I'm looking to find some help/answers regarding the Sony HT-SS370. I purchased it about a year ago at Best Buy during a pretty fantastic sale. It's my first home theater system, and I'm completely new to the audio game. Set-up was simple, I've had the system set up in two different places and it sounded excellent after some basic settings tweaking.
During the middle of last week, I began hearing something that was rather alarming. I began hearing a distinct over-modulation coming from what I assumed to be the center speaker, specifically during dialogue. It popped up first when my friends and I were watching "The Sitter" on Blu-Ray. The issue persisted throughout the entire movie. I restarted it again after and went to a few scenes in particular where I was very much aware of it, and I couldn't recreate the issue.
Since it wasn't happening anymore, I let it slide. While watching some of the NBC comedies on Thursday night, I heard it again, specifically during Parks and Recreation. It seems to be at its worse when a female speaks, though it happens with males as well.
It sounds almost like a rattling, as if something is vibrating. I checked everything around the set-up and nothing was in a position to be moving due to the speaker power. Nothing was extremely loud anyway (somewhere between "12" and "16" usually, the receiver goes significantly higher than that).
I moved up close and put my ear to each speaker individually and couldn't hear it, though when you're sitting at a comfortable distance, it's persistent and incredibly annoying.
The only thing I can compare it to is the sound of dying internal speakers in an old CRT TV, as it was happening to one of my parents TVs recently (though not as pronounced or severe as what I'm hearing).
I know it's a bit vague, but I figured perhaps someone who has some experience with audio could at least tell me what to look for. I just packed up the system and moved back home for the summer, and am still hearing it in it's new position. I'd be happy to grab some detailed settings and configurations from the box if that might help.
EDIT: It should be noted that the system has had regular use for the last year. I purchased it in the last week of April in 2011, which, of course, means it's no longer under warranty from Sony. I've made sure to consistently during down the receiver before shutting it off, etc.
