External hard drive question

Thread Starter
My family have ordered 2TB external hard drive for me as a present,i need a new drive as my drives are nearly full,i store all my AVCHD and photos on a current drive.
I also store all my edited film on HDV tape as another storage so tape BD and raw files stored plus tape goes on another drive,i have always kept the AVCHD files and tape on separate drives, the 2TB is too large for one medium so i am not sure if its best to get them to change the 2TB drive for 2 no 1TB drives, any thoughts
on this would be appreciated.

Well,

I guess you're thinking about what happens if the drive crashes with all my files on it right? That's why I'm opting for a 4TB drive that I'll use in RAID 1 (redundant storage) mode. That way I'll always have two copies of my media and can hot swap them out if one of the drives goes bad.

Does the 2TB drive have a RAID option? If so then you're problems are solved, you could use it like I'm planning.

Other than that I'd still keep the 2TB drive and max it out with files then you can always go bigger in the future and backup the backup with a backup! LOL
