I hope these days nobody use the ole mechanical controls and they are all touch screens!

Why? If you just want it to be a volume control (for instance for sub-zones in a Sonos-based setup or whatever), why would a touch screen be better than a rotary knob?

Only better aesthetically. These days of touch phones and touchpads, mechanical knobs seem kinda retro, AND electronic control open up the possibility that if you are sitting on the lazyboy and don't want to get up to the wall, wif out the ever present smart phone..... but I realize to everything there is a cost.
