I realize this is a topic that has had a few posts, but wanted to get an update as I don't see anything very recent. I'm moving out of a condo that has a Polk Passive SurroundBar built in (which I've enjoyed quite a bit). I can't take it with me so I need to buy a new SurroundBar and I'm wondering what my options are.

As mentioned in the title, I have an Onkyo SR-608 receiver which I've found to be great (I like good sound but have budget constraints). I have done a lot of searching on the web and found many budget sound bars (under $500) but they all seem to come with a receiver built in. I just want a passive sound bar I can hook up to my Onkyo. With price as the (sadly) predominant factor, what are the top picks for low cost passive sound bars? Am I understanding correctly that with my own receiver I wouldn't be able to properly hook up to the budget line of Polk's line up that includes the built in receiver? They seem to only have an optical line in... am I getting the same sound out of that if I went from receiver to soundbar via optical cable as opposed to 5 separate speaker cables?

Thanks all,

seis
