Woohoo! I just picked up an open-box 1713 from BestBuy for $290. It's still in the box, looks like new, and the remote looks like it's still sealed in the plastic bag...basically looks untouched. The salesman was offering me 4 year coverage for $49 (seemed to be indicating he was giving me a bargain, as he had to get a mgr to override something on the register). I instinctively said no, but later, driving home, wondered if maybe I should have taken the offer (this being my first time buying an open-box item, maybe it would be better to be safe). Would anyone else have taken that offer?

I'm sure I'll be hanging around this thread for a while, getting everything set up. Thanks in advance to batpig, jdsmoothie, and other forum users who make this site such a great resource. When you look around and see that the average post count by users on these threads is probably in the 30s, and these guys have 20K-30K...well, you know there providing a service!

I was just at Costco and snagged a Harmony 1 remote. It's $120 so I bought it on spec. We will have the Samsunf TV, a Panasonic BR, Cable/DVR box and an ATV soon and it would be nice to have 1 controller for a change.

I will return it if this is not a good solution.

3313CI drives the Pioneer AJones FS52 , C22, BS22 speaker set very well, the 2113CI sounded great but now, the AJones' speakers are even more amazing (now to think about the $$$ I'm gonna eat on the 2113CI via eBay or a friend) ...

The extended dynamic range alone though is worth it much less the AM radio, HD radio, preamp outputs (all channels & volume control on Zone 2, etc...... - very much worth the extra $$$$

also the 3313CI is MUCH heavier which I'm sure related to the greater dynamics playing a multitude of stereo music to the Pioneer's.

I'll save $$$ on a separate amp for Zone 2 as I planned with the 2113CI as the extra power / better power supply / amp's with the 3313CI - I don't need the extra amp , built-in will be fine for Zone2 now (the extra set of Pioneer FS52's sound great fed by the 3313CI - as well as a friend's separate power amp to the FS52's).

The Pioneer's were already super impressive (regardless of the $$$ but at a super low cost even more so) - so the $$$$ that I saved by returning 45 day old Polk TSi 400's, 100's, and a CS20 for the Pioneer's - that $$$$ goes into the 3313CI (I picked up the Polk's new for less than 1/2 price but still the Pioneer's are much less).

I guess the lower sensitivity 6-ohm Pioneer's just like the beefier power from the 3313CI quite a bit .

If only i don't get burned unloaded the 2 mo old 2113CI will all work out well & next time I"ll take my time deciding on a receiver.

One item I read here - spend 2x - 3x as much on speakers as the Receiver - that was my plan and also why i went with the 2113CI - but the Pioneer's definitely are an exception to that rule as they are much less than the 3313CI (heck even a 1913) :-)

The 1713 comes with a 2 year factory warranty. Check to see if your credit card will add a 3rd year (Amex will for sure), otherwise, I'd take BB up on their $45 offer as that's a fair deal considering the 1713 MSRP is $449.

I can't even get to the setup to update the firmware and I can't even powr the damn thign off. I;ve since by passed it so I can watch tv but it's really bothering me. Denon's only help was "check the connection." Any help?

You've been following the Pandora issue but don't know why it's not working on your receiver? cool.gif

As I wrote in a previous post (just this morning), Denon has an announcement on their web site (http://usa.denon.com) that talked about when the firmware update will be available for various receivers. The update for the 3313CI is due out on 12/6.

The iTunes source does set the initial volume (which is why we get people complaining that the volume is crazy loud when they start Airplay) but once the connection is established you can control volume on either end.

Got it. Thanks for the clarification.

What I need to know is currently on my Pio I have an external amp connected as well as speakers connected to the speaker posts. The pio has an option to turn off the internal amp so I can have sound going to all speakers or just the amp. Does the Denon have the same functionality or at the very least does it output to both the speakers posts and Preouts at the same time even if I cant turn the internal amp off I could do it the other way and turn my external amp off. I am very excited about possibly switching to this receiver as I have always read great things about the Denon and Audysessy and am curious to see the difference between that and my elite. Thanks in advance!

No, you cannot turn off the internal amps as the speaker posts and pre-outs are always hot.

no... the entire receiver isn;t working. it simply says no signal. It seems like it happens when the main zone is off, but i cant get the main zone back on via the remote...how can I? sorry i this seems ridiculous but ihave pressed every button

I am new to updates for this Denon 1713. It looks like a Pandora fix is forthcoming in a few weeks but I have already seen a prompt that an update is available.
Usually I don't update unless I have a problem or additional features I want are added. So far I am not having any problems or features missing so, from those with experience from Denon, should I be in a hurry to update?

So, I have a Denon AVR-2313CI and it's been terrific until tonight. I turned on the unit and found that the left and right channels no longer work, no matter what speakers are hooked up to it. (This was before and after the newest firmware was applied.)

I tried doing a soft reset, as well as resetting the microprocessor and still can't get any sound from those two channels.

Any thoughts? I'm going to try and contact support tomorrow to see if they have anything that I can try, but this is pretty frustrating as I have only had the receiver for a few months.

Thanks for any help that anyone can offer.

well it was an open item which is why a manager had to override the price and since the price was lower the price of the geek squad protection was lower then normal

Thats interesting. Do the other speakers (other posts) play? If so its possible you somehow set it to play 'speaker b'. Im not at home to test if this is even possible to have set, but worth digging into on your own to see if somehow you did

Hello again,

I setup my 1613 on Monday but when I tried to update the firmware (as I was expecting a large initial update) it said I had the latest firmware. I read in this thread that a new update showed up a within the last day or two but I am not able to get that either. For the record, I am unable to log into Pandora (entering email and password does nothing). I am able to stream internet radio however. Is this normal and if not, do I have a defective unit?

In a previous post here...Denon is releasing a fix soon. Try usa.denon.com and check the announcement link on the 1st page. My 1713 is scheduled for Dec. 17.smile.gif

Not sure what is causing your issue; however, you may be best served by simply resetting the microprocessor (p. 176 OM) and starting the setup process over.

There should be no reason to have to connect the analog RCA cables from the cable box as well unless you also want to pass that audio to Zones 2/3, rather if you don't also have an HDMI cable connected from the box to the AVR, also connect an optical or digital coax cable in order to pass DD 5.1. Make sure that the component video source is assigned to a different source name other than CBL/SAT (if you also have an HDMI connection using that source name). You should then be able to select the component video input source name using the "Video Source" setting (p. 128 OM) with the NET/USB source selected.

If you haven't updated the unit out of the box, then this is simply the update referred to in post #6 of this thread. You can either update now, or it will be incorporated with the forthcoming Pandora fix.

Has anyone else seen a time where two of the outputs died like that?

JD thanks for the reply. I didn't have an optical cable long enough. Originally my setup was HDMI from fios to AVR, AVR to Samsung LED. I'm under the impression I can't use HDMI if I want to listen to the Network/Apple TV while watching TV. So I unplugged my HDMI from the cable box to the AVR, and plugged in Component cables from Fios to the component inputs on the AVR, in the meantime, using analog audio until I get a longer optical wire. So when I am watching tv, I can select video source cable/sat. However, when I am in "network," ie pandora, airplay, when I go to "Input " under settins, there is no choice to select "video source." Any ideas?

And why would you say that? If you go beyond a speakers power rating any speaker can be damaged. If you are near the rating with a distorting amp it is more likely. Have you ever heard clipping distortion? That loud metallic sound is metal hitting metal. Not something that is suppose to happen.

I recently bought a 3313CI and love it! However, I have an issue I haven't been able to figure out yet. I have my Comcast cable box going into the CBL/SAT HDMI input in my AVR, and output going from the AVR to my Samsung TV to its HDMI 2 port which supports ARC. Both connections are using Redmere HDMI cables from Monoprice which support ARC. Everything sounds great when I am watching cable. However, when I am using my TV's web apps, such as Pandora and Netflix, I am not getting audio sent to the AVR. It still plays the audio from the cable box. To try to fix the problem, I connected a digital optical cable from the Audio Out of the TV to the AVR, and I set the Video source for CBL/SAT to the HDMI cable, but the audio source to OPT1, thinking that whatever sound was coming from the TV would get sent to the AVR regardless of the source (cable box or from the web apps). However, this doesn't work either. Can someone please help me figure this out? I would appreciate it!

In the settings did you assign the Optical input to TV Audio? I assume if you have Optical set to Cable/Sat it's going to use HDMI over Optical when both are connected.
Just figured that I would update the group here, I got the firmware update this morning on my 2113. Pandora works great again, and I didn't have to log in again. However I did have to log in to SiriusXM again.

Thanks for your reply. I believe I did try that also (setting the TV Audio to OPT1 and then choosing TV Audio on the remote) but it didn't work either. I'll try that again though tonight and report back.
