Been looking at getting a Synology NAS for a long time. I will initially start with 2-3 2 or 3tb hdds and fill it up from there. Will be using SHR. The NAS will sit next to the router as will the nettop pc.
I need the server to do the following:
1. backup documents/pictures/music
2. remote backup windows 7/osx
3. File server for nettop pc - xbmc
4. File server for music - not sure about implementation at this point, either sonos (just using synology as file server) or squeeze box (using squeeze center)
5. Torrent downloading
6. NZB downloading
I understand the 411 has an ARM processor and only 512 mb of ram. If I were to step up, I'd step up to the 1512 (once all the blinking blue light of death issues have been resolved). I would skip the 411+II/412+.
Basically is this right for me or do I NEED the atom processor? What would be most taxing (and I'd like it to run without a hitch) are one of the two following scenarios:
1. Downloading Torrents/Newsgroups (and unpacking/repairing files) while streaming 720p/1080p movies.
2. Squeezecenter (if I decide to use it) and Newsgroups/torrents at the same time.
Is the limited ram and processor up to these combined tasks? I'm looking at the newegg sale, so I'd like to have some input before tomorrow night so I can jump on the 411 sale.
