my Oppo BDP. Question, we were watching the movie Super 8 last night and I noticed on a couple of really dark scenes that I was getting blue banding running horizontally across the screen. The banding would move slowly vertically. I have not noticed this while watching TV or blue ray discs, so I assume it was Netflix related? Has anyone else come across this issue and if so is there a fix?

Hello All,

i have a Yamaha 4100 Soundbar and use the ARC HDMI out on the Vt50 and the HDMI out on the soundbar per Yamaha hotline. However i dont have any sound coming out of the soundbar. It switches automatically to TV but no sound. Are there any settings i need to change on the TV to have audio come out on the ARC port? Thanks

See this reply to the same question back a few pages on this thread.

Chief TS525TU. Not cheap, but fully collapses to 1.5" against the wall. And 25.5" full extension away from the wall.

Hi guys,

not sure if this has been discussed before, but my VT50 introduces heavy color noise in 0% blacks if the brightness / contrast settings are (apparently) more than this TV can handle... Checking here to see whether somebody else can reproduce this, or if my unit is faulty...

I've tested this in ISF Night, unplug all devices (make sure you're just seeing a pure black screen from the TV), connect to the VT50 via Calman 5 or ControlCal. Set ISF Night, 10 Step Greyscale (this prob doesn't matter)... I have these general settings:

> Color Temperature: Warm 1

> Panel Brightness: Medium

> all enhancements turned OFF

Now the noise being triggered depends on the Color space and Gamma selected, but for default settings for Color Space Normal and Gamma 2.2, set brightness to 55 and contrast to 81... if I now increase brightness to be 56 or higher, I can see color noise in the 0% black screen (the noise is moving on screen), you may have to move closer to the screen to see it, but on my unit it is there...

I was able to reproduce the noise on all Color Space / Gamma combinations... brightness and contrast numbers differ but it is consistently repeatable...

Can you guys reproduce this ?

Thanks.

- M

P.S..: Btw, the contrast / brightness combinations that trigger noise are no good for any calibration (Lightspace | Calman) I have tested so far on this screen, but it's interesting to see that if you over set these, noise will be introduced...

I bought the Peerless and it works great and very easy to install and hang the TV on. What I like about it is it mounts to 3 studs rather than two and given the weight of the TV 3 studs is better IMO.

It's the movie, not Netflix or the TV.

It's the movie??? confused.gif Sounds like a source problem to me. I can't imagine a movie would be designed to broadcast blue banding?

Try changing the settings on tv, from tv speakers to home theater. That will output the sound through your sound bar as long it is arc compatible.

I had my Panasonic VT50 65 Calibrated by Chad B on Friday. Chad was a true professional and very knowledgeable guy. I was lucky to have him calibrate my TV since I was not on his NY tour. He came out of his way to calibrate my TV. You could not find a more down to earth person. During the calibration, he took his time to explain what his was doing and he was extremely patient for all of my questions.

Wow what a big difference. Colors are more true life with accurate flesh tones and with POP that I was missing before. The picture is much brighter in both day and night, but with the same great black levels. I can now notice some of the background in dark scene which I could not before and it really bugged me about the TV. He also calibrated my 3D and what a big difference with great color and more pop, even the lady of the house noticed what a difference in both 2D and 3d, plus she was getting tired of me changing things during our TV viewing biggrin.gif My TV is located in an area that is very bright and I can view the picture even if the area is very bright without any problem after the calibration.

CHAD B tested & calibrated every piece of equipment and took 4 hour to do his work, which included ISF-Day and ISF-Night modes, as well as ISF-3D. The calibrations are definitely worth the price and I fully recommend waiting for CHAD when he goes on his next tour. He has great equipment and demo material to test audio and video, so you system never misses a beat .I can now put down the remote and enjoy the TV instead of trying to make adjustments all the time.

I also had the Free Bestbuy calibration that was given when i got the TV from BestBuy a month ago, and I ended getting rid of the calibration and using wmwilker's, which was very good. The difference with Chad's calibration is night and day with Bestbuy. Don't waste our time with than Bestbuy calibration, you are better off with CHAD, Dnice, UMR etc.

I purchased this bracket: http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=108&cp_id=10828&cs_id=1082801&p_id=6663&seq=1&format=2

6663 Adjustable Tilting Wall Mount Bracket for LCD LED Plasma (Max 165Lbs, 52~71inch) - Extra Wide - Black

It was a whopping $34.75 with the tax and shipping. The bracket is wide enough to easily hit 3 Studs, if it was just a couple inches wider it would hit 4.

It tilts, so it puts the TV about 4-5 inches off the wall. If I don't end up needing the tilt, I might try to get a new set of non-tilting rails that will hang on the same wall bracket.

I was assuming you were talking about the "lens flare" effect that J.J. Abrahms uses in all of his movies. Try searching that to see if it's what you are seeing.

Is one expected to tip calibrators?
I would think at $100 an hour that it would be up to you after you see the final result.

So this is my second week of owning my VT50 and I must say I love it. I have one question right now and probably many more to come. I hope everyone will be friendly and help me out and if I know or suggest something for you I will, thank you, What do you VT50 owners use to clean your tv? "I used Phillips Screen cleaning fluid and the pad it came with and it just seems to take forever to get the haze to go away after rubbing the tv with the pad for a good 5 minutes.

I ran slides for four days and now have 35 hours of TV and movies on my 55VT50. The wife and I watched Bourne Legacy (2.40:1 letterbox) Saturday night with zero evidence of black bars after we were done (running anti-image retention). We watched some playoff football yesterday and some other network TV as well as some more Disney/Pixar 1.78:1 animated features (THX Brightroom). We also checked out some of the darker scenes in HP Deathly Hallows Pt. 2 to see how well this TV did with black/shadow details--we were blown away using THX Cinema mode.

I let our boys watch an episode of Star Wars: Clone Wars off the DVR this morning. This program was on the set for no more than 25 minutes (THX Brightroom) and that Cartoon Network (CN) logo was visible when looking at slides (except blue). We ran anti-image retention and could clearly see it for the first 7-8 minutes, but the image was less visible when the anti-IR scroll was done. With exception of staying away from these static logos for a while longer, what should my next step be to help the CN logo become less visible?

Thanks.

If it's only visible when looking at slides, then just vary your content and don't worry about it.

I only use a microfiber cloth on mine, no cleaner of any kind. Others have said to use distilled water to dampen the cloth.

And don't get obsessive with it. Too much rubbing on the glass over time can't be good for it.

What if there is "Schmutz" on the screen?
Like from an errant sneeze?
Gonna need more than a DRY cloth for that
post #9448 of 12303
My advice, just find something to watch on tv and check the slides about 10 min later. It will likely be gone then. I was watching football and hockey on the weekend and Fox would have that bright Fox Sports logo up in the upper right hand side of the screen. I would get quite noticeable image retention from this logo. Very noticeable on the slides, and if you put the tv to standard picture mode, it is even more noticeable on the slides. However, after watching other programming for 10 mins after, the Fox Sports logo was completly vanished. So just try watching something else for a few mins and see if it goes away.

Just noticed that the 65VT50 is now no longer being carried on amazon. I think they are literally sold out and they are selling out fast everywhere else. Normally you have a couple of months to go through last year's supplies before getting to this end. With how good this tv is I can see why smile.gif

I have used a small amount of liquid laundry detergent mixed with water on a microfiber cloth and then polish with a dry microfiber cloth.

Those screen cleaners like the one by Philips are garbage. They are like a wax and leave a film on the screen that smears and is very diffcult to get off.
