Purchasing new plasma, few questions before I take the plunge today!!

I'm looking to pick up a 65" Panasonic VT50. I have a Samsung 61" DLP that's about 6 years old and about to need it's second bulb and starting to have glare in the upper left corner from some slight sagging. So now seemed like the time to buy. I just had a few questions...

1) This will be my living room TV so often has a lot of light coming in from the left side. This shouldn't be a problem right? It has to be brighter than a DLP.

2) I play PS3 about 5% of the overall use of this TV. All the plasma "issues" from 5+ years ago are gone at this point? Mainly speaking to image retention and latency.

3) Do most people mount these or place them on a stand, they seem incredibly heavy. I have a glass topped Bell'O stand I was wondering if it would break, and if a mount is necessary are the mono price low-profile ones that hold like 165lbs fine? Also do you usually mount them higher than a DLP would sit and tilt down slightly or mount them just a couple inches over the stand?

4) Based on past history the price seems to be pretty stable for the first 4-6 months after release then drop pretty steadily from there? Is there any reason to anticipate a noticeable price drop over the next 3 months or so? I can't wait much longer than that or I'd have to invest in a new bulb on the old DLP.

Thanks for your help if everything looks good I'd like to purchase today!!

I just made the jump from LCD to Plasma a few weeks back getting a 60ST30. I am happy with the new set its just not perfect or a whole bunch better than my LCD was under everyday use. But compare to any DLP I have ever seen would be much better.

1) Plasma is bright not as bright as LCD in most cases but far better than DLP RP. More of an issue is reflection of light. But unless you are in a real bright room or have alot of lights that would reflect.

2) There is still image retention and a chance for burn in but as long as you are mindful of it and dont leave static images on it for days straight you'll be fine.

3) Most people hang them on the wall I have mine on a sturdy wood TV stand. I would get a new stand if I were you. Last thing you want is to come home to that big new plasma being face first smash onto the ground because the stand broke. I had a 60lb 46in lcd that I was able to handle awkwardly by myself but getting this new 90lb plasma about killed me and the wife getting it out of the box and put on its mount and stand.

4) I doubt you'll see much movement on prices apart from isolated sale for the next 3 months. But after that the prices will drop by 20% or so every few months right up until the 2013s hit then prices go back up a little and stay till they are gone.

I'm no expert but I'd say get the Plasma unless you have light or reflection issues in your house or you like to watch a channel like golf that has a logo in the same spot for hours a day then I would consider a comparable LCD.

I just made the jump aswell coming from a 52" Sharp Aquos LCD to the new Panasonic 55" GT50 and I couldn't be happier.

1. It will definetly be brighter than your DLP. 2012 Panasonic plasma's are much brighter than last years. I also have 5 windows on the right side and it's not a problem how most people make it out to be.

2. I haven't had any IR or BI or lag for that matter. I play PS3 in game mode and it's awesome. As xtylerx said as long as you don't leave it paused for hours and hours (who does that) you will be fine.

3. I have mine wall mounted as it looks much better than on the stand in my opinion. It's mounted at eye level and it's perfect, no strain on your neck from looking up if it was higher. Depending how high your entertainment unit is, leave some space in between. I would say more than 2 inches.

4. Pull the trigger on one, I got an awesome deal on mine. $500 off. You just gotta talk to the sales guy well.

If you choose the VT50, you are getting the best of the best plasma. Good luck, post pics if you get it.
