I plan to play some Alan Wake soon so I'll let you know if I have the same problem. I have my 360 hooked up through an Onkyo reciever.

I have a 50Mb-down and 10Mb-up cable connection so there's no reason I shouldn't be at High HD all the time. I have tried both wireless and wired connections and see similar results. The strange thing is that if I use the Netflix app on my Panasonic DMP-BDT220 I have no problems achieving High HD with no visible drops in quality over WiFi. It's as if the Netflix app on the TV needs to be updated. Has anyone else seen this?
I am having the same issue. VT50 25MB-down. Panasonic DMP-BDT320 has slightly better performance but fluctuates between High HD and Low SD. The problem started approximately the second week in January. Before that it was fine..rock solid. The other thing that is so annoying is that when it switches there is a flash or pop in the picture. I also own a Roku 2 XS and it performs beautifully. When you play a stream it works it way up to High HD in about 20-30 sec and the only change is an increase in picture sharpness. I think its a Netflix problem. I will give them another week and then give them a call.

An update to my image retention post earlier, last night I watched my second NHL game on the VT50, this time from Prime Ticket (FSN) and the image retention from the Fox logo is worse then the first game I saw. I'm wondering if this is due to that image being on a few days ago, so now it's easier to get image retention from it. But if this is going to constantly be the case with it getting worse each game, I'd have to see what it's like after 40 games. I thought plasmas were supposed to be the best for watching sports, but if you can't watch them because of the scorebar burning into the screen, then what good is that?

Last month I had started to notice a green blotch on the right side of my 55VT50. It was about 6 inches wide by a foot long running vertically on the side of the TV. It could only be seen on white and grey backgrounds but could definitely be seen during normal blu-ray and cable content. I had to call Panasonic and they scheduled a guy to come out and take a look. He came today and told me that they will send the pictures they took to Panasonic who will most likely approve to have the panel replaced. Again, they wont replace the TV just the panel and that it will be an in home job. He said he had dealt with this issue before and that the new replacement panel should fix the problem. I'm still nervous it will cause another problem to exist once the repair is finished. He said though that if there is a problem with the second panel that Panasonic would replace the entire TV at that point. Good to know I at least have that assurance. Just felt like passing along my experience so far. I love the TV and I hope it looks normal after the repair.

Let me ask you this, were you looking for the IR or do you actually see it in normal viewing?

Is the anti-retention scrolling bar really that effective?
Or is the wow disc pixel flipper better?

How many hours do you have on your set?

Is your built in ANTI-IMAGE RETENTION ON?

Have you used PIXEL PROTECTOR at all?

This Netflix issue is so well known and notorious that there is an entire thread here dedicated to it but no one there can figure it out either. It all seems to be conjecture and complaint.

Yes, actually saw it in normal viewing last night, worse when you look for it on slides, but did see it in normal viewing.

Pixel Orbiter is on, all image retention stuff is on, probably around 700 hours on the tv.

Just curious: what was the build date of your VT?

It has a May 2012 date on the back of the TV. I bought it in July 2012 from Best Buy. Didn't notice anything wrong with it until I started messing around with the Disney WOW disk. When I first got it I had put in Custom settings that were listed on the thread and it looked great. Once I started messing around with slides on the WOW disk I noticed the greenish blob on the right side. And then of course tried to see if I could see it on normal viewing and I could. It really shows up on Apple commercials, etc. It could have been there from the start and I just didn't realize it until I saw it. Its not an "in-your-face" green mark but it can be scene once pointed out and the TV repair man noticed it immediately.

Sorry here is the slide.

Cool! Just got my Citi Card Price Rewind refund for the original two pairs of Panasonic 3D glasses I bought with my VT50 in December. Originally paid $79.99 each, refund of $62 each for a net of 17.99/pair. Not bad!

Hello wanted to ask a question to the owners of the 65vt50. I have been looking at this plasma and thinking of getting it. I am having issues with my sharp elite an am not sure what to do. Can you guys tell me what you think, should I just replace the elite or stick it out. My concerns are the retention issues you are all talking about and the DSE. I am also not in a dark room have two windows from the side but blind is always closed but still some light comes through. Also want to hear about what things you guys who have them think are positives and negatives now that you have them in the house and have been watching them. I really do like my Elite but have had issues that have got me rethinking keeping the set. Thanks

mad.gif I mentioned the same issue back in August on this forum and no replies??? I have a May 2012 build date as well,my retailer nor Panasonic ever returned my calls ,so I learned to live with it.That is until I buy the new PZT60 due out in my area of North America in May 2013…….I tinkered with my WOW disc as to make the issue bearable till then,PS I've already sold this unit so when the person that bought it picks it up,the old "CAVEAT EMPTOR" comes into effect.I hope the WOW disc helps:)

Go with the VT. My 65VT50 is in a room with 5 windows and performs very well. As far as PQ compared to the sharp elite the VT won the 2012 valuelectronics shootout against the sharp elite, pne8000 and other TVs. Plasmas aren't as bright as LEDs but when your eyes adjust to a plasmas you might not be able to look at another LED again.

I have a 55vt50 and 65vt50 in which neither have IR issues at all. As far as DSE I haven't noticed it, maybe because I'm coming from a pioneer Kuro in which DSE was very much noticeable. DSE on the VT really is a no factor I think IR is a hit or miss, I got lucky twice.

I have two VT50's that both do the same thing. On HD programming there is a small white dot like section on the lower right of the screen. I mean right at the edge, of the screen corner. It only does this on some HD channels, not all, and randomly. Ideas?

It amazes me that Panasonic wouldn't just replace the set. The panel and the labor cost more than a brand new set.

Panel replacement cost (user cost) is only $1600

Proud new owner of a 65" VT50 here. Is there a wiki that explains best practices on:

1) How to break it in?
2) Best calibration settings?
3) Settings I should use for a HTPC? It is run directly through my HTPC with Windows Media Center.

Thanks

Well I just got some disheartening news. I just had my vt50 calibrated on Tues and while performing the calibration the tech noticed that he could not set the (Gamma 10 point Adjust). The software would not work.
Anyway he emailed me today and told me that he had just calibrated another vt50 with no problems and told me that my panel might be defefitive and that I might want to send it back.
I don't understand how companies charge so much money and you end up with crap. So much for quality control just give us your money and we'll send you a headache.

It's NOT your VT50's, it the HD programming. I don't know why it does it, but I noticed the EXACT same thing on my 2-year old 65" V10. One pixel in the bottom right corner. And only on a half a handful of DISH channels. Don't worry about it. smile.gif

Yep, happens to all of us if you are viewing in "Full" with Pic Size 2. I've noticed the same from certain HD providers, and I'm on Directv.

Are you using updated firmware on your TV? There were issues earlier in 2012 where certain calibration adjustments could not be made as those adjustments were broken in the VT50's firmware. This was fixed late last summer I believe. If your firmware is up to date, then you may have an issue with your TV.

I too just noticed this for the first time last night on my 65VT50 when I turned on TBS and a rerun of The Big Bang Theory. I was worried at first, but that is the only channel I'm seeing it on so it clearly the programming.

I see it on ABC all the time. It is the channel too because its there whether I watch it OTA or on the cable box. I have an ST.
