There's no question the panel is 120Hz. The refresh rate is all hardware and cannot be adjusted by a software update.

TruMotion (in short) is simply a software algorithm which attempts to smooth the picture. It can be very effective at removing motion blur. Many viewers enjoy this feature on a low setting. TruMotion does smooth the picture when the camera pans or fast moving objects are on-screen with minimal 'noticeable' downsides. The feature can introduce unwanted artifacts or an effect called Soap Opera Effect (SOE) when cranked up high. Some people really enjoy the SOE however, so that’s not necessarily a negative experience to all viewers utilizing motion compensation. SOE is a matter of preference but there will be 'noticible' artifacts here and there.

Hope this brief description makes it a little clearer.

Cheers.
You've done a good job, don't get discouraged. I'm considering a new LG 42CS570 120Hz LCD, for a friend. Went to Best Buy yesterday and, with the sales guy, turned on its Trumotion. The Trumotion menu came up with the Off, low, medium, high, etc., and the accompanying slider bars for judder and blur.

Is that a good enough indication that this set does, in fact, have Trumotion? In your bigger, affected sets, is it the case that you don't have any menu option for Trumotion, or that you do have it, but it doesn't do anything? If it's missing totally, then it looks like this model may be OK, since it's there.

The issue isn't whether or not the feature exists as it has been confirmed it does appear on the late Apr sets. LG is withholding this firmware update for reasons they will not explain. They simply push the release date further and further forward. I'd recommend having a read through the entire thread to fully understand the situation. To be honest, there's more than enough reason to be discouraged with LG as a brand.

I think it's accepted now that it's simply a matter of time before the update is released but it's the principal at this point and LG has been less than helpful or honest about the issue.

I did read the thread, and I sympathize and understand the issue for owners who need the firmware update. I'd just like to know if the Trumotion options are missing in the menu on the affected machines.

Thought it was clear, but to answer your question: The feature does not exist on the sets with the outdated firmware version. You are talking about a completely different model than what is being discussed in this thread also. The LM series models in this thread are specifically affected (as it says in the title).

Thanks. I've waited days for owners in the CS570 thread to jump in on the one complaint about Trumotion turning off, but no one has. So I was just searching for any info on whether the menu option existed on affected machines. I just posted my question on the CS570 thread. Hopefully some owners will jump in.

Regarding your situation, it seems reasonable that it's entirely firmware and can be fixed. I've seen other cases over the years, with other brands, where firmware could not fix hardware-related problems such as IR interference, black levels, etc. But this seems like an oversight, just like in the original Samsung blu ray players which were released with a bad resolution default. Purely firmware. Good luck.

There's no doubt it's a firmware version issue, that's been established 100%.

Good luck with yours as well. I'd recommend starting a new thread with your specific model and problem in the title. This forum is so good for getting people together to help with a problem. I sat on the sidelines for a while trying to figure out what to do. As you can see, after posting this thread, we're getting somewhere and because of this community. LG was forced to publically acknowledge the issue/oversight. I really want to know why the 65's don't have this problem and the 55's do. Seems like they spotcheck by model class and not by models within the class... Poor, very poor.

I'm shaking my head about LG... Not only is this Trumotion issue super frustrating because it's advertised on the box/site/retailers but the local dimming feature which was plastered all over LG's site for this series is also now not a feature included. Don't get me wrong, I love this TV, but at the pricepoint the 55" 6200's are ($2199.99 in my area) - unless you get a spectacular deal, it's way too pricey. I got mine for $1499 b/c the 55LW5600 was out of stock after I had reserved it, but the retailer had to take a loss due to their mix up. LG is charging way too much for this set. I had no idea it would be a lesser TV at time of purchase. I was shown a 7600 and told it was the same model with different bezel. The retailer gave me a matter of minutes to decide yes/no and I needed to get a TV that night as I had rented a vehicle for transportation of the purchase. Bad taste in my mouth and many other owner's mouths as well I'm sure. I wish LG would be more open to answer the question of "how did this happen?", with more than just a "we expect it to be available..." and keep pushing that date forward. I'm happy with the set, but unsure if I'll ever buy LG again after this QC experience.

ive bought my 55lm6200 from frys electronics on may 21st.i still got till the 21st this month to return it. if the new firmware doesnt come out next week, ill return it and get a different brand. nice tv and all but to say 120hz when it not is pure false advertisement. is there a case legally for this? they also say its actually on but theres no control to turn it off? i have a sony 55 led 120hz and i see a very big difference when i turn on the motionflow on my sony. so no, the 120hz on my lm6200 is not on at all

Hey folks, I just joined to quickly chime in on the LM6200. I bought this tv 4 days ago after reading good things about it online and being impredded by it on display.
I think the set looks fantastic but I'll have to return it and get another as I discovered a problem this morning. it appears as though the "3D depth" slider doesn't work as it should and instead controls volume for the 3D sound. I know this to be correct as I went back to the store to confirm the display set worked as I expected.
I'm also having the no trumotion issue and when I return, I'll be sure to get a more recently manufactured set.
sooooooooooooo.... Watch out for this problem on your sets.

i went back to frys electronics today and returned the 55lm6200 which i got for $999. they have a great deal in store now for an lg 3d bluray player, 6 extra 3d glasses and the 55lm6700 for $1099. wasnt sure if i was gonna get the later manufactured one cause they cant tell unless you open the box and see the date behind the tv. i went ahead and bought the bundle deal anyway hoping its the later manufactured tv. when i got home and checked the back of the tv it says manufactured may 2012. set the tv up and walla, it has the trumotion setting. and also the firmware or software date is 03.21.03 and its updated

Now I am seeing May models get the firmware version 03.21.03. This seems to be a more updated version of the firmware than the proposed 03.20.93 firmware which contains the Trumotion feature. I wonder if LG is still testing out the firmware and targeting a 03.21.XX firmware release to fix the Trumotion. Maybe LG found some things broken in the 03.20.93 build and wanted to fix it in the 03.21.XX release. I am crossing my fingers that LG will release a 03.21.XX firmware sometime before the end of this month.

I just got my TV 5200 yesterday, now I want to go look and see if there is a TRUMOTION setting. So if I understand this thread correctly there is no TRUMOTION on my TV if it has the older firmware, or is it that it is just turned on all the time?
No its not turned on all the time. its actually off. I saw a lot of difference with the video qualities now that i got the tv with the trumotion setting enabled
post #50 of 244
Wow, that is crazy. I am looking at the huge box sitting in my living room with TruMotion splashed all over it! I checked mine, it was made in March I have no TruMotion options... Pretty annoying.

Ok this holds up to my theory that the early models that dont have it cant have it at all. I noticed the same thing, i dont think its on at all i think they never put it in the tv hoping we wouldnt find out and told us "its always on". Bull sh*t if u ask this crap back fired on them and now that we have figured it out they are scrambling tryn to figure out what the hell to do so they dont get sued. And to stop it from getting any worse they started putting it in the new tvs. I find it kinda funny that they all of a sudden started putting the feature in the new ones right when ppl really started to catch on to it. I will believe it when i see it but i dont think we will ever see it on our tvs.

to the guy about to 120hz thing. i had the same complaint and emailed LG but they "ensured" me that it was but i believe that about as much as the whole true motion crap. They claim they are still working on the firmware b/c its not ready yet but if it wasnt ready it wouldnt be in the new tvs now would it? LG is screwing us all, all they cared about was having the title for the thinest bezel. My 55lw6500 was 100xs the tv this one is...I really wish i could get it back...
i smell class action. they say mid june they will come out with a firmware right? if they dont by the end of june try to sue em to replace the tvs or get your money back. im lucky i still got to replace mine but i know how you all feel. hopefully this will all be resolved without a hassle from you guys.

Not sure what to do. I like the TV so far but a little annoyed about this missing feature. I have time to send it back to Amazon, but hopefully they just release the firmware...

Dude send it back if u have still have time its a very easy and painless thing to do I sent 4 TVs back. I would get one and try it out then send it back and get another till I got one I wanted. The best one of all of them is the 55lw6500 240hz' it had everything and a much better pic IMO. I tryd to send mine back but I was just a few days out from being able to, if I could have I would have def gotten the lw6500 back. So dude if you still have time to send it back I would b/c you prob will get a newer version and like I said Amazon really makes it easy.

I just filed a repair claim with LG saying my TV is cutting off randomly so they will come out and replace my board and when they replace it it will have the new firmware in it. Some other ppl that have this TV that had that problem said when they repaired it, it had the new firmware so...they can't prove its not cutting off after an hour or two of use :-)

When you sent it back. Was it a single visit to bring you a new TV and return the old one or was it two different appointments with no TV between?

My TV rebooted while playing a 3D game last night. It's a sad time when our TVs crash now.

I've got the April version of the 55LM6200 and no TruMotion also mad.gif

After I returned my first TV due to sound issues (made in April) I received a new one which was made in March. Both TV's did not have TruMotion. The model was the 55LM6200. I am in Canada and bought it at Futureshop. They do not currently have any in stock where I live, however they said they would order a new one directly from LG. Any idea if LG will send one made in May? This is really frustrating as it was supposed to be a university graduation present and now has turned into repacking and returning soon to be two TV's.

well, when i got my 55lm6700 from frys, i was hesitant to get it cause of this known issue. i showed him this very thread and he checked to see if they have the may versions. he couldnt tell unless they open the box to see behind the tv. but he did tell me that the tvs they have at the back (he even took me back there) just arrived a week before. this was last week when i was there. the tv i got is a may version with trumotion. so hopefully yours will be as well..goodluck

It was 2 diff. appointments. What they do is set up a time for the company to pick it up from your house then amazon is supposed to wait till the tv arrives back to them b4 they give you a refund so you can repurchace a new one. I sent back 4 tvs tryn to get the right one and every time i called amazon after the company picked up the tv and asked if they woyld call and verify the tv has been picked up and go ahead and give me my refund and every time they did so i was only without a tv for like 4 or 5 days wasnt to bad i just put my tv from my bed room in the living room.

HEllo Saint Cow..

Pretty neat that you got trumotion now (unlike the rest of us who got fooled into purchasing this tv). If you don't mind can you help me out with some info?

I checked the australian website and the firmware update there is .03.10.07 is this the one they sent you? or was it the 03.20.93 that supposedly enables trumotion?
and when you installed the firmware they sent you and after turning on trumotion, was it noticeable? My main concern is that when they finally (or if ever) release the golden firmware update (03.20.93) and after I install the damn thing, will it really turn on trumotion... there is a rumor circling around that the tvs don't have the function and thus the update will do nothing but to give us a menu that will do nothing...

Can you help me out?
I'm really concerned... and pissed off since I bought this tv specifically for the trumotion.. I don't care about the 3d or the internet access frown.gif
