AVS iPhone app badge problem

Thread Starter
For the past week the AVS iPhone app has been displaying badges incorrectly. For example, when someone posts to a thread I've subscribed, the app will show (for example) "37" in the badge. However, there is clearly only one new message.

When I launch the app, the badge fixes itself. When I quit the app, it's still displayed correctly. However, when someone again posts to a thread I've subscribed, the badge will pop up and say "37" or some other unreasonable large number.

Anyone seeing this? Any suggested fixes?

Hi,

Did you try an uninstall/reinstall of the app?

No... Figured it was some backend problem and not local to my phone.

But I just did the delete/install. I'll let you know what happens when someone posts...

I have had a similar issue. The badge app keeps going up. After I have no more unread threads, it will disappear, then when someone posts, the badge will increase in size from the last time. The badge number is up to 327 last time, and that was with 3 unread threads. The next time there is an unread post, the number will be higher than 327. For what it's worth, this is also happening to me with my DBStalk app as well. Those are the only two apps that do this - everything else is working fine. I have the latest versions of both apps, the latest version of IOS, and the iphone 4S if that helps. If anyone can help with this issue it would be great.
Thanks

Sorry you are having the problem also.

Now it's falling apart for me... I reinstalled the app and reset my forum runner password (and obviously re-entered it). Now I'm not getting badges, but I'm getting the traditional emails.

The problem is ... When I launch the AVS app, it marks all messages as read! Ugh... The previous problematic behavior was preferable.

I'm wondering if it's a Forumrunner issue since all my other apps are working fine. It is odd though how the badge number will be accurate when logged into the app, but once I log out it goes bad again. I've tried logging out of Forumrunner and back in but that didn't help.

I agree it sounds like a backend issue with forum runner. Perhaps I'll go over there and post.

Odd only the two of use are talking about it... I suspect it is more common and people are just dealing with it silently by thinking nasty thoughts toward the AVS app.

Only 2 of us having this problem?

Is this the right forum to raise this issue?

Btw, there is something funny about the AVS app. If I delete it and reinstall it, it still has my settings. The iPhone says all app data will be deleted, but it's not. What's up with this?

Maybe this isn't the correct forum? There has to be more having this issue. Unless there's a way to fix it we're not aware of.

I'm not seeing any badge issues. The app thread is here:

http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1253913

No one is reporting this issue there either.

The Bug report area is here:

Just to update, as a last effort I deleted the app and re installed. All settings are the same as before. Now I don't receive any push notifications. So not sure if that fixed the badge issue, but it definitely created a new issue. Very confused.

MadMyers: I asked the same question in the DBStalk app (which from what I understand is related to this app) and one of the admins here replied with the following:

"Hi...Look for a updated app soon as it was an issue that was introduced by a Apple App policy change."

So over there they are aware of an issue and are working on a fix. So my assumption is we will see it here as well, since I always see updates for both apps at the same time

Perhaps some good news.

Any time Forum Runner releases an update, it will push to their stock app as well as all branded apps.

Thanks for the update. I gave up on push notifications for AVS and disabled it.

The tapatalk integration seems to have problems showing quoted text correctly. Anyone seeing this?

Hi...

TapaTalk is just a quick add in to give some mobile access while the HTML5 version version of the mobile platform is finished. It really was written for VB and IP boards and was modified to work here.

So things like PMs, Search, Stickys, Quotes, and a few others things just do not work or look strange.

Sorry about TapaTalk. We just wanted to be sure people could read and post as we work to get the other platform done.

Thanks

So is tapatalk support just a hack/temporary feature expected to be replaced with native HTML5?

Not necessarily temporary as Tapatalk will still work for folks who happen to prefer it, but the HTML5 browser will be a more complete solution.
