HDMI connections from cable/sat boxes to an AVR are often problematic resulting in various HDMI handshake issues either audio or video related. The best configuration is connecting the TiVO (HDMI) to the TV with Tivo(optical) to the AVR for surround audio. Use a Harmony remote (eg. 640) to control all of your devices with a one button ON/OFF feature.

To get the ARC audio to work: TV: BraviaSync to ON and audio set to external speakers. AVR: HDMI Control to ON.

Whole home remote setup meaning?
Basically just upgrade to the 2113ci frim tge 1913 because of better audio and better zone 2?
I could use a harmony for everything on the 2113ci right?

Thanks jdsmoothie for the suggestion...

One point to remember: My Tivo HDMI out connection is broken - so I am forced to use the component + optical audio...

I thought I could finally get it working with your directions: I made the changes to BraviaSync and turned on Denon's HDMI Control...got it figured out and then BAM! My newbieness bit me in the butt.

My Sony TV doesn't have digital optical IN - Only OUT. So I can't send the Tivo sound into the TV using optical audio. So now I have the unit turning on and off using the Tivo Remote (Yay!) but I've got no sound - no optical audio in.

NEXT: When I plug the optical audio out from the Tivo and INTO the Denon I get no sound with BraviaSync and HDMI Control on...so when I turn off the HDMI control the sound comes on but the Denon won't turn off when the TV goes off.

Any more suggestions?

So I guess my main question is: How can I either get the HDMI cable that takes signal out of the Denon and into the Sony HDMI port 1 (ARC) to play the sound I am sending - and then control everything from HOPEFULLY? the Tivo Remote...
OR
Forget the HDMI ARC sound solution and use the optical cable into the Denon - but when I turn off the TV (Tivo remote) have the sound turn off on the Denon.

Sorry, misunderstood ... didn't realize the TiVo (HDMI) no longer worked at all, rather that it no longer worked when connected to the AVR (ie. HDMI handshake issue). That being the case, the TiVo component cable would go to the TV instead of the HDMI with the TiVo (optical) to the AVR (means connect the optical from the TiVo to the AVR and not from the TV). Note that without the HDMI connection to the TV, you will not be able to use the ARC feature to pass the TiVo audio to the AVR, although not required with the optical cable connection. HDMI Control and BraviaSync serve no purpose here so best to set both settings to OFF. And without HDMI connected to the AVR, the benefit of HDMI-CEC (to power off AVR) does not apply which is why I suggested using a Harmony remote instead which can accomplish this task.

Hi all.

I have a projector (and a 1613) and want to use an antenna since there is no cable signal in my HT room.

Can I use an antenna to the receiver to get a HD signal?

If so, will I get 5.1 sound?

So, I want to go antenna>receiver>projector/speakers

I'm thinking that I'm going to be buying a 3313CI in January/February to replace my 12 year old AVR. Does anyone have any recommendations on where I should buy it from? It looks like the prices are the same everywhere. I figure it's between Amazon and Denon direct. Does anyone have any suggestions on where to buy from? Would it be beneficial to go directly to Denon for an AVR purchase like this?

GIve either Electronics Expo or AV Science sales a "call" and ask for their best price. Both are authorized Denon resellers so the full 3 year warranty applies.

One more thing...
Earlier in the year, I remember looking thought this thread (I think it was on the first few posts) and reading something about when you have HDMI-CEC enabled for the ARC of a Samsung TV, it breaks something to do with HDMI pass-though when the AVR is powered off. I just did a quick search but I couldn't find it any more.

Am I remember this correctly? Maybe it's been fixed in a firmware update?

What's the currently functionality of the HDMI pass-though? Does it just stay on the last input used when the AVR is turned off?
Any info would be appreciated.

Likely depends on the Samsung model, but that advice to set Anynet+ to OFF if it interferes with the HDMI Standby pass through function still applies. The "Standby Source" setting can be set to either the "Last" source used or to a specific HDMI source to be used all the time.

I recently purchased a 1713 and I am really impressed. I am having one issue that is irritating me. I cannot get Airplay to work. I purchased an Ipod Touch specifically to use with the receiver, but I cannot get any of my Apple Devices to display the Airplay Icon. I have tried Itunes on a PC, an Ipad and the Ipod Touch. None of them work.

I have cycled the receiver power, computer, and Ipad off/on/off/on
I turned off DHCP and setup a static IP per the troubleshooting suggestions
Stand-by mode is set to Always On
The remote Apps work on both the Ipad and an Android phone, the Network apps all work, just not AirPlay.

I also turned on Home Sharing on the devices, not sure if that matters.

Denon and Apple FAQ's just say turn everything on and hit the icon. Simple as that.

Any suggestions?

AirPlay problem resolved ..... My router did not have multicast enabled. I enabled multicast streams, reset the router, bingo AirPlay Icons appear.

I actually never ended up swapping to the 2313, still have the 2113. There is no reason to expect any SQ difference between 2113 and 2313; I would only pay the extra if you will actually use the extra features.

I have an Xbox (component) hooked up to an LG TV (HDMI) through a Denon AVR-1913. After 30min-1hr, the Denon cuts off the video signal (TV shows 'no signal' icon) while the audio still plays. Have to shut down and power up to get it going again.

What's the best way to troubleshoot this? Are there certain settings in the Denon config I should try first?

So then the setup is xBox (component video)--> 1913 (HDMI) ---> LG? Is there any issue with the xBox connected to the TV for that length of time? Try unplugging the 1913 for a few minutes.

Check the power settings, or ECO mode, or Sleep settings on the TV. I was playing around with my settings and inadvertently enabled something and the same thing happened to me....it was the tv - not the Denon.

Hi, I'm hoping someone can assist. I'm unable to get video output from my Blu-ray thru my Denon 2313 / TV (all via HDMI in that order), BUT audio does come through. Error i get on TV is 'Mode not supported'. I had a 4 year old Samsung Blu-ray that I replaced that went through the same inputs / cables that actually worked, also, when I run the HDMI from the Blu-ray direct to the TV (instead of the Denon) I do get both Video and Audio.

TV - samsung LA46A650 series
Blu-Ray - Panasonic DMP-BDT220
HDMI Generic High Speed cables (aka 1.4a) - at least they were advertised as such
Denon 2313 - Input Assign - Blu-Ray 'HDMI', and the remaining video options are generally default (e.g. Video Mode = Auto, Video Conversion = Off) and more importantly same as when I had my Samsung Blu-ray connected.

I've played around with the both the Denon and BR settings quite a bit and I'm not certain if the BR player is at fault, however it does play fine direct to TV so I'm really at a loss.

At the moment I have a workaround with the BR running direct to TV via HDMI and an optical cable back to the Denon for sound, but I'm determined to have the BR run through the AVR.

Your problem is similar to what I had on my setup. Here's what I did to get it working right.

1. Temporarily connect a known working source to the HDMI input the BluRay will be using, this is so you can get into the setup screen.
2. Push setup, select video, and change the video output resolution to 1080p (default is auto)
3. Get out of that menu.

Then I would unplug the denon, move the BluRay HDMI to that input and test. Should work.

What I figured was going on is that the HDMI handshaking with 'auto' set in output resolution is hinky with some BluRay players.

So I went to bed at 230AM, Turned off my receiver, hopped into bed. 1 Hour later, the receiver turns on, FULL VOLUME to an FM radio station. Woke everyone in the damn neighborhood up. Scared the **** out of me. No idea why this happened. Anyone ever have something similar? Can't be having this issue.
