HDMI to projector with CAT5 Question

Cat 5 (instead of 5e or 6) makes this tougher. I've seen some dual cable cat 5 solutions. Just make sure the converter is to the HDMI revision number or capability you use (if you use 3D, make sure the converter can handle 3D) and that it doesn't compress the video or audio signal.

Should be a much easier solution with 5e. I probably recommend looking at the Octava web site too much (I don't have any tie-in), but it's a good place to start while looking. You can then look elsewhere for cheaper, but at least you'll know what is available.

My very quick look at the Tripp Lite concerns me because the ad says "1080p (24Hz)". If it can't handle 1080p/60, then your Blu-Ray menus and computer output may not be visible. The other concern is that it gets its power from the HDMI cable. That has been a problem for many users since many devices don't supply enough power to then also power a converter. As I said, that was a very quick look.

Sorry to hijack this thread but what's the difference between CAT-5 and CAT-6? I bought some CAT-6 for a video security system (not paying attention to the package) and it seems to work ok with "standard" ethernet device connections.......

The difference is primarily in the precision with which it is made. That results in tighter control of impedance, which minimizes unwanted reflections, allowing better performance. There are also changes that help reduce crosstalk. In your case, all it does is give you a little more headroom.
