I was trying to watch some live Youtube feeds, of the Cyclocross championship that was today. In the US, it was only on Youtube. I tried to get it several ways ran into an oddity on my VT50. They wouldn't play at all with the Youtube app, gave an html 5 error. I was able to do it by going to Youtube.com on the browser. Would this be expected behavior?

Sorry to hear this, actually that is a cracked screen. When a plasma is cracked the unit will not fire to the on board menu and will hum very loudly. Sometimes cracks in the screen can be hard to see.

Hello, I bought a TX-P50VT50 and got it Tuesday. Unfortunately I made the mistake of watching 30 minutes of football on it yesterday. It was a web broadcast and they had a logo on the bottom left corner . The logo was a blue FaceBook square with some white text next to it. I got some retention from that and I can't get it to disappear. I ran the screen cleaning program from the menu and noticed some retention from subtitles from the movies I've watched on it and that disappeared almost instantly. But the logo and text from yesterday is still there. Will this disappear with normal usage or is it permanent? I can only see it if I pull up a red image I made in PS in full screen. Can't see it while I watch normal TV or movies.

Buying this TV was a lot of money for me and I would hate to have been so stupid to have caused it damage during the first week frown.gif I've been feeling extremely bad about this and would appreciate any tips.

Sounds like your average image retention and should clear up with normal viewing. I'm pretty sure that's more effective than the scrolling bar as well, but I'm not positive. There's no way that any of it should be permanent, you need days of viewing static content for it to get to that point. You may want to lower your contrast slightly however, your panel is more susceptible to IR in the first 100 hours than the rest of its life. Generally as the panel ages it should become more and more IR resistant, but the extent of that will vary from panel to panel. I will add that, getting IR after only 30 minutes might be cause for concern.

I see, thank you for your reply. I will use a lower contrast for the next few weeks or so. It was using the THX Cinema preset while watching the game by the way. It could be that I was watching the game for 40-45 minutes come to think of it. But I'm not too sure, it wasn't for hours on end though which I found strange. But as long as it will disappear I'm fine with it. It is a lovely TV overall.

I've had my 55VT50 about a month now. I've been careful of the content I've watched - HBO, Blu-ray, etc. using THX cinema mode exclusively. I've passed the 200 hr mark now. A question for the group (sounds silly in a way) is it okay to watch the Super Bowl today without worrying about IR or burn in?

I've had no issues with my set at all so far. And want to keep it that way.

If it doesn't go away you might want to exchange it. It should go away just by regular viewing. If it burned an image in just 45min and won't come out you have a bad panel. Both of my VT50s had no IR issues out of the box. I would try my best to leave a image on screen then run slides to try and look for it but my TVs never burned even a light image. I'm not sure why so many people are having IR issues.

My old 50" V50 was not very good on IR. There would always be some IR after about an hour of watching something with a static logo, but it went away quickly. I've now had my VT50 for at least 200 hours and I have yet to see any IR.

Many of the people that have ir issues are looking for it. And I mean going out of their way and looking hard for it. Dhedlund stated that he couldnt see it when watching tv but he is so concerned about it that he is posting over it. It will be gone and forgotten before long but someone will still read his post and get concerned about it. Then they will start checking and the cycle continues.

I will use the TV as I normally would for a week or so and see if it disappear after that. After that I shall see about exchange it if necessary. I should add I have perhaps watched around 2-3 hours of TV since the incident so that might not be enough for it disappear? I ran the screen cleaning program for about 20 minutes.

I did not mean to make it sound like I thought there was any problem with the TV's. English isn't my first language and if it came out that way I do apologize. This is my first Plasma and I'm not rich by any means but since movies and TV-shows are one of my absolutely biggest interest I decided to get myself a nice TV. So naturally I was concerned given how much talk about burn-ins on Plasmas we've all heard over the years.

I do know that the percentage of happy users versus the percentage of users whom post about any little issue online is greatly in favor of the people with issues. No one should take my post as an indication about the quality of these panels. I'm a Plasma novice just looking for friendly advice smile.gif

It sounds like it should disappear so it's all good. And as you pointed out I can't see it while watching TV, only when looking for it with full screen one color slides.

No worries. You are doing nothing wrong. I was just using you as an example to make a point.

I have a 50Mb-down and 10Mb-up cable connection so there's no reason I shouldn't be at High HD all the time. I have tried both wireless and wired connections and see similar results. The strange thing is that if I use the Netflix app on my Panasonic DMP-BDT220 I have no problems achieving High HD with no visible drops in quality over WiFi. It's as if the Netflix app on the TV needs to be updated. Has anyone else seen this?
That is not unique to the VT. A lot of people have had the same issue on their ST including me.

I never noticed this until recently. My TV will flicker/ blink while watching Netflix. Has Netflix changed something recently? Anyone have any success correcting it?

I really think this varies between panels. I played Madden yesterday for about 3 hours or more and not even a little IR. I can't believe it. My 50" G10 would get IR just from the menu being up for a minute and you could see it. It seemed very very sensitive and actually still has a USA network logo which by now is prob permanent. Maybe it's a bad panel if its this sensitive but it's really a night and day difference how this VT50 gets no IR compared to my G10. Maybe my G10 was defective and didnt even know it.

I've had my tv for a week and have not been careful with anything, I did adjust the Custom menu with some settings but that is it. I watch whatever channels I want and have played Halo for hours on end and not a hint of IR.
My problem is the tv likes to turn off for no reason. I'm about to plug it direct to wall and seeif that helps.

I agree it's a hit of miss thing. If I had the IR issue I would go go replacement because last years models GT30 had serious IR problems.

If there is no activity on the screen, the TV will shut off in 10 minutes by default. If a screen saver is running, it won't shut off.
