This receiver set my not large speakers to large and the crossover at 40Hz so I bet that is indeed your problem.

I was interested in upgrading my AVR pretty soon and I was wondering if one of these cables can bring network capability to one of the xx13 (7 channel). This is the cable (http://www.amazon.com/Rocketfish-High-Speed-Ethernet-Cable/dp/B004CZPS9M) a HDMI cable with built in Ethernet that I would connect to an AppleTV which in turn would plug into the AVR. I assume this would not work but I guess I'd ask? For the record I don't have an ethernet (Cat5/6) connection near where the AVR is housed. I was hoping that this would be a potential solution since I have that HDMI cable from Rocketfish. Thanks in advance.

nope, won't work... the components would have to be enabled to take advantage of it, and no one has released anything that does...

I'd recommend getting a network to power line type adapter to connect to the receiver. http://www.amazon.com/b?ie=UTF8&node=1194444

Yeah I just read that apple tv itself does not support Ethernet over HDMI. Oh well thanks for the response. My wife got this cable after getting duped at best buy when she went to buy a simple HDMI-HDMI connector.

I have an Airport Express laying around could it do the same thing (wireless to wired)?
It looks like the airport express would function sort of as a bridge. given it has a LAN out. I am not certain if it allows wireless in and wired out or not. Great question, hopefully someone can confirm or refute that.

I've been looking around and it seems like there is a way to use the express as a bridge. When I get a networked AVR I will give it a shot.

I am still a newbie to this forum but really all of batpig, JD, et al's advice as it helped me settle on a Denon receiver. Thanks guys!

So I just received my 2113CI today and can't wait to get cracking on setting it up (we're finishing our basement with a home theater and are still a few weeks out).

In the meantime I'd like to figure out what is the best solution to get everything connected to my home network. Our modem / router sit on our main floor while all of this new stuff will be installed in the basement. Our router is a Linksys/Cisco WRT160N v3.

What is the best route for us to go? Should we look at a Powerline adapter or wireless bridge? And what specific products are recommended?

Forgive me if this sort of thing should be posted elsewhere - as mentioned I am still new! cool.gif

The best solution is the one that works for you given your components in your environment ... so either wireless bridge, powerline adapters, or even using MoCA adapters. I'm starting to gather some router/bridge solutions in this post --> http://www.avsforum.com/t/1409431/the-official-denon-avr-xx13-model-owners-thread-faq/1000_100#post_22219147

Pat

remember that large/small is a misnomer and really has little to do with the physical size of your speakers. It's really a "bass management on/off" switch, and any speaker that is measured to produce bass down to around 40Hz or so will get this setting after Auto Setup, regardless of whether it's a big bookshelf speaker or a slim tower speaker or a big honkin' tower with built-in powered subs.

regardless of what happens after Auto Setup, Audyssey always recommends resetting all speakers to "small" for proper bass management as discussed in this article: http://www.audyssey.com/blog/2009/05/small-vs-large/

Hello I am a happy new owner of a 2113CI, it's my first sound system & receiver and it is awesome. The issue I am having right now is with the iPhone app & DLNA playback. Basically I am trying to use my iPhone to play my music library through the receiver using the media server option (DLNA). This works very well except that if I am in any screen that is NOT the denon remote app screen on my phone the receiver will finish a song and stop playing. The GUI says internet radio when this happens in case you're wondering. Anyone have experience with this issue?

Hey all,

I'm the happy owner of an AVR-1913. I have one problem that has me stumped: Can this unit play 96/24 FLAC files encoded with 5.1 channels (either thru the ethernet port or usb)? I have successfully played 96/24 stereo FLAC files both ways and it sounds great. However, playing a 5.1 encoded version either stutters badly or won't play at all (tried ethernet and USB). Here's the file info:
Code:
Format : FLAC
Format/Info : Free Lossless Audio Codec
Duration : 1mn 7s
Bit rate mode : Variable
Bit rate : 7 185 Kbps
Channel(s) : 6 channels
Channel positions : Front: L C R, Back: L R, LFE
Sampling rate : 96.0 KHz
Bit depth : 24 bits
Stream size : 57.6 MiB (100%)

Anyone played these things with my model?

^^
AFAIK, it's either 2CH bitstream or 5.1 PCM.

If you still haven't purchased, I might be able to get you quite the deal on the 2113CI.

A few weeks ago I ordered the 2112CI from EE, indirectly thru Amazon. The next day EE called me, claimed to be out of stock, and offered to sell me the 2113ci for the same price. I declined, because of a few missing features. E.g I wanted AM radio.

A few days later I saw that EE was no longer Amazon's 1st vendor displayed when searching for the 2112CI. So I decided to make "one call" (but once again actually just used Amazon for fulfillment. They make it so very easy, no need to type in credit card numbers at a vendor I never used before).

And after my "one call" I got a receiver very quickly, because they're in the next state over. Overnight shipping via Fedex Ground, if you can believe that!

However, now I see that EE is once again the featured vendor for Amazon for the 2112CI. So maybe they located more stock. Or maybe they are still out of stock, are screwed up in terms of inventory management, and will offer to upgrade you for free!

I'd call this "bait and switch", but I think for 90% or more of the potential customers, they would be very happy to get the newer receiver at the closeout price.
^^
Hardly "bait and switch" when a supplier is simply out of stock. Also note that EE has been selling the 2112CI at this price or lower since it was first released last summer and will most likely sell the 2113CI at this price as well once all of the 2112CI stock is gone.

FWIW, based on your stated experience, your above use of the word doesn't meet the definition of "bait and switch" as the distributor is "upgrading" you to the newer unit for the same price as the original item order. That fails to meet the definition of "bait and switch" and does meet the definition of good customer service. Stuff happens.

Sorry for your disappointment.

Yes. Just configure the AirPort Express to join your existing wireless network, and the wireless network will be bridged to its LAN port.

The Express must obviously be within the limits of your network's wireless reception area.

It is always better to use a wired connection though. I get the impression that AVR manufacturers are reluctant to incorporate wireless capability because of the problems that can result from wireless interference. If a wired connection is simply impossible for you, just be aware that wireless signals can fade in and out due to a number of phenomena. This is not a problem surfing the internet with a laptop since an intermittent wireless signal just means it might take longer to load a web page. When streaming data for movies or music though, an intermittent signal means your streaming will stop, intermittently.

HI

Looks like great information here and I might get an answer to my problem and learn a lot about my new 1713.
Out of the Box at home - I have no Menu on the TV screen.

Checked TV Ports (4 HDMI) and Cables - all working with Humex Boc, Apple TV and Blue Ray Player.

Spoke with retailer and he said come in and we'll swap it out ! Worked straight off on a 'ordinary' TV in the store so he sent me packing and again, check cables, TV HDMI set up / Res etc.. No Joy.. So I called Denon. Very helpfull guy said, its probably HDMI Handshake - Update TV firmware to latest and CHECK Firmware on AV. - Done - Still no picture - Menu/ Setup / Volume etc .. or Pass through from Blue Ray etc .....TV is a SONY KDL 46-Z5800.

I have registered the call with Denon (3 Business Days response :-( ) . I hope someone can help OR at least by posting here someone with a similar problem might get some direction.

BTW I put my speakers, network etc ... on the box and she sounds great, AirPlay is handy I'm guessing I'll need a menu to get the FM / Internet Radio set up.

I really look forward to comments, tips, ideas help ??

Thank You Paul (IRELAND)

Try setting BraviaSync on the TV to OFF as well as a different brand of HDMI cables.

I see all of the xx13CIs include a video processor, will a 2113 run notably hotter than a 2112? I'm considering moving to a 2113 to see if it will correct a problem I'm having with my 2112.

This second question is for batpig, will the Reference Level Offset buttons I've programed into my Harmony work with the 2113?

Thank you,
Jim

freakjim -- how'd you get the Ref Level Offsets into your Harmony? Did you find serial codes for the offset settings and then convert to hex, and then "hack" them in?

If I'm remembering correctly, I used the hex codes found on this page.
http://www.remotecentral.com/cgi-bin/mboard/rc-discrete/thread.cgi?6253,new

Then followed these instructions.

Thank You for the advise. I have turned off HDMI Control on the TV and the AV box with no Joy. I am exchanging mails with DENON about the HDMI Firmware versions etc ...

Using a SONY High speed HDMI cable now - still no joy. Any other ideas welcomed. I will let you know how I get on with Denon / Sony

Thank You !

What is the brand of original cables you tried?

WIESON is one, Tried others that came with the devices I have purchased.

Hey guys,

I am getting the following 2 options, each for $460:
- AVR 2312ci
- AVR 2113ci.

I have a simple bose acoustimass 6 set of speakers (100W RMS x 5)... (I know its crappy, but I have a small lil house with no desire to upgrade)
have an HD tv.... have an analog input.

My main concern is quality of sound. In the comparison, I saw that a number of people commented on the Chassis being smaller in the 2113ci. What is the implication on sound quality?

Sorry, but could not find reviews of users of the 2113ci, hence asking this basic stuff here
post #1079 of 8312
Review post #1 of this thread to find a comparison of the two models in question.
Hooking up a new 1713.

I was under the impression that the video from the HDMI inputs just "passed through" and wasn't processed. Is this true? Does only 3D video pass through?

I ask because I have recently read several posts suggesting one connect the Blu-Ray deck's HDMI directly to the TV (to bypass the AVR video processing) to achieve better pq. And then connect the BR audio to the receiver separately (digital coax/toslink).

If I had a Blu-Ray deck that could output 4:4:4 would that make a difference?

The simplicity of being able to switch both audio and video with one button push on the receiver is convenient and desirable (esp. for other family members), but I just got a new panny plasma and don't want to unknowingly comprise the BR pq ; )

Thanks!
